Was anybody else under-whelmed? I felt like there was a lot of boring black (Rachel Wiesz, although she looked beautiful, and Jennifer Aniston-isn't that the same dress she always wears?) Or ridiculous dresses i.e. Naomi Watts.
I loved Nicole Kidman again, and Reese Witherspoon because her dress was different. I also liked Michelle Williams' dress, although it got panned by eonline this morning.
I liked Selma Hayek's dress but she fiddled with her hair too much when she was presenting.
Any other thoughts?

Reese's dress was my favorite. Felicity looked very nice too I thought.

loved Keira Knightly's dress very pretty burgandy

I was very surprised how demure everyone was. Especially Jennifer Lopez. Usually there's someone showing off just a little too much skin.

Yes, very boring dresses for the most part. I agree about Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon both looking very beautiful.

And was it just me, or was the color choice for many dresses just hideous? A lot of what I consider to be "off" or muted colors. I guess I like brighter and clearer shades than what many actresses chose this time. I'm not a big fan of dark mustardy yellow or pea green.

I thought there were too many pale, flesh colored dresses. It really washed the women out. Reese Witherspoon looked fantastic as always. I loved her hair too.

Jennifer Aniston's dress was ok, but I thought the necklace was all wrong. It hung too low or something. It just didn't work for me.

I thought Charlize Theron looked awful. She is such a beautiful woman, but the dress was terrible and her hair was horrible! Too matronly and she had roots showing.

Salma Hayak looked great too, loved the color.

I agree but I didn't like the bottom. I'm' not a big fan of the mermaid look.

Our local paper described Naomi Watts dress as looking like it was made out of "shredded ace bandages." :rotfl2:

Well, it did!

I loved them....very classy.
As they mentioned, we would see the more demure side at this function.
It is the one that they dress for family and not to shock.

It seemed very understated this year. I liked it.

When will women learn that they should not wear dresses that are the same color as their skin? Pale white women with blonde hair should not wear light beige dresses. Is that so hard to learn?

The funny thing is, it seemed like the darker skinned women - like J-Lo - who COULD have looked radiant in beige/gold, were wearing the vivid colors.

And Helena Bonham-Carter...who knew that someone that beautiful could look so bad?

I liked Jessica Alba's dress. The color of Keira Knightly's dress was perfect for her, but I hated the bottom. It seemed like a lot of women had that fishtail look this year.

Charlize Theron's dress was awful. That giant bow on her shoulder was shudder inducing!

The only dress I really disliked was Naomi Watts. It looked like she was a mummy, and just pulled her head through the bandages. But she still looked better in it than I ever would :)

Salma Hayek would look good in anything, but I really liked Uma Thurmans dress and I usually cant stand the way she looks...just one question though, why doesnt anyone get their hair fixed? most of them look like they pulled it into a ponytail and slept on it. Jessica Alba looked great..cute dress nice hair.

I agree Salma Hyak would look good in anything. She is gorgeous. I was not impressed last night. Everyone was trying to hard to play it safe they all missed the mark. Oh JLo was in green and that caught my eye. Other than that, not too exciting.

Loved Rees´s and Nicole Kidman´s dresses, but definately didn´t like Charlize Therons look.

Ditto! In addition, I thought Charlize Therons dress looked like it didn't fit...gapping on her.

In terms of the "how bad can they get?" competition, 2005 was a yawn. Here are some of my faves from the "what were they thinking?" Oscar archives:

Geena Davis, 1992:

Diane Keaton, 2004:

Uma Thurman, also from 2004 (a bumper crop year for bad taste):

Helena Bonham Carter, 1987:
