think i have made a huge mistake !!

earlier on in the year i had lots of advice on whether or not my oh needed a visa for numerous minor offences commited as a minor

i paid for his criminal records back and the only thing left on it after the age of 16 was a drink driving offence

US Customs Answer:
Thank you for contacting Customs and Border Protection's Customer Info Center. In reference to your question, CBP's information on visitors with drunk driving offenses are rather consistent. As stated on our web site at https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/736, "The U.S. does not deny entry to persons with a "Driving Under the Influence" (DUI) conviction. " It further states that multiple convictions for this and/or other misdemeanors could deem a traveler inadmissible into the US. Since, as you pointed out, a drunk driving offense is not a crime of moral turpitude, it should not be included in your ESTA application.

i had this reply from customs which i interpreted as that he can travel under esta as he can honestly answer no to all the questions asked!!

BUT I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT THE CAR HIRE !! HONESTLY IM SO DAFT I AMAZE MYSELF THE OFFENCE WAS IN 2005 ARE WE GOING TO ENCOUNTER ANY PROBLEMS :worried:

you will be fine, my ex had a conviction and we were still able to hire the car

rental agencies won't have access to your oh's driving record unless the DUI was on US soil.

I'm not even sure they can check if the license you produce is genuine and/or has not been suspended (they don't even do that all the time for US licenses through DMV, so I doubt they do on foreign licenses)

renting a car won't be a problem.

ok great , i hadnt even gave it a thought , as he no longer has to declare it to insurance here etc as it was over 5 year but it stays on the counter part for 11 year

i have emailed alamo direct but had no reply , dollar have said its no problem with them as long as its a valid licence

They never ask for the paper part of the licence, we rental probably about 10 times a year in the US and have never been asked.
