Drink Cheaters???

Why should it bother you if someone else is cheating... lets be honest here. Whether they use a coke bottle or a Disney mug they are still filling up and your still going to have to wait in line behind them... Unless the only reason your miffed about it is because you realize you are being cheated by being charged 10 bucks for a 10 cent mug that will be used to consume what maybe 50 cents worth of Coke if you stay there for a week.

I would suggest that its healthier not to worry about what other people are doing when it doesn't impact you... In fact maybe if you would supporting Disney's over priced drinks by buying a mug and using a coke bottle too... and if everyone else joined in as a form of silent protest… well maybe Disney would realize that their prices are just too darned high and they would lower the price to a more reasonable rate.

I mean, if you think about it when prices go up beyond the perceived value of an item, the theft of that item goes up… So maybe Disney is the real criminal here, charging so much that people can’t afford it and are forced to simply take it (don’t bother telling he about just drinking water… I’ve had the misfortune of drinking Orlando water and it wasn’t drinkable)….

Or then again... you could just live your life and enjoy it... they will live their life and enjoy it too... if we lived in the 19th century and there was a law that you were supposed to turn in escaped slaves... would you do it? If the answer is yes then I guess I can understand your tirade on cola bandits.

Did you seriously just compare stealing soft drinks to the fugitive slave laws?:scared1:

Well, If you're at the Grand Floridian at the end of August you just might seem me filling up 4 bottles from the drink machine. The mugs will be in the room, I am damn well not lugging 4 mugs through Disney all day, and I can't carry 4 full mugs by myself back to the pool.

I will pay what i have to pay, but you won't know that. You will call it stealing and post all over the internet about me and my bottles.

You'll be wrong, but that won't matter, you will sleep better at night knowing you're better than me.

Whatever. Go on your vacation and enjoy it. Leave other people alone unless it directly affects you. My mom taught us to butt out and not be tattle-tales. Some people missed that lesson.

Let's talk about swim diapers instead.

:worship: AMEN!

ya lets talk about those "baby ruths" floating in the pool! :scared1:

Wow this is crazy. I understand that this is all morals and all but jeez why get so upset about it. I think that the post about slaves should be erased and that person should be a bit ashamed. Disney isn't cheap at all it's not like the rest is a deal but the drinks are so expensive. Stay at home if you can't aford pop and you want it. I bet you go out and buy mickey bars and eat out at the parks.

I know I see this happen every time I go to Disney. I always buy a new mug for myself every trip, since I don't think some people doing it makes it okay. I think everyone should follow the rules. :thumbsup2

You know, people complain about this all the time. I guess no one here ever attends a professional sports event. Bottle of water at the Braves game? $4. Same bottle at Disney World? $2. I won't even go into the soft drink prices and Coke is right here in Atlanta! And there is no refillable mug for regular season ticket holders. Disney World is a bargain.

I hate those arena events, everything is so overpriced. I agree, Disney is a bargain compared to that stuff, $12 for cotton candy.

Personally I could care less what others do especially regarding poorly mixed fountain drinks. For those of you who do think that folks are cheating Disney, you are only partially correct. Disney gets the coke stuff free for advertising and merchandising rights. That is why there are no other options but coke products available at the parks, etc. So for those who have made it their personal mission to thwart these folks let it go as they are not stealing from your beloved Disney but from the greedy coke folks! I learned this in my contract law class, we spent an entire semester dissecting M. Eisners contract with Disney and his 1/4 billion dollar bailout to go away. FWIW, the parks lose money and don't even come close to breaking even, the real Disney money is in TV/Film production.

It doesn't matter if the 7 dwarfs spew the stuff into those soda machines, it's still stealing.

They way I figure it - I'M not gonna steal, I'm not gonna let my kids steal.... Whatever the rest of the folks do is their business! They will have to answer for it some day!

"then to have everyone around us using pop bottles, old cups, old mugs from anywhere but Disney and all sizes bubba kegs and more."

What the heck is a "bubba keg"?

Is there a sign by these fountains at the resorts that say "For refillable mugs only"? I'm just curious because I wonder if some of these people don't know that they are intended for the refillable mugs. I know I didn't even know these existed before I joined the Dis. So its possible that some of these people who seem to be stealing simply are not aware of the policy and think that the fountain soda is there for all resort guests.
No, but common sense would lead one to believe that it isn't free for the taking either! McDonald's has the same type setup..people have figured out they are supposed to pay for their beverage at McDonald's....why would it be an issue at WDW?

