Drink Cheaters???

I'm not justifying it but getting refills with an old mug I can see people doing but filling a popcorn container and pop bottles full of pop is pretty bold. What's next a 5 gallon gas can full of Coke Zero? :confused3

To me if you take something without paying for it, it's theft. I wouldn't do it, I wouldn't let my kids do it. But, when I'm at Disney I'm there to vacation and have a good time. I'm not interested in being the "pop police" unless Disney is offering me a job and compensation. Disney owns the pop and it's their job/responsibility to make sure it isn't being stolen. Not my problem and if they aren't that worried about it, neither am I.

Who knows, maybe "holiday pricing" at the restaurants was instituted to recoup the pop loss. :rotfl:

Stealing is wrong. Doesn't matter if the item you steal is fairly priced, overpriced or underpriced. It's stealing and it's wrong.

It bothers me when I see people steal things. Whether they're stealing from me or someone else, it bothers me. It bothers me when I pay for something and someone else somehow thinks they're exempt.

I haven't noticed the drink thieves at Disney World, but if I did it would bother me.

Defending the drink thieves because Disney is expensive? Come on....

Well, we are not cheaters, but someone who didn't know us might percieve us that way. Many times the kids will get a mug at MGM or the water park and prefer to fill that up rather than the resort mug--we purchased the resort mug as well, but the kids like the other mug better. We ask and every time we are told no problem let the kids use the mug they want, if anyone questions it you could just show them your reciept. I keep the reciept in my wallet but have never been asked for it. Now that all the mugs look exactly alike, I prefer that the kids like one that is different so they don't get mixed up.
The popcorn bucket is a little over the top, but whatever, I know when I'm on vacation my kids get hairbrained ideas that I don't necessarily approve of or that would even mortify me, but in the big picture while I would tell DD or DS not to do that again I'm not going to get all worked up on vacation and let it ruin their vacation or mine by making a spectacle.

Of course on the other hand I don't see it as a grey area, if your taking soda in a container and didn't pay for a refillable mug than it is stealing and it is wrong and I don't know how people justify the notion with well it is WDW or whatever and I already paid so very much--well this costs $$ too and you're not entitled to it for free just because.

This is a case of right vs. wrong. I was not physically affected, nor did it cause us to not have a great time.

I Love the comments that it is okay to just take it because no one is watching you or because things are so expensive that I can "GET EVEN" by helping myself.

When planning for Disney I made sure that I "included all of the incidentals" in my budget so that I would not have to steal.

Amazing concept... people should give it a try!

Fountain soda roughly costs 3 cents per cup...

THREE CENTS!!!

I understand the original poster, he followed the rules and gets annoyed when he sees others not doing it...he feels he was screwed out of 30+ dollars...no one likes that feeling.

Well, people will always take advantage. Some people know that its awkward for others to correct them, thus they do what they want.

I guess you could tell a manager about what you say, unless you want to say something yourself, if that will make you feel better...

Regardless, they best advice is to probably do the right thing and pay for the soda and enjoy YOUR vacation...

The other people probably have a horrible life and condone stealing...let them have their moments, because its one of the few they get...

I didnt see anything wrong with the slave analogy...its just an analogy...I think the women complaining is looking to win her argument and let that blind her views, since she couldnt come up with something to make her argument...

Theorizing here...
You really don't know who's cheating/stealing. I haven't bought mugs yet (try to do water as much as possible) but have thought about it. If a family - especially with little kids or disabled members - has several mugs and they're far from the drink station, I don't see a problem with filling up an empty 2-liter and taking it back to the room instead of having everyone hike back and forth (or one poor designated person to carry all those mugs - I can guarantee it'd be me! :rotfl: ). You'd still be paying for that soda even if you don't stick the actual mug under the fountain. I know it's intended that you use the mugs, but it may not be practical, kwim?

That said...yeah, I'd be willing to bet a lot of those people didn't pay at all. :headache:

I don't even bother with those overpriced cups. I buy my own soda and keep it in the fridge. It is much cheaper and is readily available. I am never lucky enough (or willing to spend enough) to get a room close to the dining area. It would take me ten to fifteen minutes to walk over there, fill my cup and return to my room. Not worth the effort in my opinion. If you don't have the DDP and eat at your resorts dinig area every day, it may be worth the investment though.

I've seen lots of people filling up old mugs, bottles, etc.. I ignore them, after all, what am I going to do about it. I'm surprised Disney doesn't bust them for stealing though. I've never seen anyone get stopped for it ever.

I would never have the nerve to walk in, take soda which I know I haven't paid for, and just walk on out. I just don't see what the big deal is, if you want unlimited soda, buy yourself a mug.

I wouldn't if I were you dear, the acid and bile created by all the complaining would just ruin the desert and the vacation ::yes::

I guess there are just some people like the lady that you saw who go through life with excess bile.

I guess you are like me in that vacations are to relax, enjoy and bask in the love of your family

Sorry for the confussion. I was being a bit sarcastic. I would never do this. In fact I'm not a desert person anyway. Now appetizers are a different story. :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Does anyone know since its "ok" to steal soda from the fountains, does Disney mind if we lift a few candy bars from the gift shop on the way out?

Way back when the refillable cups were first offered, they were a forever type thing. I remember purchasing them at the Caribbean Resort and being told this. That is probably why you do see many of the older mugs still in use. We have refillable cups from many of the resorts. We really haven't used the older ones, but I can see why some still do and why they aren't stopped.

OK, everyone has their own morality and some feel as I do- it's stealing to take the soda without having bought the mug- and some justify taking free soda by saying the cost is trivial and they have already paid a lot for their vacation. This will continue for as long as Disney tolerates it. However, some day, in an effort to cut yet another corner and save another dollar, Disney will decide the cost of soda taken by thievery is not worth it and will discontinue the free-soda-with-a-mug deal. (don't say it cannot happen- who ever thought the airlines would charge to check a suitcase?!) Those of us who follow the rules and buy the mug will be punished because of those who feel it's OK to ignore the rules and steal soda. So, yes, it is my business, although I wouldn't let it get in the way of enjoying my vacation. Unfortunately there are people who consider only themselves and not the effects their actions could have on others, and they too vacation at WDW.

Is there a sign by these fountains at the resorts that say "For refillable mugs only"? I'm just curious because I wonder if some of these people don't know that they are intended for the refillable mugs. I know I didn't even know these existed before I joined the Dis. So its possible that some of these people who seem to be stealing simply are not aware of the policy and think that the fountain soda is there for all resort guests.

seriously

people should just worry about what they do and not everyone else
you know you are doing the right thing so whatever

dont sweat the small stuff its a great book check it out

Really! This freaking subject is as old as the darn refillable mugs some people keep bringing back to WDW!
Do we see them on every trip? Absolutely. Whatever.

I thought there was a sign that sign it was for this trip only now. My understanding is that Disney get sthe syrup from coke so the fountain drinks dont really cost them much and this is why they dont "enforce" this policy.

Well, If you're at the Grand Floridian at the end of August you just might seem me filling up 4 bottles from the drink machine. The mugs will be in the room, I am damn well not lugging 4 mugs through Disney all day, and I can't carry 4 full mugs by myself back to the pool.

I will pay what i have to pay, but you won't know that. You will call it stealing and post all over the internet about me and my bottles.

You'll be wrong, but that won't matter, you will sleep better at night knowing you're better than me.

Whatever. Go on your vacation and enjoy it. Leave other people alone unless it directly affects you. My mom taught us to butt out and not be tattle-tales. Some people missed that lesson.

Let's talk about swim diapers instead.
