If you read the Mary's Bridal thread you know that I have found a dress on line that I really love. I found it late last night and I have been going back to the website to look at it all day. I am really in love with it (but I am realistic that I have to see it on me first).

Here is my issue - my wedding is not until June of 2008 so I wasn't planning on going dress shopping for a few months but this dress throws a kink into things. My concern is that I may be buying too early and what if something else comes up. Mind you that I over think and worry about everything.

What is all of your advice on dress shopping? Should I go and start shopping now or should I wait like I planned? When is the general time frame that you all looked in?

I had a similar thing happen this week with a dress on ebay. I chose not to buy the dress...
I thought for myself that 20 months out was too far. Its recommended that 9 months is more appropriate, time wise. My body might (will) be a different size and shape in 20 months time, storing the dress in my home for that long wouldn't be ideal, and I checked with the designer to confirm that they have no plans to stop production of my choice and will be making it for at least the rest of 2007. That may be a question you want to ask the company... as a bridal shop owner told me on Friday, there will be at least two more collections coming in between now and your wedding, take your time to browse a little!
And don't pay retail!

I bought mine 10 months in advance. By the time I finally got close to do fittings, my body had changed for the better. They took back the dress and reordered the same dress in a smaller size. It depends on whether or not you are the type of person that likes to check off a list and then move on to the next thing. If you are not sure and my have buyers remorse go ahead and wait a bit and see what you can find. Possibly closer to your date if you find nothing that you like you can go back and order it online somewhere unless you are a size they would have to special order from.

I used to work in a bridal salon, so maybe I can be some help. The average delivery time for a gown is 4-6 months, depending on the designer. I'm not that familiar with the designer you like, but I would guess it will be about the same. You then want to allow one to two months for alterations just to make sure everything is absolutely perfect. So I generally advise a good 10 months or so in advance, just to be safe. So order around August, or at least September. Your body may change some from now until your wedding (most brides lose weight whether they're trying to or not!), but any good salon has onsight alterations available to take in the bust, waist, etc. You could definately get away with ordering now though and you'll be just fine. It's not too early to order at all for a June 2008 wedding. Trust me, I've had girls order way earlier! Afterall, if you love it, you love it, so go for it! I know there's that feeling that there might be an even better dress out there if you keep looking, but if you really love it, you're going to be thrilled with it in the end. I hope this has been helpful!

Thank you for all of your insite. I have decided to go try on dresses this weekend. I am not committed to buying nor am I planning on it actually just looking. If I do feel inclined to by then I will go with my gut. I am excited - I will let you know how it went!

Go Look! Mine is in May 2008 and I went tonight and Saturday. I'm rushing a bit because my mom is having knee replacement surgery and she will be out of commission for a bit. I'll look on my own while she is laid up, but I'm going to actually buy my dress in May. They said one year in advance is good at the salon today.

Go for it!!!:goodvibes
