Well if this doesn't beat all. We entered Epcot, walked through to International Gateway and took the Friendship to MGM. Upon entering, my wife was refused entrance by an old biddy who said she was "Indecent". She wore a top with no shoulder straps. This lady told her to "go put on some clothes, honey". It was her birthday and this person humiliated her and made her cry. I was so fuming, I decided to go back to guest relations at Epcot to vent. I went there and the CM offered to buy us off with a tee shirt. I asked to speak to a supervisor who said there is no dress code. (I have not ever been sent one with any correspondence or annual passholder info.) He said the person was correct in not letting her in since " someone could pull her top down".
They should get rid of the silverware in restaurants. Someone could stab me. I guess I should have to wear a belt on my shorts, someone could pull them down.
I pointed out the three people smoking in line to get into guest relations. I also pointed out two women with strapless tops in the same line. Supervisor said that was beside the point.
I spend a darn lot of money at WDW. I asked for (and got, without comment,) the $1200 plus for our annual passes which I renewed that morning. I also asked for and got a refund for our hotel, since my wife did not want to stay.
I think WDW has made it clear that they'd rather have tourists than locals. I'll go to Universal and Busch Gardens. I don't wish to disturb their or any one else's sensitive, albiet nebulous standards.
They didn't seem to have any problem with the quite obviously cross dressed male who was at guest relations. I no longer feel welcome at WDW.
It is too bad. We have had a lot of fun there, but this beats all.
:confused3

That must have been some top. Or not much of a top, as the case may be.

150 trips and y'all quit over that? OK, up to you. I'd take the tee shirt, those things are expensive.

Sorry, I'm not seeing the connection here. How did they know by the way you were dressed that you were a local?

i think for the lady to say "go put some clothes on, honey" was a little rude (atleast in the way i read it). But really, if it were me, id go back to the hotel and find something with straps. I dont think its worth giving up on disney for a tube top.

I have never heard of a dress code either. And I have seen a ton of tube tops. But I myself would nver wear one for fear of it falling down! LOL! I do think they were rude about the whole ordeal, but I would still go back in the future.

Wow. That is so interesting. I have seen tons of tube tops at WDW. It really is too bad that your wife was humiliated. I totally understand why she was upset. I had no idea tube tops were potentially dangerous. It definitely should have been handled in a different manner if there was a problem.

I would be interested in knowing how this tube top was different from all other tube tops. There are tube tops all over the parks and they don't try to give out tee shirts to everybody in a tube top.

That is so crazy. I would have been so mad!! I wear them too and have never had a problem at any theme park. I didn't know that was part of the dress code, I better bring plenty of halter and tank tops for back up...

Disney does have a dress code as it is a family park, no profanity on the clothing (or what could be concieved as profanity), no bathing suit tops, no shirtless males (or females for that matter). No shorts that show off the cheeks, etc. I am not saying that the way the situation was handled was correct, but you say it was a "strapless top", you did not say what type of top it was, was it a tube top, was it a strapless top that tied in the back, could it have been concieved as a bathing suit top (or was it a bathing suit top?). I agree with the others, it could have been handled differently, but I would not take that and write Disney off forever. I would have just gotten the free shirt they offered and went on with my day. This was not a case of chastising locals and letting the tourists in, as a company they have a right to ask you to change if they feel the clothing is inappropriate. A BIG issue a few years ago was the Frech Connection United Kingdom shirts. Yes it is a clothing company iand there was no intention of being offensive, it is a brand, but the shirts where only the initals so it was fcuk...if you read it quickly it could be mistaken here in the US.

Don't let it ruin your image of Disney.

The CM definitely should not have said what she said. That wasn't exactly professional on her part.

I was so fuming, I decided to go back to guest relations at Epcot to vent.

Why did you go back to Epcot to vent instead of going to Guest Relations at MGM? Just curious. The people at MGM could have talked to the lady immediately and directly.

Good for Disney. Wouldn't be necessary if people would use some common sense---and that is probably too much to ask for.... We can only hope they'll be consistent. But that, too, is probably too much to ask for ...:cool2:

I think it must have been a bathing suit top or something that could have been construed as a bathing suit top. If this CM had a habit of telling people who were appropriately dressed to "put some clothes on" she wouldn't be at the gates for long, would she?

Do you have a picture of what she was wearing? I mean, some of us, who are more endowed than others, may look a bit more inappropriate in a tank top than others.

I do agree that the CM at the gate was rude and I would ask to see a dress code.

Apparently we are not talking about a tank top, but something like a tube top.

yeah, the CM should not have said what they said and quite possibly shouldn't be working the gate, and I would have asked to see her supervisor. I am curious as to why guest services, in a different park, instead of saying "oops, sorry, no way you should have been turned away from the park and we'll get you in right away" offered to give away a tee shirt to cover the top. Makes me think some of the posters might be right about the bathing suit top.

If I am wrong and it was a regular tube top like one third of the gals in the park are wearing, then the gate person just picked these folks out because she didn't like their faces or something (how could she have known they were locals?), and there isn't anything right about that.

I'm sorry but this seems like a rude comment. There is nothing wrong with tube/tank tops as long as they are covering what they are suppose to. If they are going to turn people away in clothink such as this, they need to start turning away many other things.

Also, if they want to start enforcing a dress code, they need to make sure everyone understands what it is before they arrive at the parks.

To the op, what was said to your wife was entirely inappropriate and rude. That cm should have been reprimandeOn the other hand, I wouldn't give up on Disney because of one bad experience.

In 1995 .. I was wearing a t-shirt that said (in very small print) run like **** and (in much bigger print) drink lots of fluids... with a large Nike logo in the middle.

I was asked to turn it inside out or purchase another t-shirt. I did so with only a little grumbling. Till I saw shirts with MUCH dirtier words all over the place. Biker dudes and such... with words I can't post on this board.. Not to mention LARGE tattoos with four letter words.

Inconsistency is a problem.. They simply can't stop everyone. I would suspect they look for the most egregious cases and stop them. And the truth is, they can't find 'em all.

Since we can't see this top or how it looked on that day.. None of us can judge, but I can say it does seem to have been handled poorly.

Seems like there HAS to be more to the story then being told..

I have seen tons of women at the parks clearly not wearing bras and many in revealing tops..

They bend over to look at stuff and there is zero left to the imagination..

Doesn't bother me, but I am casual about that stuff.

I would hazard a guess that this top was pretty revealing to have the woman stopped and told she could not enter

Is walking around in a bathing suit not allowed? Not that I would, But I was just curious. Seems to me I've seen people riding SM and KRR in bathing suit tops (and stashing their tee shirts during the ride). Once I saw a woman try to take off her tee shirt and ride KRR with just her bra on  - CM told her no way.

But seriously , does WDW have any kind of posted rules about any kind of dress in the parks that's not alllowed?

That's a good question. I'm not sure that a park dress code is posted anywhere. Or printed anywhere. At least I can't recall seeing it.
And the first step in enforcing anything like that should be in making it generally known.
As we've seen from the posts in this thread, folks will wear all kinds of things these days and it's rather awkward to be suddenly stopped and be told that what you have on is inappropriate.
