So I'm more than likely going to be getting a dress from David's Bridal online. I will undoubtedly need massive alterations. Whatever I get, I'm probably going to need it taken in and most definitely shortened (I'm a WHOPPING 5 feet tall).

I'm wondering if I should go to David's Bridal for alterations...or find someone else in the area. What is generally less expensive? I obviously want it done well...so cheapness is not the priority. For those that bought DB dresses...did you have your alterations done at the store? Do they do a good job?? What do they usually charge? :confused3

I've heard VERY negative things about Davids Bridal alterations. They have some beautiful dresses and I would definitely recommend taking a peek, in fact - that's where I bought my dress... but, as far as alterations go, I'm going to find a local place...

I had my dress altered at David's and it actually turned out beautifully. I was nervous about it after I dropped it off since there have been so many negative reviews of their alterations, but I guess I was lucky. I had my dress hemmed and added a bustle. There were seven bustle points and with the cost of that and the hemming it was almost $200 for alterations.

The lady who I saw the first time was very abrupt and barely spoke english. She also didn't give me any choices for the bustle. If I had to do it again, I would probably go somewhere else, just because I didn't get a great feeling about my experience with the alterations staff, even though I liked the work they did.

I will be going with Davids for alterations since I bought my dress there. We have met the alterations lady many times and she is wonderful! My sister had to have her dress done there last month and it was fine. I would prefer not to go there because of the cost, however just-in-case something does happen I would rather it all be at Davids where I can at least get a new dress (god forbid!). If someone else messes it up your out of luck. I would rather spend the extra $ as an insurance policy.

It totally depends on your shop. Some are fabulous (mine) and some are crappy... it's hard to know, unfortunately.

I agree... my David's Bridal store is not that great... but I really loved my dress from there. When I took my mom to show her the dress I wanted, the lady said that they didn't have it in my size. Well I go look and find it in like 5 seconds... in my size and everything. Sheesh! I didn't want to take the chance with the alterations department so I got mine done elsewhere. Shortening it and getting it steamed and a bustle and reinforcing the hook and eye... I think it was around $150. Definitely worth it though because I didn't have to worry about it. Your David's Bridal store might be fabulous though! :)
