Dress Steaming

ok, so i've been throwing around the idea of contacting Carolyn Allen's to come steam my dress for me but for some reason keep putting it off. i guess i'm just not sure i'll need it. i am wondering this:

Have any of you steamed your own dress with the hotel iron/steamer or one you've brought with from home? Do you think it would be too over ambitious to do this myself?

I JUST contacted them last week for my 1/16 wedding. I decided there's no way I'm going to tackle this myself. I'm really scared I may ruin the dress and I feel a company like that is professional and deals with different wedding dress fabrics all the time and know how to handle it. Plus, it's one less thing I have to deal with. I was also going to have the hotel's cleaning service do it, but then I felt they rarely probably deal with the type of fabric on a wedding dress and it would be a bad idea.

I contacted Carolyn Allen's through email first and we agreed on a price and then I filled out the form online and put in the price we agreed upon.

Definitely call Carolyn Allen's!! They are amazing and great to work with. I was tempted to do it myself, but then I would be taking the chance of messing up. I was glad to have the time in the morning to spend getting ready and relaxing. You definitely don't need the stress.

Also think about how much you're paying for pictures - you'll go nuts if you see you missed something when you get them back!!

I was very up in the air about this too, but I was scared I would ruin the material of my dress if I did it on my own. Carolyn Allen's is a great choice if you are unsure. They don't have a cancellation policy and you do not need to prepay (if you're ultimately going to pay cash), so I booked them with the intention of possibly canceling when we arrived. I would suggest booking just in case.

My dress ended up not needing to be steamed, so I just called the night before to cancel. They were very polite, and I was not charged anything to either hold the reservation or cancel it.

Although I am not getting married in Disney, I am still having a destination wedding and have no choice, but to do it myself. I bought a Rowenta portable steamer and read up on it. The one thing they do suggest is to not directly steaming the dress, but to cover with a towel and steam because the water drops can stain certain fabrics. I'm hoping it won't be too bad if I allow it to hang for a few days once we get there, but I won't know until then.

I called Caroline Allen and they were amazing and I would recommend to anyone.

To be honest I hadn’t even though of doing it myself and I though our hotel would have been able to help. But when we arrived and found out the hotel couldn’t steam my dress, we only had the weekend to find an alternative and Stephanie was great. After 20 hrs on a plane my dress really needed a professional steam, they came to our room at the last minute on a Sunday and did an amazing job. As for the cost I expected it to be a lot more, so I was very happy with that too.

Call Carolyn Allen - they were amazing! My wedding was the day of the infamous monorail crash. We were staying on the concierge level of the main building of the GF and the ONLY elevator to our floor had broken! They literally came through the service entrance. I had my dress completely steamed before it was shipped, and it definitely took a beating in the process. Depending upon the material, I wouldn't risk trying to steam on your own. That was my original plan, but my fabric wrinkled so easily that I didn't want to take the risk. Not only did CA's do a fabulous job, but they were able to clean my dress and ship it in time for my home reception the next week. They are so nice and completely willing to work with you regarding pick up times and locations. They are well worth the money!

I actually bought a steamer (WHICH I LOVE) and steamed my own dress. And now I love the fact that I have a steamer to use everywhere I go! My dress was synthetic taffeta, I probably wouldnt have done it if it was silk, satin or another material. I also "tested it out" on the piece of material they cut off of the bottom when they altered my dress. I had a really good experience with it- HTH!

I used Carolyn Allen not only to steam my dress, but the dresses of all of my bridesmaids who had flown in from around the country. The price was reasonable and the gal was in and out quickly. It was well worth it!

I noticed Wish on a Star bought a portable steamer and it worked great on her gown. Can anyone tell me a proven brand to purchase for wedding gown and veil. Daughter is getting married in weeks at WDW and being it is a destination wedding in need of a good proven steamer. Thanks to all for your help!!
