Dress code for parks

Here's the dress code part:
Nothing strapless, backless, bare mid-riffs or that would expose any private areas. I really don't care if someone's knee caps are exposed, all I am saying is be decently dressed, not dressed like someone on the street. It shows that you have little to no respect for yourself or others around you, including you spouse, etc.

Basically all I am saying is use COMMON SENSE and good judgment on what is good or not, really be courteous and respectful, what is so hard about that? Just because you are on vacation doesn't mean you have to be rude (and exposing yourself in front of little children is rude, which is the way that some dress, from what wa described in the original post includes this person's wife)

(I edited out parts of the post my comments don't pertain to.)

The issue with this is that it's NOT common sense. It's personal judgment. Yes, I'm sure we can all agree that you shouldn't try to get into WDW topless, or that wearing a completely clear shirt is inappropriate, or just your undies- no way. However, beyond such clear examples as those, it's a matter of personal taste, not common sense. Many, MANY women choose to wear strapless tops (not tube tops, strapless tops), or halter tops with virtually no backs, or tops that show a small amount of midriff to the parks everyday during the summer. A high enough percentage that it's not a small minority of "sense challenged" people- it's that MANY people feel this is appropriate clothing for a hot theme park- and so does Disney management (per CMs who have posted here), as long as the clothes are within reason.

This is such a subjective matter that, even if the OP weren't long gone and DID post a picture of the top, we'd- no doubt- still all have differing opinions on whether the situation was handled appropriately based on the article of clothing.

Sorry for the rambling post, I just don't like it when people are labeled as being "rude" or having "no common sense" just because their standards may be different than someone else's despite still falling within a societal norm.

Not every member of the DIS comes in here everyday.

Except that he did come back ,wrote !! and left.....

I am just saying when you start a thread you are gonna get people that agree, and dissagree, have questions etc etc, I thought that was kinda the point...

This thread has been beat to death  so I won't add any of my own useless comments, but I have laughed out loud at some of the replies. So thanks for that. :thumbsup2 Just wondering if my little angel would be let in the parks in this little number. Too much skin showing? Too much cleavage?

People, As long as your aren't wearing something that is breaking WDW rules (which are posted in different places, by the way. Maybe not on your pillow back at your resort, but if you are concerned about it, you could find it). I say wear what you want as long as it doesn't end up being something that I end up having to explain to my 4 year old son later. That's all I ask. ;) Thanks!

okay, so I lied and did add my own comments. :lmao:

It is common sense though, really, it is a FAMILY park, if you have shorts on that ends up exposing your butt, is that something that should be permitted? No way, if something makes you look like a hooker should it be allowed, no. Should something that is affiliated with gangs be allowed? No. Strapless shouldn't be allowed at a theme park either for the reasons posted above, backless I may be talked into conceding on, but really anything that is "sexually revealing" is what should not be allowed or that has the potential to be so, which is why strapless is out and in my opinion backless should be out as well, the ones that I really have a major problem with are these ones that were all the rage the last couple of years that simply had one little tie in the back that tied like a shoe string, I mean one little slip and there they would be completely exposed. Basically if it would be considered pornography or could easily slip of or fall, it should not be allowed, basically dress like you would like your 13 year old daughter, sister, etc. to dress. Set a good example for others. I think Disney has every right to set a dress code and enforce it. Like I said you may be able to convince me that SOME backless items would be ok, I said to ban them simply because it draws a clear and distinct line, which is what the problem seems to have been in this thread is no one seemed to see a distinct line and had a problem with that, which is understandable.

Could understand if the OP was angry about the rude comment by the CM and YES, that comment was rude.

It most definately was rude, if she had really said it that way. I didn't say I didn't think it was rude, I just wonder if that was what really was said... and I was doubting it because of how out of proportion the OP seemed to be blowing things in the first place.
So now, I think I'm just gonna put a doubtful face on :upsidedow

And chris4disney.. you're daughter is so ADORABLE!!!:rotfl:

This thread really has been beat to death, but that's okay. We can keep talking. haha. I've never ever worried about what I've worn to Disney and I'm just going to say that this will have absolutely not affect on that. I've never had a problem in the past and I don't think that will change. However, if I was offered a free t-shirt, I would most definitely take it. Free Disney stuff- yes please!

This is my point, where is the line? I think my outline defined a pretty definitive line, because what if that baby were older would that outfit be appropriate? No, of course not, why? Because that top could easily slip and become something to explain to your 4 year old son later. I was simply trying to give a definite point that we should draw the line, I can guarantee you that if you dress the way I outlined it will not be too hot to be unbearable, it is how I dress and I expect my wife to dress, we run extremely hot as a rule so I do know from where I speak. It can be 50-60 degrees outside here in California and I will still be wearing shorts and be quite comfortable. So I do know what I am talking about that you would not be too hot if you adhered to some simple rules when visiting a FAMILY park. Now could my line be a bit too extreme, perhaps some would think it is, I picked the line because it is somewhere that EVERYONE can agree it is conservative and acceptable, others will think less clothing than that is acceptable, I understand this, but at least I have a definite line that you can use.

That is the problem. It is how you dress, and you expect YOUR wife to dress. Those are YOUR standards. Not everyone else's. Just because you throw out a "what if" a strapless shirt came, doesn't mean you can just ban it. I can also say, "what if a strap gets caught on a shirt with straps and the shirt comes off".

