We have eaten at AP many time. We have always worn the clothing we have worn to the parks that day (shorts, shirts, sneakers) When I called to make our ADR I was told to make note that it was business casual. When I asked what they considered business casual I was told no cut offs. Ummmm is that it. Yes. Ok so shorts and tees are ok. Yes. I am now worried. Anyone? I think I will call again just to make sure. Has anyone eaten there lately and discovered they can't eat there? There are 7 of us. MIL will dress nice, SIL will be in shorts and a Disney Tee. DH, DD, DS and I will be in shorts and Disney Tees and Little DD will be in something Disney related. There will be not cut off but there will be shorts, tees and sneakers.

Ate there three weeks ago (it's DW's and my favorite restaurant) and did see a couple of t-shirts and shorts outfits, though for the most part it was buttoned shirts, slacks, and/or nice shorts. I've read posts here and elsewhere that AP is stiffening standards slightly to make it more of a signature dining experience. I would do just what you say about calling before you go to confirm one more time, then rest at ease if they give you the green light. By the way, the duck confit on the appetizer list is tremendous. :thumbsup2

As sleepydog said, there have been reports of requiring a collared shirt for men at AP lately. The dining CM did you no favors by not giving you the official wording which does say collared shirts. "Dress" shorts are also on the approved list.

Have a great dinner. :sunny:

Here's the "signature" dining business casual dress code as found in the "Handy Guide to all the Magic" handout found in WDW resort rooms:

"Men may wear dress pants, jeans, trousers, or dress shorts, along with short or long sleeve shirts (collar required). Women may wear jeans, skirts, dresses or dress shorts with a blouse or sweater."

As I read that, it seems to eliminate T-shirts. No mention is made whatsover about footwear, so tennis shoes should be OK. As noted, the management at AP has taken a stiff dress code stand lately, although at other signature spots people still seem to be getting in the restaurants all the time in T's, cut-offs ,etc.

So I'd take the advice already given and if you still even want to go to AP, wear some dress shorts and a collared shirt of some sort. And don't feel too bad about the CM who didn't explain (fully) the dress code. Unfortunately, it happens quite a bit.

I just made an ADR for Artist Point and was specifically told shirt with collar for guys, no swimware or cuttoffs.

My brother and I both wore sneakers, but they were nice sneakers, no tears, dirt, shiny, clean, etc. I was also paranoid about not being turned away from AP, so I noted the part about no t-shirts and made my brother wear a nice polo shirt and I wore a dressier short sleeved shirt. We both wore nice jeans and we were fine.

We had a very nice dinner at Artist Point 3 weeks ago and saw the following:

Men were stopped at the podium and offered a collared shirt to cover their tee shirts. One man went back to his room to change. No one was saying a word about footwear or shorts. After sitting down, I saw one man in a tee shirt, but no shirt covering it.

There is a little sign on the podium that explains the dress code. It mentions no tank tops as well. I saw an older teenager girl who on had a tank top that barely covered anything and was more than skin tight. IHMO, this looked much worse than the tee shirts.

We have an ADR for AP in October. I just ordered matching Disney outfits for us from Disney Shopping's semi-annual sale. I ordered matching Mickey & Minnie Hawaiian print button down shirts for DH & DS and sundresses of the same print for DD and me. The guys can wear their shirts with nice khaki shorts. That's what we plan to wear to AP. Hopefully, the kids will still be able to wear their outfits next year, so we can all match on our cruise.

Aristocat: That link is for the Disney Dining Plan. I got on but found no mention of the dress code on any of the 4 pages. I must have missed it--could you print what it has to say? Thanks!!!

Cooldisneycat:
I find it interesting that the collar on shirts (for men) was enforced, but the "sweater or blouse" for the ladies was not. I'm thinking they ought to have a collection of sweaters and blouses at AP for those "non-code" dressed ladies.

I will make sure DH wears a golf shirt on that day to the parks. I will also make sure DD has a nice shirt on. I am sure this will be a very good excuse for DH to buy a new Disney golf shirt with a collar!!!! Thanks for the advice.

I thought the exact same thing when I saw the teenager with most of her belly showing in the skin tight tank top!

I notice Le Bistro de France and Brown Derby are not on that list which conflicts with Uncle's Handy Guide if I recall correctly. It makes complete sense to me that they would be excluded though.

Also are slacks not allowed for women? :rotfl: I am in big trouble then because that is what I almost always wear to signature restaurants. :sunny:
Just kidding though as I'm sure it is just an oversight. ;)

I'm afraid Disney has the dress code thing SO fouled up that nothing makes complete sense!!!
And hit or miss enforcement certainly dosen't help matters any---

thanks for the clarifcations.....I wonder what they consider a blouse? I bought some pretty ribbed t-shirt material shirts that have lace....do you think it has to be button down or a regular shirt material to qualify? I'm probably too worried about it.

It's kind of sad that you even had to think about it--.
My guess is that it will be fine.

There was a trip report recently where a lady wore a skirt with a disney new character shirt (no collar). They were tured away. They were offered a chance to borrow a polo, etc. But this situation really upset them, so they left instead. It sounded like the requirement was no t-shirts for the ladies as well. But as with any dress code, it's up to interpretation.
