Dressing up at dinner? why I am concerned.(changed title)

I pack the same size suitcase whether I am going on a 7 day or a 4 day cruise....I always bring the same suitcase but for a 4 day will just pack less in it.

I don't understand the arguement about having to bring more suitcases if you have to pack a jacket and dress pants.

Whenever we cruise each person in our family (there are 5 of us) brings one suitcase and is responsible for it. They may also bring a backpack or small bag for a carry on.

On the 7 day we pack long gowns for the females and suits for the guys....we never had a problem packing these in one suitcase each. We bring a lot of clothes as well....the teen girls have at least 3 outfits per day packed and don't even get me started on the shoe issue. See link....

The four day is more laid back than the seven day but it really is not that big a deal with packing dress clothes.

You ought to try packing for a 10 day cruise for three people (including one teen girl), two of whom scuba dive! That cruise had three formal nights, and a couple that were semi-formal. We took a humongous 30" suitcase that collapses to fit under a bed, a large 30" scuba gear bag, a large garment bag, and two smaller suitcases. In addition, we each had good size carry-ons. A laptop, more scuba stuff, a backpack with wine, and personal stuff (meds, documents, stuff for the flight) went into those. We rented full size cars, used the carts at the airport, tipped like crazy for help with our luggage whenever it was available. It's doable, believe me.

We will be doing the same thing this year in December. Only worse, because we are staying for three days at WDW afterwards!

I totally understand your concern. This is one reason I didn't want to fly for our 7 night cruise this year (but DH won out, and we are flying).

I am taking 1 pair of black pants with 2 tops, 1 reversible dress with a jacket (for formal nights), and a 'tropical' dress. That is it for me. I have told my DDs they each get 2 dresses, and their 'tropical' dress. DH will take a pair of dress slacks, 1 tie, and about 3 shirts, and his 'tropical' shirt. We will each have one pair of shoes to wear to dinner. All of these will go in 1 suit case.

It helps that now my DDs are 10 (will turn 11 on the cruise), and they can pull a suitcase too. The first year we went on the cruise, they were 5 and it was hard enough to keep track of them, let alone the luggage!

The first seven night I went on, I took clothes for each night! THAT was terrible trying to 'repack' (we did drive that time, so we filled up the van with our luggage then). The less the better, is my motto this time, and I don't care if anyone does notice we are wearing and rewearing the same dress clothes. We won't see any of these people ever again.

Go have fun, and pack the fewest clothes you need (and remember, you can do laundry onboard).
