I'm getting married next october in disney and i really want to start dress shopping but i think it may be too early.

When did everyone here get their dress??????

I'm getting married Jan. 20, 2009. I bought mine in July 2007! If you have somewhere to store it, it doesn't matter when you get it. But, then you have to keep your:cool2: "wedding dress blinders" :cool2: on, so that you don't see something else in all that time. If you know what you want, go get it, b/c mine was discontinued less than a month after I bought it.

I don't think it is too early. This way you don't feel rushed to find the "one". Good Luck!

We're getting married this December ('08) and I bought mine in June of '07. 18 months before the wedding! Its never too early...and it has given me plenty of time to put together the whole 'look'. But as mentioned above..you HAVE to put your 'blinders' on to other dresses. I've seen several since then that I've though 'WOW..I want to wear that'..but lucky for me I have a very sweet/sad story to go along with my dress, so its simply not an option to wear anything different! (my grandmother purchased my dress for me and died 1 week later)

I got my dress in sept of 06...it came in March of 07. The bridal salon kept it there for me until this March..that is when I took it to my seamstress to get my alterations.

I bought it early because I fell in love with it and you never know when the designer will discontinue a dress so if you see one you love now then get it.

I agree with what everyone else has said and agree that it is ok to start looking! I am getting married September 2009 and I i've already had my dress for a few months. I got it somewhere around 18 months out. It was important for me to buy my dress at a shop that will store it till my wedding because I have absoutely no place to store a wedding dress. Anyway I do often see dresses that I think are beautiful and prettier than mine but then all I have to do is look at the pictures of my dress to remind me that I do LOVE it and nothing will be as perfect as it for me.

WOW that is a gorgeous BM gown..I always love the simple dresses for BM!! What color do you want to get?

i LOVE that BM dress!! Like Lynn said..its basic..and beautiful!

I don't think it's too early to start looking for your dress. I ordered mine about a year out. Whenever you find a dress that feels right is the right time to order it. Some bridal shops will tell you it's too early or you waited too long but you'll know when you find the right dress and it's never too early to start. Good luck on your hunt!

BTW- those bm dresses are great!

I got my dress 19 months out. My wedding is Dec 2009 and I bought my in May 2008. I absolutley love my dress  and I have still not found anything that I love more than my dress.

That BM dress is so pretty, very simple and classic! Love it!

Getting the dress makes everything easier. Less STRESS, KWIM?
My DD had 12 weeks to get a wedding together... so finding the PERFECT dress was a HUGE stress factor for her. It took us 3 weeks to find it... THEN getting the dress shop to have it ready in time was another STRESS factor... as they want a minimum of 6 weeks to "work" on it. We only needed it steamed and the train thing done up.. I forget what that is called. Anyway, they kept asking when is your wedding? As they wanted to give us a pick up date of THAT morning... I told them a week before as we were going to leave a week before to go to Disneyland.

My advice to EVERYONE is tell them your wedding is at least week before the actual date...
that way you can pick it up and INSPECT it before you are forced to accept it the way it is. When we picked up my daughters dress, it had not been fixed!... They had not done the train hook up thing... luckily we had time to wait and picked it up the next day... but there was a bride there picking up her dress and she was very upset as her wedding was the next day and her dress was NOT READY!!!
:scared1:

WOW! I'm not sure I could plan a wedding of that size in such a short period of time. She did an amazing job coordinating everything. I saw some of the pics you posted earlier with the backdrop and all. I'm super impressed. :worship:

I went dress shopping a year before the wedding date, I paid the deposit for my dress and it will be in store by Nov/Dec this year. I will then need to arrange about 3 fittings. So it should be ready to pick up feb/march next year. This will be 2 months before the wedding. My mum will keep it at her house for me until the big day.

Linz xxx :)

I told my bridal salon a month early because I hear this is a common problem. Just remember what date you told them because I can never remember!!

I second that - tell them at least a month early.

I also highly recommend getting the book "Bridal Bargains" by Denise and Alan Fields. You can get it at the library or buy it for less than $10 on Amazon.

It tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about buying a dress, including how not to get scammed and how to not to overpay. I ended up getting a $1,300 wedding dress for $500 thanks to that book! :thumbsup2

You can go shopping anytime really but if you buy one DO NOT go back to any stores or read anymore magazines!!!..lol. I bought a dress in April and put a down payment on it then I went to David's Bridal in June and saw a dress I loveeeeeee and bought it. Now I have 2 dresses. I am not going to get the one from April but still I wish I waited or at least shopped around a bit.

I credit the Disney WPs for everything. They were wonderful. My DD pretty much knew everything she wanted, which was everything and they of course suggested some things, but were never pushy and we of course wanted EVERYthing. They kept trying to minimalize things for us... they kept saying, if you want you can downgrade this and add that... which we didn't want to do. It took a while to get them to realize that we wanted them to suggest things, no matter how rediculiously priced, just to have the options. There were several things that we had to take sight unseen as they did not have pictures of anyone ever using them before... like the castle background and the trumpeters in front of the coach, they didn't even have a tape of what they sounded like. We took those things sight unseen and just had to believe that they would be beautiful. In the end, we did have a beautiful wedding, a total fairytale. I wish there was a way to put the video on here for everyone to see.
