Hi, Everyone --

What's the best way to drink around World Showcase without getting totally obliterated? I know I've seen things on this before, but haven't been able to find anything.

Moderators -- I wasn't sure which forum this should go in, so please feel free to move if necessary.

Thanks!! :drinking:

Don't rush, take your time and people watch. Hydrate.Oh yeah, drinking around the world doesn't mean drink everything the pavilion offers, have met people that thought it so and they didn't make it far. Rnjoy without being stupid and obnoxious.

Share a drink with a friend. Get a snack with the drink. Also carry a bottle of water with you at all times. When finished with the drink, make ample use of the water.

I was thinking it would still count if we switched off countries - I get something in France, DH gets something in England etc. We always intend on trying it but get too distracted!

I haven't done this as my last two trips were with DD16, however I would love to do this with DH someday! I would maybe break it up and do half the countries one day and the other half another day and also snack in each country.

The other good tip is to avoid starting in Mexico, or you might just end your day there.

This comment cracks me up! Reminds me of our cruises while docked in Cozumel, Mexico we always get back to the ship and onto our balcony in time to watch the "pier runners" stumble back to the ship just before they pull the gangway up! Ahhh, tequila!!

this is a good question. I'm newly 21 and I really don't want to make a fool of myself. I know to pretty much avoid France and Mexico because they have a lot of alcohol in their drinks, but where else should I avoid? and what are some good options for a new drinker who doesn't want to get totally wasted?

Ok... this is completely my problem! I have failed twice at drinking around the world because I started with a frozen margarita in rediculiously hot humid weather. They are just so dang refreshing! My husband and I are going again this year during the food and wine festival again, and I am hoping to try a little something from each country. I liked he sharing a drink idea.

Plus before you start drinking take 4 airborne chewables.

It's best not to attempt this on a hot sunny day...and it's all about the pace. It wouldn't be the true experience with out a stop in France and a margarita of any sort in Mexico. Trying to share drinks with a friend and grabbing small snacks from time to time will certainly help the cause.

As someone who has drank around the world ( and will do so again) here are my pointers!
1) Don't attempt on a Super Hot & Humid day
2) If you cant handle alcohol well don't try it!
3) Drink water!
4) Start in Mexico with a Drink & Food!!
5) If you get something you don't really like, don't feel pressured to finish it
6) Share drinks, Especially In the countries that don't have a lot of options (Norway, Canada, Germany (the grapefruit beer is amazing BTW))
7) EAT a big breakfast and eat snacks every three countries or so
8) Don't Rush, walk through all the shops and sit and relax.

My dad and I did our version of this last summer. Sometimes we alternated and sometimes we would both get a drink. It depended on what was available. We skipped Mexico as we love a couple hours from the border, so tequila is practically in our blood. Here's what we drank (sorry I can't remember beer names):
Mexico-skipped
Norway-Viking coffee, beer
China-tipsy Ducks in love, cantaloopy
Germany-huge beer at Biergarten
Italy-I have no idea how we skipped this one
America-nothing all common
Morocco--sultan coolada
Japan-Sapporo beer, Tokyo sunset
France-ice cream martini
Uk-beer
Canada-somehow missed this one too

This...there are 11 pavilions in world showcase, you don't need a drink in each one. Pick out the ones that interest you, as long as you're enjoying a cocktail throughout you're good to go!

Start early and don't rush yourself. Get a water at every other country.

You can do like some said and get a drink at every other country or skip a country, but I personally don't consider that fully drinking around the world.

My drinking around the world is considered getting one drink from every country. From Mexico through Canada (or reverse), not including the little Africa area as it's not a recognized country in the showcase.

I just attempted it this past week for my 24th bday. I would've finished easily but the park closed. Got busy earlier in the day so didn't get to start until 7pm, 2 hours prior to closing. Made it through 6 countries in that time.

Mexico- house shot
Norway- Carlsberg
China-Tsing Tao beer
Germany- Jagermeister shot
Italy- Italian margarita
Japan- Sake

Only needed about about another hour and I could've finished up the rest. Have to say the Sake was pretty gross lol. Will definitely have to try again sometime

Germany (the grapefruit beer is amazing BTW))

Yes, for anyone drinking around the world, this is a must. Or, for anyone who just wants a different drink, this is a must.

Husband's favorite beverage at Epcot now.

My favorite thing to do at EPCOT!! Here's how the husband and I Drink (Multiple Times) Around the World:

Background: We go to a lot of beer festivals and things of the sort, so we have a lot of experience with sampling drinks all day without acting a fool or feeling too terrible the next day!

