Dressing a like

Does your family dress alike @ WDW? If so how often?
I have oneday planned where the boys are wearing Donald Duck shirts and dd and I are wearing tink shirts.

Then another day we will all be wearing Lilo & Stitch clothes.

Am I over doing it or asking too much of my family?
Will we look stupid or fit in?

Well, I always think it is really cool when I see a family in the park all dressed alike. Then again...this is coming from someone who does it as well. In recent years though, DD and DS got a little too old for it, so we try to just stick to a theme (all wear Stitch shirts or something like that) when we are touring the parks. But at dinners we do dress alike-even now and the kids are pretty cool with the compromise.

I must say that dressing alike makes for some AWESOME pictures and we certainly do get plenty of attention from a lot of the CM's (although that is not the reason we do it...we just like the have fun).

My husband has no problem matching my son...they have "Big Guy/Little Guy" and "Thing 1 and Thing 2" t-shirts. I just found them matching Mickey shirts in the Disney Store, and had originally bought myself a Minnie one, but returned it and got the same t-shirt as them so we'll have a matching set for all of us to wear 1 day.
Come to find out that apparently it's okay for them to match, but when I throw myself in the mix, then hubby thinks it's stupid and said he's going to hide his Mickey shirt before we pack. I think he was only half-kidding. I told him I'll that's just 3 more shirts we'll have to buy when we get there.

I ordered 6 sets of matching tie dyed shirts from www.tiedyeusa.com. I also ordered a couple matching disney icon sets. We got such great feedback from other families and cast members, that I did laundry during our 11 days at WDW so we could wear tie dye everyday. Too many other families had the icon shirts.

Matching shirts made it so easy to find everyone and our character pictures turned out fantastic!

The shirts ended up being less than $4 a piece because I ordered so many. I will do this every time we go!

My kids loved being the "blue team", the "green team", "team twisty" etc.

eta: the spider "lime" shirts we're the easiest to see. We were there in November, so the red shirts looked great with the Christmas decorations.

My family is doing exactly what littleteapot's family did. My DD's soccer team ordered shirts from tiedyeusa last year, and I'm buying shirts from them today for our June trip. I plan to make Disney-themed iron-ons to put on the shirts too to make them stand out even more.

My DD7 tends to "drift" -- badly -- from the rest of the family whenever we're in large crowds. Worse, she won't answer when we call her! Tiedye shirts make her far more visible than anything else we could dress her in.

At Six Flags, we got to be the family that closed out the parade once precisely because we had matching shirts. I'm hoping for similar pixie dust at WDW.

BTW, does anyone have any hints for finding/making pictures for iron-on transfers? I want to keep it simple. I was thinking of doing character silouettes. Mickey is easy , but I'd LOVE to have Stitch and Crush ones.

Any idea where to look?

I've taken a Disney shirt that DS had and scanned the image, then made iron on's so the rest of us could have matching shirts. I've also scanned images from Disney books, magazines and scrapbooks and done the same thing.

We love matching, especially if we're with my Dparents. (We would like to do it with my Dsis's family, but her hubby thinks it's stupid...) If your gang is game, go for it. It's a lot of fun and WDW is about the only place you can dress alike and people don't think you've escaped from somewhere! Enjoy!!

We're dressing alike most days of our first family trip. We've made a set of the tie-dye Mickey head shirts (DH LOVEs those), are making iron on ones for 2 other days for all 4 of us, then the kids will match and DH & I will one day (iron ons), then the guys and the girls one day (bought Mickey and Tink at Disney store on sale). We've had so much fun designing our shirts!

Last May we all dressed in the same shirts every park day. It was our first trip with DS and that made it more special for us. (It had just been DH and me prior to DS's birth) My SIL went with us and she wore matching shirts too.

I think it makes awesome family photos!

I designed all my shirt images and ironed on the transfers.

A day we didn't match (and we didn't plan the shades of blue - that just happened)

I think that between the shirts that I bought & the shirts that I am going to make (tye die/iron ons) we could be matching for a whole month!! But I will only ask for a few days of matching if they really don't want to match everyday. Look @ creative Disers---the best ideas for iron-ons!