What if's are not a reason to ban anything. Nor should any one individuals clothing choice dictate that. My wife for the most part dresses pretty conservatively, but when she's in the parks, and it's 98 degrees outside, she could care less if someone thinks she is showing too much skin (as long as it's not totally hanging out there).

Maybe it's just me... but I think I've heard a lot of accounts of people's tube tops flying off. It's more than a what if....
Again, it depends on the design, but apparently this happens often (correct me if I'm wrong?)
I can't imagine wearing a tube-top (seriously, do a couple of little straps to keep the thing on make it -that- much hotter?) at an amusement park where I'm running around all day. Again, it's just impractical....

But again, I could be wrong....

personally , if someone told me to put some clothes on, i would die from embarrassement that i had to be told that i might in some way look inappropriate.
all goes back to how you were raised.
yeah, i am kinda conservative, but i sure as heck dont wanna pay lots of money to go to a park to see naked people. or half or nearly naked people.

leave something to the imagination, dont bare all, is what i am saying.
:rolleyes1

On the same note I saw a shirt that said, "Rehab is for quitters." What kind of message does that send?
I dunno – I think that one’s pretty cool. It really IS positive. Being a quitter isn’t always a bad thing.

I contend you do, in fact, need a Civics class when you begin saying "Last time I checked, WDW was in America!" This implies that you felt the guest's rights as an American citizen were unlawfully infringed by WDW.
Hey, Buzz! Is it Civics, or World History, that would show people that there are several “Americas”, each consisting of multiple countries?

Lastly, I think that the most hilarious part of all of this is the posters who are ranting about the immodesty of tube tops. Have you seen Tinkerbell? What about Pocahontas?
Not applicable. Pocahontas’s dress VERY clearly has a wide strap on one shoulder and is cut pretty much straight across and modestly. And Tinkerbell is so tiny, who could tell if there was a wardrobe malfunction in the first place?

Again, it is private property and they can do what they wish. There are dress codes in public places all over America too. For example you can't run down the street naked in a lot of cities.
Can you in some cities, though? :umbrella:

I get complaining, but why complain to guest services at a different park from the one where the offense occurred?
I get the impression they never made it onto the Friendship Boat outside Epcot, that they were heading to MGM and that the Cast Member at issue was working on the boat or at the dock.

Oh he was, that's why I joked about it in my thread as well. That little part at the end where I said, "Oh yea, and I wanted to show off my hot wife too". I knew he was joking, I just was joking back...lol.

And I'm sorry, but I have yet to see a tube top randomly fly off anywhere, Disney or not. Maybe I'm going to the wrong places....

<adds note to itinerary to start following tube top women around in the parks>

lol ;)

. . . And I'm sorry, but I have yet to see a tube top randomly fly off anywhere, Disney or not. Maybe I'm going to the wrong places . . .

1) Me too, I guess.
2) The places I go, the scenery is
. . . senior men in Speedos
. . . retired women in Spandex capris
. . . black sox with sandals
. . . thighs of cellulite peeking out below french-cut bathing suits
. . . automotive Bondo covering wrinkles
3) I gotta get out more.

;)Why are you looking at their butts? ;)

Sometimes it can't be avoided.

Lol...ya know, I should have figured that was coming!:rotfl: I guess I looked for the same reason as everyone else here--otherwise, no one would have any comments to make on the subject, heh?

Actually, I have a 6yo DD and you know kids will say anything! We were actually behind a group of 3 or 4 teenage girls getting off the bus at AK and litterally they were quite "cheeky." DD pointed and exclaimed "Look Mom! You can see their bottoms!" So not only did I look, but so did everyone else around me!

I had to read through 7 pages to catch back up!
I think this is really getting dumb too. The one person who thinks no midriffs or backs to show??? Whats up with that? I have in the past worn shirts that have shown ALOT of my 34DD cleavage. I have worn tops that weren't much more than a bathing suit ,and never once had anyone say anything. I was skiny back then too! And I looked fine. I didn't look street at all. I was there with my kids! It was clothes that were in style!
I have gained quite a bit of weight since my last child, and I went recnetly and wore t-shirts and shorts. But if I still had the old body, I might have worn some belly showing shirts, and I am 38 Years Old now. I find NOTHING wrong with it or sexual either, really. I could care less what others wear, for the most part.
I guess if I was the OP, I would've taken the shirt, put it on, and then took it off later, if I was hot!

also someone posted that people weren't appropriately dressed at the pool??? How?? Like I said I am larger now than I used to be ,and especially in my legs. No way to hide that in a suit of any kind! Even when I am thin, my legs are still larger than I like and have cellulite! As far as I know, they don't make suits to cover legs. I wish! I think Speedos are nasty, but in some countries that is the norm. So nothing I can do about that. It just would be my choice, but if others feel fine, thats great! I guess at a pool, I think no one should EVER judge, because that is just a place where people feel self concious alot anyways, and they want to have fun and not always can help the way they look in a suit! Even if they buy the one best suited for there size.

also someone posted that people weren't appropriately dressed at the pool??? How??

I didn't make the comment, but IMO if you are litterally hanging out of your top on all sides, bottom included, wearing little more than an eyepatch for a bikini, or have on a suit that is clearly too small...then you are inappropriately dressed. Even at the pool, I think decency should be expected. Regardles of what size you are.