1. Start with getting a good "base" - a really nice breakfast or an early lunch. This is one challenge you should not attempt on an empty stomach.
2. I always buy one of those EPCOT Passports for kids, but in each country I write down what drink I had! Then, I go to the KidCot (or whatever they're called) station and get my country stamp. It makes a silly souvenir and is pretty much the only thing I buy on our trips, other than Alex & Ani bracelets.
3. Pick and choose which liquor-based drinks you want to do and target those first. For us, that means we start in Mexico with either Margaritas (the good kind - inside at Cava) or Palomas.
4. We generally go in order, but will skip a couple countries because of Rule No. 3 with plans to return in the evening. France is the only exception to rule No. 3 for me - I will usually have a day-ending Grey Goose Slushie or something while we watch Illuminations.
5. It's important to remember the "rules" for mixing drinks - go liquor, then wine, then beer. ALSO! If you're new to drinking foreign/craft beers - be sure to check the ABV on beers before you order! Most domestics are like 4% ABV, while mexican beers or Blue Moon can get to 6-7% ABV. Just make sure you're not drinking anything too high in alcohol volume early into your challenge.
6. The husband and I start by sharing drinks that are full pours. Once we get a drink, we always sit down to consume the beverage. We people watch, read for a little bit, chat about silly things we see on Twitter, etc. DRINKS CAN ONLY BE CONSUMED WHEN SITTING DOWN!
7. If you're walking or waiting in line for a ride, drink water! Hydration is key! We'll generally drink an entire bottle of water between cocktails.
8. Your best "deals" are package deals - my favorite is the Wine Walk, including Italy, Germany and France. You pay a flat fee up front (I think it was $20 the last time we went?) and they give you a card with a selection of wine in each of the three countries. So, for $20 you get a 2-ounce pour of one red and one white in EACH of the three countries. You have all day to get those pours - plus, the 2-ounce size is perfect for sampling. You'll knock out three countries with only drinking 12 ounces of wine!
9. Plan a nice late lunch or late dinner. Biergarten is great - you can knock off another country by having a couple of low ABV beers while feasting on a carb-filled buffet for a decent price. Personally, I LOVE Chefs de France for dinner. But, I love France.
10. If you're a beer person, plan on your big time-waste drinking to be spent at the Rose & Crown. The bartenders are wonderful and knowledgable if you're trying certain beers for the first time. There's also a seat-yourself section in the back by the water. Husband will usually get some fish and chips and we'll sit by the water and have a couple of beers.
11. Don't be afraid of Guiness!! I know people think dark beer = heavy, high-booze beer, but that's not true! Guiness is one of the lowest ABV AND lowest calorie beers you can drink! For comparison - Guiness' has an ABV of 4%, while Miller Lite checks in at 4.17%!
12. Try drinks you've never had before. Like - Sake, for instance. At worst, if you hate it, you can always tell friends next time "Yeah, I had sake while I was Drinking Around the World and it was gross!" How is that for a humble brag?
13. I believe Africa counts, while my husband does not. Mostly because he won't drink domestic beer and occasionally I don't mind a Bud Light or Mich Ultra. So, Africa deserves extra points in my opinion - for those keeping score. ;)
14. Coconut Water and Emergen-C are also helpful, post challenge.

Enjoy!! It's a fun way to spend an afternoon at EPCOT!

Share drinks, supplement with food and water and do NOT be hesitant to skip some countries.

The grapefruit beer's only about 2.5% ABV so it's not a bad choice.

PACE YOURSELF with soft drinks, and EAT CARBS. The soft drinks will rehydrate you after the alcohol takes the water out of your system, and the carbs will absorb alcohol and help you sober up faster. Frequent bathroom breaks help, too. I know at your age, you're still experimenting with drink tastes. (My closest friend, who works in a liquor store, says people's palates change as they get older.) For me, the stuff that's sweeter or otherwise masked the alcohol taste went down easier. Have a drink with lunch, a drink with dinner, and a drink to enjoy during Illuminations. If you want to try something from every country in one day, you have to be on your game.

Our family friends got married in Disney back in 2012. The first day everyone arrived, they planned to drink around the world. They got us t-shirts that had a map of the World Showcase with drink suggestions for each pavilion.

First off - this was an absolutely blast. Second - we had a wide range of drinkers in our group. From my mom - who doesn't drink, to some people who will drink you out of the park. We started in Mexico. When starting in Mexico, I'd recommend going to the tequila bar inside the pyramid (I've been to Disney a million times and still call it that.) The outside carts are good, but they're full of sugar. They make em' fresh indoors.

We made our way around and took our time. We stopped to ride Maelstrom and explore the pavilions. It was never "chug that drink and let's go!" When we got to Germany, we all grabbed a pretzel and beer. The pretzel helped absorb the beer, or at least we'd like to think it did. By the time we got to Italy, a lot of us were feeling it. We decided to take a break in Italy. We sat down and people watched, joked around and all caught up with one another. After Italy, we pushed on. I pulled back a bit, as my parents wanted to have dinner at Brown Derby and I didn't want to be inebriated. The rest of the group finished - drinking at every country. I actually fell asleep on the boat ride to DHS and "slept" it off. I was fine when I woke up and after getting dinner in me, I was as good as new.

As other posters have said, don't do it in the thick of July when it's hot and humid. It was unseasonably hot this weekend in April - and I got pretty sunburnt. This could lead to trouble.

Also - share drinks. THat's the best way to make it all the way around. You don't have to drink the entire drink in every country.

Last - keep in mind you're in Disney. These threads usually lead to the PC police coming out and giving their opinion. Look - we drank a good amount, we had fun, but we remained respectful. Don't curse, don't be loud and obnoxious. It's a family park regardless of the alcohol policy.

And finally.. Tipsy Duck in Love. Get it. It tastes like a black russian.
