Talking about regular restaurants - not Palo - on 7 night Wonder. I'm trying to talk him into dressing up a little on formal night, but all other nights I know he'll prefer to just remain in shorts. How uncomfortable are we likely to feel? ( well he doesnt care - its how uncomfortable will I feel ).

Also - cruise is 3/4 to San Juan and St Maarten. What are air temps on board likely to be? (For sitting out on verandah for example).

Thanks for the help!!!

Nothing to worry about. There were people in gowns and tuxes, shorts and t-shirts, and anything in between. You are on vacation and why worry what others think?

Our last Caribbean cruise was early March. It was gray and chilly coming out of Florida, but sunny and warm (low 80s) once we got into the Caribbean. Definitely good verandah weather. I did need a sweater in some of the indoor venues due to excessive AC.

Here's my usual attire: On regular nights, I'll wear khaki shorts, a "nice" t-shirt (nothing with a graphic on it, solid colors or stripes, that kind of thing) or Polo, and either sneakers or flip flops. On semi-formal nights, I'll wear jeans, a polo, and nice shoes (no sneakers). On formal nights, it's usually the same as semi-formal, except I tuck in the polo :)

In all instances, I'm usually not the least dressed up person in the MDR. For the first few cruises, I dressed up a bit more for semi formal (khaki pants and oxford) and formal (dress pants, oxford with tie), but I've relaxed quite a bit after seeing how others are dressed.

The dining rooms can be a little chilly. A lot of people ask why the dining rooms are so chilly. Your server and asst server works very hard during dinner. If it wasn’t on the cool side they will be sweating in your food and drinks. No one wants that. So keep that in mind when wearing shorts at dinner.

Sounds like it depends more on how you feel he should dress to accompany you. Our family always wears pants and collared shirts for the men and gals pants, skirts or nice shorts. Just how we were brought up and would feel very uncomfortable being in a restaurant with the guys in shorts.

my husband wears shorts every night on all nights of our cruise except for formal night and Palo night, not a problem at all

DH and DS10 wear shorts every night including formal night (which we, obviously, don't participate in). We are going to Remy on our next cruise, so I'll pack one appropriate outfit for that evening, otherwise, it's shorts every night. You will not feel out of place in the MDR's. Plenty of people are wearing shorts in the evenings.

I'm a traditionalist. I wear actual pants and a sport coat to dinner, and I wish others did too because nobody needs to see your legs at dinner. I think Cabanas is a great place to go in shorts. Or Flo's. But I also understand those who do wear shorts to dinner. With what it costs to cruise DCL, it's hard to say that you shouldn't get to be comfortable at dinner. I get that. Don't like it, but I get it.

On our last DCL cruise, Southern Caribbean Jan 2016, I'd estimate 5% of the men were wearing shorts on formal night. Most people were dressed up, men in (usually) suits or sports coats. A handful wore tuxes. In the comedy show that night, the comedian teased the one guy not dressed up about not getting the memo.

How about a compromise with DH: you won't complain about what he wears the rest of the week if he doesn't complain about wearing long pants and a polo or dress shirt on formal night. Bonus points if he wears a sports coat.

First cruise was almost 8 years ago on the Magic for seven nights. I make sure I had dress clothes for my 3 sons and hubby. It was nice to see everybody looking so nice at dinner. Since then we’ve done shorter cruises and I’m notice not many people dress up.

On the first night a lot of people wear shorts because you may be still waiting for your luggage. But I still hope on a seven night cruise that on semi formal and informal nights that men will not be wearing shorts to dinner and women will dress up a little. But is everybody’s personal choice. However if you do choose to wear shorts, hopefully they’re a little dressy and you’re wearing a collared shirt. Happy cruising.

We were on a DCL Magic cruise to Iceland and there were people wearing pajama pants on formal night . . . They were still seated in the MDR and had their meals served. If your DH is comfortable wearing shorts to dinner, it's not a problem. There is no DCL dress code rule prohibiting people from wearing shorts or t-shirts at dinner in the MDR's. DCL does not care.

Our first few cruises we dressed up for dinner , it was dress code. I remember when they started letting jeans in the dining rooms. I thought that seems wrong and a whole table of older people did and really stuck out. Used to run back to the room and change right after dinner then . Now we can just go where ever. Kids to the clubs etc.

Now we are on coming up on cruise 13 and we wear shorts or capris . Nicer tops. Kids come as they are dressed for the day unless it is formal night. I want some nice pictures too.

Now that most people have to pay more for luggage we try to go with as less as possible. Dress shoes alone take up a lot of room, my son's is a size 13.

So answer to your question he will not feel out of place. Myself and daughter like to dress better than the boys.

I do miss seeing all the people dressed up for dinner. Seemed really classy.