We dress alike each day of our 8-9 day trips!!

No, you won't look stupid.
We (DH, DD12, DS9, & I) have about 12 matching sets of Disney t-shirts.
We also have matching long-sleeved tees & sweatshirts.

We wear a set each day & also wear black shorts to go with them.
It looks great in the pictures!!

(It also makes packing a breeze!! I just pack all of the matching shirt sets, along with about 4 pairs of black shorts for each of us!)

When the boys were little, I did dress them alike. And, as much as possible, they also matched their daddy. And, I tried to pick really bright/neon colors. Made it easier to find each other in a crowd and looked great with all three's coloring.
Since DD was born, I've really wanted to do it with her, but haven't really found anything matching that I'd want to put us both in.
With boys age 10 & 12, I'm lucky to get us all in something Disney, I'm sure not going to get them to match. In fact, in our recent DLR trip, I had bought those American mickey shirts and sweatshirts when they were on that great clearance last year and they both accidentally put them on (different colors) the same day. One quickly turned around and changed! Haaaaa!
Our plan is to go at Christmas, and if that happens, we'll be going with my mom and step-dad and I do plan to get us family t-shirts in celebration of the Holidays and going together. (But, I can always get the boys to dress a bit more alike at Christmas!)

My daughters are 5 and 7 and my mother makes them matching disney skirts/shorts or dresses for each of our days at WDW. I will usually wear a similar color. ON one of our days we will all be wearing matching floral skirts with tinkerbell. Our skirts vary in style as our tastes are different, but the fabric is the same. It is so much easier when you all match. Everyone is easier to find. One year my oldest wandered off and I panicked. When security guard asked what she was wearing, i didn't even have to think, I just picked up my little one and said that she was wearign the same thing.

I love when families match. It's Disney, be crazy, be childlike. There is no other place on earth at Disney.

I love to see family with matching shirts! I have 4 matching shirts for my family this trip, and I'm having a fit trying to find 2 more so we can match every day!
I think it make the photos look so much better!

We just recently started having the matching shirts - last year I found an AWESOME deal at disneyoutlet.com, they had the icon shirts for .99! So, I purchased them for the trip my mother and I took with the kids last June. The pictures turned out great, it was super easy to find my kids, and it was easy to figure out what to wear that day!

For our October trip last year, with the whole family, I made long sleeved black tye-dye, short sleeve blue tye-dye, and then purchased the Halloween Disney shirts from disneyshopping.com for us to wear to MNSSHP. The pictures were great, but what was better was my DH and my dad telling me how much they appreciated me planning their clothes, LOL!

We're going in June for ten days, and we'll have matching shirts for each day . . . because I found the Designer Thread! We made the rainbow tye-dye Mickey Heads shirts, then I did orange and yellow tye-dye, plus we have a few iron on transfer t-shirts . . . and then I made Disney Icon shirts through Disney shopping . . . and I also want to purchase "Year of a Million Dreams" t-shirts when we are there.

OMG, re-reading my post I sound like I have a t-shirt matching illness!

In any event, I pack for our family, so people are going to wear what I pack them, right?

Makes it easy to get up and go in the morning, makes it easy to remember what parks we were at what day when we look at the pictures at home ("oh, we wore the orange/yellow when we went to AK!"), makes it REAL easy to ask people if they've seen members of our party that are lost ("have you seen a man wearing this shirt?")!

Have fun with the matchy-matchy . . . where else can you do it except Disney?!?

We dressed the 3 boys alike on our last day this March, and I'll do it again for our next trip. It looks really good in pictures, and it's easier to keep up with them when they're all wearing the same thing. We're looking for iron-on ideas too-anyone know any great websites for that?

I have taken the men's Disney camp shirts and modified them with a few quick zips on the sewing machine to fit the kids and the ladies in our group. I am far from being a sewing pro too. It sure beat making my own from scratch (which I just don't have the time or aptitude for) or trying to find the same shirt in all our sizes.

I mentioned the idea to my DDs and they chose to dress alike. We didn't buy anything special. They chose things from their wardrobes that they already had which matched or coordinated. (Sometimes it was the same shirt, sometimes same design different colors). It did make for good photos-- see below!
