We're going in less than two weeks + we have three verandah staterooms booked. We're all repeat DIS cruisers, and I'm wondering if it might be enjoyable to do the sail away from our verandahs. Can anyone give me info about the sailaway "direction" and the "must dos" about the actual party?
NOTE: we also have first seating for dinner, so I'm trying to convince the fam to NOT go topside, but I don't want to point them in the wrong direction.

Not sure I understand the question.....do you want to try and watch the sailaway party from your verandah? Or, are you trying to get away from the sailaway and just chill on your verandah during the sailaway?

If it is the first, no you can't see the sailaway party from your verandah. If it is the second...many people chill on their verandahs instead of being up on deck...not sure what you mean by direction? It is held on Deck 11 on the Dream and is held mid-ship. While watching the sailaway on deck you are facing forward (the same directions as the ship).

Don't understand why you would not want the family to go on Deck to watch...do you think you/they will miss dinner? If everyone is ready to go to dinner you can always leave the sailaway a bit early to make sure you get to dinner but I believe the party is pretty much over by the time first dinner starts.

I find whenever we travel with multiple families/cabins I always tell everyone that this is not a dictatorship and everyone is free to do their own thing (I am usually the one that plans everything). I give them the times of dinner/shows/activities, etc. what we are doing and if they want to attend/join us they do. I feel a vacation is what each gets out of it and I never want people to think they have to follow just what I want to do. Usually they do, but if some wanted to do something else from the group that is fine and encouraged.

I'm not clear on your question either, but I can tell you that it is enjoyable to do sailaway from your verandah. especially on the Dream if you have adjoining rooms and can have the steward opend up the dividers on the verandah.

After muster, send some folks up top to collect the streamers and send some folks for adult beverages if required. A snack or two from roomservice, and you have a party!

When we did this on the Magic we were able to hear the music from the party as we were mid-ship on deck 7. It was lots of fun!

If you are on the starboard side you will sail past the restaurants and Jetty park which is nice. We were portside and still had fun (and were escorted by five dolphins!) Once the ship started moving we cranked up the Caribbean tunes on the ipod.
