I know I've seen this before but now I can't find it. I'm sorry.... :confused:

If my husband brings a nice silk shirt & wears it with a sport coat & nice dress pants, will that be allowed, with no tie?

If he should bring a dress shirt with tie, will he need a jacket?

Just trying to avoid over packing...so any advice will be welcomed.

TIA!

Ties and jackets are no longer required for dinner, but simply "suggested". On our last visit in March, there were very few men wearing ties at dinner so the silk shirt and sportcoat would be just fine. Or he can wear a dress shirt with no tie or sportcoat.

It seems like the only dress code that's enforced is the no shorts policy.

he'll be fine.

It's:
dress shirt & jacket, or;
dress shirt & tie, or;
suit

dress pants in all cases.

HTH

{at least this has been my experience}

At least on our recent cruise, the majority of men had on a dress shirt, but neither a tie nor a sportcoat was worn with it and the definition of a dress shirt was quite liberal. I think they'll let you in as long as you're not in shorts and a tshirt.

A knit "polo" type shirt will not be allowed at dinner unless it has a jacket over it. A woven cloth shirt without jacket or tie was what many guys were wearing. No shorts of any description.

Brunch is more relaxed than dinner. We DID see men at dinner being asked to return to their cabin for something that conformed to the dress code.

In the main restaurants, there is "suggested attire" with no enforcement. At Palo, it is an enforced dress code.

One or the other will work. Whichever one he prefers. My DH chose to wear a nice shirt & sport coat with linen slacks without a tie over the dress shirt with a tie option. I wore a cocktail dress. I was much dressier than he was. The sport coat is more to pack than a tie. :goodvibes

Dh has a Tux is that what you mean?

Tux is considered formal wear and dressier than needed for Palo. Although I think the guys look great in them:thumbsup2

Unless it is formal night, most men in Palo won't be wearing a tux.

dress shirt/dress pants to me mean what my husband wears to the office or a special occasion :confused3

If you go to PaulFrederick.com and click on "dress shirt" it will show you several examples. It's basically a button down shirt (aka "Oxford cloth shirt"), appropriate for an office environment.

When we've gone to Palo, my husband has worn a dress shirt with a tie. The first time we went, he also wore a sport coat, but since there were men who weren't wearing sport coats, he didn't pack one for subsequent cruises. A sport coat takes a lot of space in your suitcase, especially given that you only wear it for a couple hours.

thank you for that, needed to work out what a sports coat was too :rotfl:that website helpped thanks, So suit trousers with a jacket that doesnt match and normal work shirt is my understanding. of the required clothes for paolos.

So for other evening meals eg animators palete how strict are they? Short sleeve shorts or Dress shirts? Jeans or suit trousers?

Sorry very confused by the whole idea, dont want to him to stick out he would be mortified

I agree, that's the intent, but I was surprised to see someone wearing exactly that on the 6/27 cruise. My DH wore dress shirt, dress pants, sport coat and tie. He took a look around the dining room and promptly removed his tie. ;)

We went on our first cruise in June on the Wonder. My hubby and I dined at Palo for brunch. I was shocked to see guys in jeans. I thought they had to wear slacks. But then I was shocked at dinner to see people wearing shorts and t-shirts to the dining room (not Palo).

My DH wore a shirt and tie to Palo and he was dressed up enough...more so than a few other customers. They had nice shirts and no tie. I like that he dressed up a bit...he wears scrubs to work everyday!

Mishetta:

I think I'll book a room on your cruise (will I have time?) just to see how terrific your husband will look.

Have fun. :boat:

Look, instead of listening to the wrong information, go to www.disneycruise.com and look under the FAQ. This is what it says about dressing for Palo:

Dress for dinner at Palo on all cruises:

Men: dress shirt or jacket, no shorts
Women: dress or pantsuit

There is no requirement for a tie.

Hiya

Just reading through your post and the answers. We love Disney Cruise Line and enjoy the fact that there is a dress code for different nights, which makes it a bit more special because people make an effort. We are just about to take our 6th cruise, so are quite comfortable with what you need to wear.

Men

Palo/semi formal night - my husband takes his suit, dress shirt and tie.
Formal night - tux, bow tie, cumerbund, etc
Cruise casual - pair of chino type trousers and short sleeved casual shirt
Pirate night - some people do the fancy dress, but we wear cruise casual

Women

Palo - a nice cocktail dress - any length
Semi-formal night - again cocktail dress, but I usually do below the knee
Formal night - full length dress, doesn't need to be a fancy ball gown
Cruise casual - any skirt/top and nice summer trousers/top (no restrictions on what type of top it is e.g. vest tops allowed) or summer dress

I hope this helps.

That's what DH wore on our last cruise. Nice polo shirt, sports coat over it, slacks. BUT, about halfway through our appetizers he ended up removing the jacket b/c he was getting too hot. Maybe the guy you saw in just the knit shirt had already stowed his jacket ;)

When I see something off dress code, I try to remember that sometimes people have a wardrobe malfunction or lost luggage. I may be mistaken, but I thought I'd read that the Palo people are understanding in that instance and offer some leeway.
