why do they bother offering a $100 discount when their quote is $100 more than what i can get on the dcl website? is there an advantage to using a ta even if the price is the same as dcl themselves?

Perhaps it's just a matter of timing. I booked my Oct 05 7-day through DU, and saved almost $400 off what Disney had on their website. Also, through doing research with various TA's prior to booking, there was up to an $1000 swing (In my case, AAA quoted me $3800, I was able to go through DU for $2800). This was cruise only, I'm handling transfers and insurance on my own.

Anyway, make several calls and check various websites, you may be able to do better.

i thought i was planning far enough in advace --4/3 land-sea starting may 22 2005-- but apparently not. i will wait for other quotes and see if anyone can do any better. i just chuckled when i saw dreams unlimited gave me a discount that was equal to their 'mark up'.

I doubt the Dreams "marked up" the price. First, you are not very far out date wise, due to the fact that the Magic will be on the west coast, so dates for the Wonder are filling faster. Second, prices will go up the moment the pricing tier is filled. What you saw at the DCL site could have sold out in the time it took DU to get a price. And third, with only 3 posts, it seems odd that you are already trying to slam a company that for the most part gives their clients above and beyond service, rebating a portion of the fare back to the clients, and provides many extras that other TA don't. DCL is very familiar with Dreams as they do book a lot of people. ALl of this is of course only my opinion, however. Having booked 12 cruises in the past, I have yet to find any TA who was as familiar with DCL as Dreams.

It doesn't always work that way. As a matter of fact, I rebooked a 7 night cruise while onboard for Oct. 2005 and got 10% off plus the 200.00 room credit. I contacted DU for a price quote for the same cruise and they were almost $200.00 cheaper AFTER my 10% from DCL AND they offer a $75.00 rebate. So you never know. I also price shopped with All Seasons (who is often the cheapest), AAA, Magical Journies, and TimLarson, Costco . DU was the cheapest by a couple hundred dollars.
With that said, I did my homework for a 2006 cruise and DU was NOT the cheapest, Costco was, so YA NEVER KNOW!

I booked with DCL and dreams unlimited can get the same trip and it will be 200 dollars cheaper to switch my ressie to them. Thats a rebate they are giving to switch the ressie. As for costco, do you have to be a memeber to get a quote. I dont have one in my area and i dont shop over the internet, so I don't want to spend the 45 bucks if costco isn't cheaper.

yes you have to be a member of Costco. They will not give you a quote without your membership number first.

I also get a chuckle when I get a quote from DU. I've called them several times about various cruises. The price I'm quoted is always the same as DCL until they toss in their rebate. Then it's only $75.00 or $100.00 less than DCL.

Costco and Allseas have always given me much lower quotes than DU.

The last two cruises I've checked DU for were April 23, 2005 Wonder, April 2005 Magic and Christmas 2005 Magic. I didn't bother to get a quote from them when the 2006 dates were released.
I called DCL, Allseas, and Costco for the August 19,2006 cruise.

Do you have to be a member of costco to get a quote? What is a number of allseas? I live in Kentucky, does that matter with allseas?

I got my quote from DU for February 2006, and it is About $500 cheaper than DCL and cheaper than what Allseas has posted on their web site.
I have been very happy with them, that is the 4th cruise that I have booked with them.

I just checked my cruise on All Seas' site...it's over $400 more than what I paid through Costco!

Just checked allseas, and it is 12 dollars more than what DU will cost. Do I need to be a member to get a quote from Costco? Dont have one where I live. Nearest one is about ab hour away.

Thanks

they have always asked me for my membership number. I don't know if you can tell them you're not a member yet, but you're thinking of joining so you can use their travel services. maybe they'll give you a quote then. They will definitely save you hundreds below DCL's prices, and in my case they've always been much cheaper than DU and All Seas as well.

You might want to try Dana at Cruise Planners (www.micdan.com) or 1-800 385-8233. Her price has come under Costco's for the last couple of cruises I have inquired about. She was way cheaper than All Seasons.

Actually, you can get at least one quote free from CostCo without a membership. I think many on here have found that the savings will far outweight the $45 membership fee, but I wouldn't pay it either until I got a quote.

i don't know what you read, but i most certainly didn't slam anyone or anything; i merely asked a question. also, what does the number of posts i have on one particular disney forum have to do with travel knowledge?

I did read your statement as a slam. You didn't ask any question, you stated that Dreams "Marked Up" their quote, and then gave a discount.

Since you are such a savvy traveler, you know that most cruise lines, including Disney will give group discounts. Many agencies will reserve a block of rooms and pass the "saving" onto their clients. Maybe you will get lucky and find an agency that has reserved rooms on the date you wish to sail. Or maybe you will find an agency that is willing to part with more of the commission that is paid to them by the cruise lines in order to "discount" your fare. Maybe you will find an agency that sells more Disney Cruises than anyone else and thus is given a price break from DCL directly that they can then pass onto their clients. But to accuse Dreams of "marking up" their price and then discounting it is, in my opinion, a slam.

The amount of poests make a big difference. Most people with so few posts come here seeking advice, but maybe you are in the minority. Maybe youi are smart enough to see something that we should all be aware of, although after reading many posts from Dreams clients, they are usually right in the ballpark of low pricing.

I hope you do find a lower rate, and that you will come back and share it with us here. Disney cruise rates are among the highest in the industry and discounts are not easy to come by.
