Formal Nite:

Dress as you would to a wedding (of someone you like).

Semi-Formal: Dress for church (on a special day, like Christmas, etc)

Jim, what a great way to explain the dress code.

We are going on our first cruise in 15 days and I am a casual dress type of person, (Dockers and button down shirts). However, my DW has rented tuxes for my DS and myself. That way we can just bring a sport coat rather than a suits. Besides, we need the room in the suit cases for the snorkeling gear ;) . I think it cost $85 each for the week including 2 shirts.

This is what we wore on formal night. Semi formal night hubby and son wear the same suite with different shirts and tie and I wear a nice pant suit. The girls wear a different dress or nice slacks and dressy blouse.

The girls and I are wearing full length dresses in this pic.

I agree with ChattyKathy! Very nice picture Mmouse37! You guys look very nice and I'm sure those around you were appreciative.

Thanx everyone:grouphug:

Great family photo MJ, good way to describe a dress code JIM.

DH wont have a problem he'll be wearing his kilt, DD & myself has just got a fine excuse to go shopping for 2 new dresses:rotfl:

Thanx again everyone

Thank you all for the nice comments on the family pic. So rare that we all get to be together and to see them all dressed up is a bonus!!! That is one of the reasons we love cruising DCL. They actually enjoy getting dressed up.

BadgerRob....just curious why you would even need a sport coat if your wife rented tuxes. You could wear the tuxes both semi and formal nights and even to Palo and just wear your dockers and polos on the other nights (don't forget to pack your Tropical shirt for Tropical night on the Eastern or Mexicali night on the Western). Basically the whole ship including staff and guests dress Tropical!!!!

Have a great cruise!!!

Hey eyoreaud, guess we'll see you on the cruise. Did you see the thread for our other cruisemates. I'm planning on dressing pretty casual too. Hubby is gonna be in dockers and a shirt most nights, maybe the formal night with a jacket, we'll see.

IMHO-- it is well worth the effort to dress as recommended on formal night. My guys dress like this maybe once a year, but it was fun for all of us to dress up for that evening. It was also so nice to attend the Captain's Reception that evening with most of the people in formal attire. There were so many families getting their picture taken that night, it was a beautiful sight. My take on it is if you are going to spend $$$$ to cruise then spend a little extra $ to dress up. Again IMHO !!!

Great looking family MJ.
But one word for your DH & DS - sunscreen! :sunny: :teeth:

DW and I have pics from our first cruise and even in the pro-pics, we're both beet red. Oh well, live and learn.

DCL needs to use Jim's explanation, it would be so much easier for everyone to understand.

You don't think the men were too underdressed?

To give yet another idea of formal/semi-formal wear--this is from October 2003

This was our Semi-Formal picture:

And this was formal night in Lumiere's:
