Hi all,

I am not sure, if this is the right place to post, so in case I am wrong, dear mods, please remove me to the correct place - thank you!

As many of you I too, am totally in love with the Orange Bird dress from the Dress Shop. And as others have stated, the eBay prices are ridiculous.... (this would otherwise have been my shot, since there is no other online option and I am not in the WDW area...).
Although I am not a brilliant seamstress, I would suppose I could at least accomplish something like a skirt with a twirl, so I was looking for orange bird fabric - with zero success, by the way...

What I did find, was different dresses on etsy, some even with my orange bird, but also others (cute) with e.g. Elliott the dragon, Mary Poppins. My question is now not only where people find this fabric ( I did not find anything and usually I would say if it's in the Internet, then I will find it...) but also if there could be copyright issues, if one would wear such a dress in the parks?
My first idea concerning how to get such fabric was Spoonflower, but as I understand you are not allowed to use e.g. a picture of Orange Bird to create your own fabric?

Does anybody have any ideas on that? It would be SO cool, to create some personal stuff for my kids and me...

I don't know if I am allowed to post this link to one of the shops I saw on Etsy, so please remove it, if that's not ok, but I thought, one or the other might be equally interested to see the dresses I am talking about.

If I had any idea how to find or create that kid of fabric I would be thrilled to design and sew my own creations to wear in the parks.... Well, a girl can dream, can't she...?

No Copyright issues with wearing. You could potentially run into issues with selling, of course.

I don't know where they get the fabric. I've wondered the same myself!

those dresses are adorable! just messaged seller to see if she makes them in kid sizes too.

Check spoonflower.com for fabric. You can creat, buy, and sell custom fabric. They have TONS.

Some of the dresses are cute. Others look identical to nightgowns my DD wore when she was 6.

Yes, some are awesome! But I really wonder, how or where they get the fabric?

Spoonflower was my first idea as well, but that would definetely be a copyright issue, from what I think. I mean, it would be easy to find a picture of e.g. Orange bird (could even take a photo I took of one of the Disney dresses) and upload that to spoonflower to create my fabric).
But I think, that too falls under the copyright of Disney, doesn't it? I mean, it would be their character, where they own the license for, or am I wrong? ( I would love to be wrong on that one because that would allow to create the sweetest fabric designs....!)

Unless the seller has a license to use the images, they shouldn't be selling items made with Disney character images as it violates copyright law (this goes for the maker and the printer). You will not get in trouble for wearing the items though.

And, please, do not just take a photo of the Orange Bird pattern and have it printed somewhere else. That's not only against copyright but disrespectful to the artist who created it.

If you purchase Disney (or any) licensed fabric, it will have a disclaimer along the selvage stating that it's for personal use only. The license allows the fabric store to sell it, not for the buyer to then sell again as a new item

Yes, I know, I would never violate any copyrights, but that' s why I wonder, where all those cute fabrics come from, that those dresses on Etsy are made of.
I don't think that it is a regular licensed fabric because then you would find it on the Internet - somewhere, at least.

But Spoonflower would not work for the same reason as well - at least, as far as I know. That's why I was asking, if anybody has any idea how to find or create those kind of fabric, without any legal/copyright issues.

Maybe someone has heard of that?

The only way is to find a someone who is licensed with Disney to purchase from, or make it yourself

Any person who is selling products with Disney images is most likely unconcerned with copyright laws, and has either found someone else who in unconcerned/hopes the won't get caught/is international where copyright could get a little tricky to source from