Do what you are comfortable doing. But remember..perception is reality. There are going to be those who see you filling up bottles and are going to assume you are taking something that you are not entitled to..pure and simple. Do I care? No, not really. Does it impact me when guests take soda without paying for it? In the long run, probably. But, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

It doesn't matter if the 7 dwarfs spew the stuff into those soda machines, it's still stealing.
Yep. If Disney wants us to get our soda free, then they will stop selling refill mugs and just hand out the cups, free of charge. It's really simple. When you go to a food court, you can see what the charge for a soda is. You tell the cashier you want a particular size soda, they charge you and hand you the appropriate size cup.

Again, when Disney decides it is being negatively impacted by beverage station abusers, they will change the system. Until then, knock yourselves out. This is a never-ending debate. I have a mug from the old days, when they were sold as good forever..but here's the thing..they were good, forever, only at that particular resort. And, it was back in '99. Do I bring it back to POR when I go? No. Do I bring back my POP mugs when I return to POP? No. Way too much trouble to cart them down. I buy a new one for each of us, each trip. Then, they take the place of some food items that we brought with us and then ate..making room in the luggage for our refll. mugs.

I think we all pay for those who take more then they're entitled to.

When dd was 2.5 we picked out a hand full of gifts at the big store at MK's mainstreet. We had ok'd DD's purchase of a princess purse (dd2.5 had it on her lap) and a tinkerbell bracelet (which DD promptly placed in the purse on her lap) and we had a handful of other items. We left the store not paying for the purse or the bracelet. We realized our oversight a few minutes later and promptly returned and paid for these items. But it made me realize that there are gaps in their security, and we are all probably paying for this. The CM was wonderful and made it sound like it was no big problem. I was horribly embarrassed and kept apologizing.

Just like soda's, merchandise, etc....it is all factored in to the price we pay to visit.

yep a laws a law... just like a rules a rule... if you can honestly say that you would follow any law no matter how immoral you actually find it, then be my guest complain about a drink theft... if you actually have enough brain cells functioning to realize that some laws are simply assinine and you wont follow them out of principal then just ignore the drink thefts... Not because slavery is the same thing as stealing a coke... but because once you say you would draw the line at a particular law and not follow it you have to accept that others have the same right to draw a similar line... and if they want to draw it at the coke mugs so be it... the bottom line is they are no more right or wrong than the person that draws the line at slavery.

if you don't see the real difference between a rule about taking soda you didn't pay for, and a law about slavery, then you have some serious problems.

WOW...my guess is that you are a 'cola bandit'. Even if you aren't, your comments regarding escaped slaves was so far out of line- I'm 1/2 tempted to complain to a moderator and have it removed. :(

As for DW being the criminal? Give me a break! SO by your argument, tickets being 75 bucks to get in for a 1 day base ticket???? Why not just try to find a way in without paying?? If the idea that something is too expensive gives you the belief that it's ok to steal? Well...I feel very sorry for you and your children. (If you have any). Does this apply to designer jeans? Just steal em...how bout lipstick? Is that a blelief that you would instill in your daughter?

Just TAKE whatever you want, provided it meets YOUR criteria of expensive.

First off I think the only person that should complain to a moderator is myself and I should be complaining about you... YOU have insinuated that I am a theif.

Sorry to break the news to you but I'm not.

If you would put a little more effort in your reading and comprehension then you would find I never said I endorsed or encouraged anyone to steal cokes... I simply put forth two simple thoughts.... 1. mind your own business and enjoy Disney instead of fretting over what someone else does that doesn't impact you directly. and 2. (this one seems to have been a little hard for you to understand) if you can understand someone breaking a rule because they find that following the rules is immoral... then simply accept that others find the prices charged by Disney to be gouging and are making the same decision that a person ignoring slavery laws made. Is that clear enough for ya?

so disney charging a certain amount for drinks makes that rule immoral? that's hilarious...

if you don't see the real difference between a rule about taking soda you didn't pay for, and a law about slavery, then you have some serious problems.

There is no difference... during the time of slavery that was a law... now stealing a coke is also against the law... a law is a law. If you had actually read the original comment I was rather clear in stating that in the 1800's when slavery was legal you must also accept that during that time frame a good many people saw nothing wrong with slavery... And it isn't a rule against taking soda.. its called theft and its a law they are breaking.

I see a lot of people cheat at fast food places with drinks too by filling up water cups with pop at the self serve fountain! I don't get it. I understand being cheap but people need to just pay for what they get because that is just outright scamming.
