Hi,

I know that there was talk about the Yachtsman going to a business casual dress code. Can anyone confirm this? What about children? They are 15, 13 and 8.

Basically the dress code for the "upscale" non-park restaurants is no swim suits, swim cover-ups, "muscle" shirts or 89¢ flip-flops. A nice Disney T-Shirt, shorts and sandals are perfectly acceptable, especially for kids.

We were there a couple of weeks ago and wore jeans/tshirts/flip flops. I think as long as you look moderately presentable - i.e. no holy shirts, torn clothing, bathing suits, etc...you're in the clear.

Great. Thanks. Everyone in the party has at least a good pair of jeans and sneakers so it sounds like we should be okay.

We ate at Yachtsman last week. We only saw one couple in true "theme park attire" in the entire restaurant. Everyone else was dressed a bit above that. There was a large conference at the Swan/Dolphin and there were lots of groups from that conference in the restaurant. They were primarily in business (Jackets etc. ) attire. We went back to our room and changed from touring clothes before dinner. I wore a nice pair of pants that I would wear to work, and a shirt. DH and DS wore "dress" shorts and sport shirts.
I think for children your ages "nice" shorts and shirts or even jeans with a collared shirt would be okay. JMHO, based on m recent experience.

Just an FYI, Yachtsman has gone from "Resort Casual" (T-Shirts, Jeans, cargo shorts, etc) to a more upscale Business Casual. Certain clothing items will no longer be allowed in the dining room.

For adults, torn or worn jeans, T-shirts, flip flops, etc are no longer proper attire. Shorts are permitted, as long as they are dress shorts. Jeans are permitted as long as they are nice jeans.

For children, please use your best judgement.

Some folks may slip by since the policy takes 90 days to gradually take effect.

Citricos, Narcoossee's, and California Grill are some of the other restaurants that are also going to a full business casual environment.

Was there 2 weeks ago for my DH's birthday. When I made ressies, was told, "new dress code, no shorts, business casual". DH went along with it.
When we got to the restaurant, DH was one of the few in dockers and a half way nice shirt. Saw lots of, to me, inappropriate shorts, jeans etc. Lesson learned, from now on, DH will wear nice shorts and nice shirt. Wish Disney would either enforce or not enforce the 'new rules'.

Shorts are allowed, as long as they are nice dress shorts.

As for what you saw, you have to understand that this change does take time to implement... 90 days to be more precise. Remember, some of these folks booked thier reservations prior to the change, so they were not made aware of the new Business Casual environment.

Once the changeover period has expired (which should be soon), you will see more strictness in holding to the policy.

In August, shortly after the new dress code was announced, there were actually guests commenting on it to the CMs. (Sounded like they were locals and regulars) ie they were commenting on the lack of enforcement, and seemed to want it...

We went in May and most people were dressed nicely except one couple in the middle of the restaurant with their bride and groom mickey ears on and park attire and they stuck out like a sore thumb. As long as you're nicer than that, I think you're family will be okay =)

When these "signature" restaurants start enforcing a code that bans Mickey T's, it'll be a sad day. Absolutely ridiculous to make folks dress "up" who have lots of things going on--including trips to and from THEME PARKS before or after dinner. To make a family suspend a day at the parks, just to go back to the room, then change JUST to eat dinner at YSH--is plain wrong. But after all--can't offend the "locals and regulars", can we??? Let's keep out those slobs in their shorts and brand new Disney T's!! Where do they think they are--Walt Disney World???
But at least shorts are still "allowed"--isn't that nice?? Must have been quite a stretch --being that this is Florida and all.
Tennis shoes still OK?? Or is that next??
I see a new CM position here--dress code enforcement officer. Perhaps a division of Disney security? You get to tell folks they can't eat at your particular restaurant and, if they somehow manage to slip in, you get to go in and throw them out!!

YAY!!!!! It's about flipping time! I wouldn't be surprised if Jiko, Artists Point, and the Flying Fish follow suit within a year.

They have... just couldn't remember them off the top of my head.

I don't know. When I made ARs for next January, the CM was actually less specific about business casual than for our ARs this month. Also when I changed an AR this month, the Business Casual dress code explanation was back to the old "no flip flops, no swimwear."

At the begining of October, I booked reservations at several of the Signature Restaurants for our New Year's trip. The cast member on the phone read me a very lengthy explanation of the dress code. It was all the points mentioned above, but she said that jeans and T-shirts were acceptable in those restaurants. I specifically questioned her on the jeans in CG and she said it was OK to wear them. The unacceptible items were swimwear and cover-ups, beach style flip-flops (not thong sandals), hats, and sleeveless/tank-top style shirts on the men. She was very specific about this, so either they have been given very detailed info in order to answer questions or she was making it up as she went along-who knows. Either is possible!!

As long as jeans and T-Shirts are still allowed we will be okay.

Seems we still have a conflict here and near the end of the "changeover" period.
The first step in enforcing any dress code is to be accurate as to what it really is, and then be certain that all who book ADR's KNOW what it is. And if CM's who take ADR's either make up their own version, or don't fully explain the REAL code, it won't be a good thing for anyone.
So we have jeans and T's acceptable--and jeans and T's not acceptable.

Here is the official policy... coming straight from the horse's mouth:

Men: Dress pants, slacks, dress shorts, or nice jeans are acceptable. Jeans must be in good condition, and not worn or torn. For shirts, short or long sleeved shirt, collar required. Jackets are optional.

Women: Dress, skirt, suit, dress shorts, or jeans are acceptable, along with blouse or sweater. Jeans must be in good condition, and not worn or torn.

Items that are not allowed: Swimwear, cover-ups, tank tops, t-shirts, hats, flip flops, or torn/ratty clothing of any kind.

Hope this clears things up.

So now all that needs to be done is have the CM's who take ADR's actually explain it accurately when folks ask questions. Sounds like that still isn't happening---.
