Dressing for Palo's

I have posted this in reply to a similar question. I'm a single parent and my son is 12. What we did for for formal night for him was to get a pair of nicer perma press white shorts (not the long or baggy ones!) I had him wear a shirt and tie with a navy blazer and matching navy kneesocks. It was 'dressy" but not overly so and the formal experience was wonderful for him. I had the "little black dress" and we had as I said a great time. I told him to just think of his outfit as a "throwback" to the old days of cruising and how boys dressed.

My husband wore a suit and tie and didn't feel out of place on the two occasions we went to Palo's. I also made my father wear a suit and tie as well, even though he hates to wear one.:goodvibes
I don't mean to offend anyone (although I'm sure someone will be:rolleyes1) but why is it we are so bothered about getting dressed up? It seems like we are always looking for a way to bend the rules or stretch them as far as we can to get away with as much as we can. Men especially, try to get out of dressing up.:confused3
My husband wears jeans and polo shirts every day of the week and t-shirts on weekends. I am by no means a girly-girl and live in jeans and a t-shirt year round. When we go on vacation and I plan a fancy meal, like Palo's, I enjoy dressing up. I think if the restaurant requires fancier clothes, then suck it up and bring the clothes!:snooty: (JMHO)

No one is trying to get out of anything. The rules for Palo are very clear:

Dress for dinner at Palo on all cruises:

Men: dress shirt or jacket, no shorts
Women: dress or pantsuit

If you want to dress up, then that is fine. The OP question was stated as trying to save room in packing and not wanting to take more than necessary. By someone just wearing a dress shirt (w/o tie) they are not "bending' or "streching" any rule at all.

I guess the question would then be since they don't require suits and ties, why do some people push that as what is required?

amen!

Like I said, I don't want to offend and this is just my opinion, but I feel that Palo is set up to be a dressier and more sophisticated restaurant. If you plan on going to Palo, then make room for the appropriate clothes. If you don't want to pack too much, then don't plan on Palo! :confused3
It is obvious that it is an Adults only, upper scale, surcharged restaurant, requiring reservations. It automatically insinuates a fancier dress code. Just bring the button down shirt, and sport coat (tie optional) and be done with it.
I certainly was not saying that suit and tie are required...just that my husband and father wore them and were not overly dressed. It just seems like every time this question is posted the underlying question is "how dressed down can my husband be (yes, it's usually the men) and still go to Palo.
I certainly apologize to the OP if I came off too harsh. Obviously, this is my sore spot. :guilty:

We took a 3-night cruise 2 years ago. Don't remember there being a true formal night. Is there on the 4-night. And, do most men wear a complete suit and tie.

Sorry for repeats, don't remember what we did and I saw :(

Well, we just returned from our 5 night cruise & we went to Palo's (my husband wore a button down shirt & tie ~ no jacket) & we fit in. The table next to us, the men all wore suits. The table behind us, the man wore a tropical shirt with way too many buttons unbuttoned & had messy long hair (probably in his late 40's, early 50's), but his dinner date was dressed in a nice black cocktail dress with spaghetti straps & her bold tattoo on her shoulder all exposed. I won't say anymore except that I'm glad I didn't try to stuff my husband's jacket in our luggage. We were 4 traveling with 1 large suitcase & 2 small ones. ;)
