Every trip to WDW my fiance and I spend an evening drinking around the World Showcase. We learned this practice from some friends of ours who used to work there. I guess many of the cast members do it on off days.

She and I have some ground rules in Drinking Around The World:
1) One Drink per land
2) We have to get something native from that land (i.e. french champagne in France, Molson's in Canada, etc.)
3) We are allowed one pass (no drinking) per round.
4) One soft drink is allowed.
5) You must complete no less than 50% of your drink before proceeding to the next country.

MD and I are not big drinkers, but we always have fun doing this. We tell cast members that we are drinking around the world and they always smile and say that they (or people they know) do it too.

For the record, we always act responsibly and do not let any foolishness interefere with a familie's good time, but we have a lot of fun. Anyone else out there tried this?

There's lots of people that do this... last time we were there, DH did a beer in every country (and actually decided that the 3 beers that you can get inside Le Cellier, (Blanche de Chamblay, Maudette and Tres Pistoles) were the best beers in the 'World' (with the Tres Pistoles being his favorite)) He was extremely disappointed in Germany, since they only thing they had on tap was Becks.

This trip, he's planning on doing the beers again, and I'm going to give the 'mixed drinks' around the world a try (since I don't drink beer) - it should be interesting.

We have done a modified version of this with two kids in tow!!! Usually a Margarita for me and a Corona for DH in Mexico. Then a hard lemonade for me and a beer for my husband in England. I can vouch for those. The margaritas are good and theyre frozen which I dont usually go for but in the 90 degree heat!!!

We have been doing this for years. . .in fact, when our kids were little, that was our "evening out" while they went to Neverland! Snacks & drinks around the world topped off with Illuminations. A good time and a short evening--much more fun than PI (when kids were little it took so long to get there and back, we felt we had no time to enjoy it) and better than a dinner out--we could do that anytime/anywhere even when the kids were little--how often can you stroll the World? :D

Now our kids are older and we don't have the child care option. Our "drinking around the world" in one sitting is over. Now we just opt for one here and there throughout the vacation period. On the up side, we get to go to PI as a family and enjoy the two places we do like together--Comedy Club and Adventurer's Club. ;)

Someday my husband and I will make it to WDW alone for food & wine festival. . .there's plenty of time for that once the kids are grown.

I applaud you. We may have started too late in the evening so we could not spread them out enough to still stay 'responsible......'

But we had to alternate. He would have a beer in Canada. I would have a drink in the UK, etc. Your rules about being able to 'pass' and having to finish 50% of the drink are good. I think that next time we may not have to alternate if we just took more time and 'spread them out.'

I'm impressed.

BTW.......VERY, VERY FUN!!! One of our best memories from the last trip!!

We did 'Beers Around the World' in April 2002.:p

But I have to admit that it took us 2 evenings to complete the tour. And we did share some of the more 'exotic' beers instead of getting one each. What fun! We are planning our second 'Beers Around the World' and are going to do a marathon this time - noon til closing!

A few years back, my SIL & I did a modified version one evening called the "Monorail Pub Crawl".

All the monorail hotels have lounges offering appetizers, so we snacked/drank our way around the 3 hotels (was especially fun during the holiday season to see the various hotel decorations).

Denise < --- doesn't think she'd make it around the entire WS ;)

LOL denise. I definitely can't make it around World Showcase and I hear that some people go around twice! Now I just settle for one "whatever" when the mood strikes. I do love the little bar at the Polynesian though. :)

Oh yes! We have done it! I took my pass at Morocco... there was nothing native to that land that appealed to me. I had no problem finding something I liked in any of the other lands, though.

My DH and I fondly call this practice.....Liquors Around the Lake. :D :D :D

During DISCON, this was an "un-official" mini-meet which was called Drinks Around the World or DATW for short. :D :D :D

I can't WAIT to try this! I think these are excellent guidelines! And I love the Monorail Pub Crawl! I just have to remember to restrain myself to one type of alcohol or another...oh, what am I saying? I know it will be BEER!!!!:D

Sounds fun! Does anyone know what the toffee flavored "beverage" they have in Germany is called? It is delicious and I can't remember the name. TIA!

I love the hard ciders in England, you can get one at the little stand on the sidewalk just to the left of the Rose & Crown. Cheers mates! ;)

DW & I have had the luxury of doing this twice a year.... We either start clock or counter wise .... At this moment, I'm making lil' tags to sew on our clothes. They read " we've been DATW , would you be so kind to point us to international gateway so we can wobble to the BWV" ( I've borrowed this from a DATW veteran) .... LOL....

I just posted this under "Where to knock a few back?" but thought I would share it here as well:

If you are really adventerous you can 'drink around the world' at EPCOT. My friends and I did this last summer - well we attempted to at least. We got stuck in Germany drinking German wine and Beck's. But, one of my friends was very adventerous and would walk to the other countries and bring back the beer and wine from there just to say he did 'drink around the world'. Needless to say we all had about the same amount of drinks, so we could all say we 'drank around the world'. We started in Mexico around 3:45 and finished in Canada for last call and Illuminations. Managed to see the Tapestry of Dreams parade too.

I am not a beer drinker but rather a wine drinker so for me getting stuck in Germany and drinking the German wine was like being in heaven. In fact I made a nice wine glass pyramid, which I was rather proud of.
I did cap off the night with a Welsh Dragon from the UK, definately the best drink on earth.

Peach Schnappes, Midori, Green Creme de Menthe, orange juice and pineapple juice. Mmmmmmm, I can taste it right now!!!
Everywhere I get it made now they look at me and ask if it looks right and then I get asked lots of questions about it. It is an English drink so not many people here know about it.

(Wow, I'm very jealous, only 200 miles from WDW.)

:earsgirl:

Thanks! I'm going in 2 weeks with an English friend & I will make a Welsh Dragon a priority. Hey, wait a minute, why didn't she tell me about this? She's got a lot of 'splainin' to do! ;)

I'm going to D'land Paris and London in a couple of weeks so I will try them over there too.
Have fun and have one for me at the Rose and Crown!
