Dream headed to Barbados

Yes, it makes sense that the Wonder is dropping off since it just came through the Panama Canal. The question is, what's the Dream doing?
I imagine doing the same thing, earlier when the Fantasy made the rounds of the Western Caribbean to drop off crew members it didn't get to Barbados, so again I'm guessing, that they transferred crew from the Fantasy that was from there and now they're making a run down to drop them off. It's really the only reason to sail that far during the shut down. I'm just glad that DCL is giving crew the opportunity to return home, since virtually most\all international air travel is banned currently from the U.S.

They’ve been shut down since March. Why would the Dream just now be dropping off crew? Makes more sense that they would be picking up since no sail order expires in 6 weeks. If they pick up crew, they would have to be onboard a while and show no symptoms prior to exposing guests to crew. The Dream does in fact have scheduled bookable cruise for July 31st.

The issue could have been that Barbados wan't allowing entry into the country (even by it's own citizens) until just recently hence they had to remain onboard until now. With so many crew members stranded on board ships worldwide due to travel restrictions, to me this makes the most sense, I just can't fathom going all the way to Barbados to "pick up" crew, that seems excessive especially since they still have crew members trying to get home.

Barbados lifted travel on 19 May. 14 day quarantine for non Barbados Residents in a Government Facility. 14 day quarantine for residents in their homes.

Travel requirements and restrictions have been tougher per the CDC on crew of ships, whether cruise ships or more industrial shipping. There are still thousands of crew who have not been able to get home. For quite some time, they were not allowed to use commercial travel and it was hard for very many to get flights home. I know of one person on a different line who ended up sailing around the Atlantic Ocean for over a month before being able to get off the ship and get home. There are definitely still crew stuck on the DCL ships.
The CDC rules have now been amended so that those with no cases of Covid19 can use commercial travel, but please do keep the crew of all the ships in your thoughts. With all the different countries they represent and need to get to and from, it is quite a complex situation.
I hope for their safe passage and for those who need/want to get home to be able to do so (especially if their contract is up!). And then, I will anxiously await the return to safe sailing-- safe for us passengers, but also very safe for the crew.

Some Dream crew contracts ended in April, maybe even earlier. Going to Barbados to fly home.

As of a little bit ago, the Wonder departed St. Georges Grenada and is now heading for Bridgetown Barbados.

A lot of us have thousands $ or tens of thousands $ tied up in upcoming cruises. These crew members that are either being dropped off or picked up have a lot of valuable information in their heads, I'm not sure why none have capitalized on that. Any info, no matter how insignificant they may think it is, would be worth a lot to many of us. Just saying. I do not understand how you can have this many people involved and still maintain such a black hole with little to no leaks when it comes to information.

I just read an interesting article about how Private Islands will help getting cruising back So I'm think porting out of Miami and "Orlando" and doing short cruise maybe the route they go at first

What information? I think THAT is the issue. There is no information. Throw in that many of these people are from a culture where you don't "leak" information, it is very easy to understand why no information is coming out.

Yes but sometimes people unintentionally filter. There is very rarely "no information". People subconsciously feel the info is irrelevant or unimportant so they leave it off or do not mention it. Happens a lot when you take a witness statement or are interviewing a suspect. At this point we'll take any and all info and determine for ourselves it's importance. Give us the scraps and tidbits, will take whatever we can get.

In this instance I feel there is a lot of info. A simple confirmation of whether they are taking on any people or dropping them off would quell a lot of the rumor mills, speculation and wishful thinking. For personal reasons I hope they are picking staff up.

At this point we know no cruises until July 27 on any Disney ship. Not sure why they would be picking up staff 6 weeks in advance of that. Assuming there are no coronavirus cases among those currently on board, the ships are clean and ready to go. These are people who are used to turning a ship over in about 6 hours. It should take less time given there are no departing passengers.
The other issue may be fear of losing their jobs for leaking information. There IS a Disney do not rehire Black List.

Was hopeful that they may be picking up staff 6 weeks prior to sailing because staff would have to be onboard several weeks prior to taking on guests. Otherwise you would pick up a CM with no idea who he/she has been exposed to while they were on land and then turn around and bring on guests who could be exposed to the recently picked up CM. Only way to prove it would be a Covid free environment prior to onboarding the public would be to show CDC that CM's have been onboard for several weeks with no outbreaks or symptoms. Also, staff is going to need re-training on the "new way" things are prolly going to be done in this post Covid cruising, so a few more weeks than normal may be needed when onboarding staff.

As DCLDVC1 so eloquently put it, a lot of wishful thinking. Yes, wishful thinking for those of us with upcoming cruises and it's thinking that could be cleared up in seconds with a little bit of info from someone onboard. Are they loading or unloading?

So Carnival's announcement for 08/01 was actually just a money grab and not an intent to start back up. Regarding the announcement to start back up on 08/01, Mr. Donald stated:

Bookings “went through the roof,” he told the website. “They just jumped at that point,"

Ah, makes sense now

. Also, staff is going to need re-training on the "new way" things are prolly going to be done in this post Covid cruising, so a few more weeks than normal may be needed when onboarding staff.
I don't think there will be much additional training. Cruise lines like Disney have been dealing with norovirus outbreaks for years. Our Disney cruise was in 2003 and they had hand sanitizer outside every eating venue, and staff were busying wiping down railings etc with disinfectant. I think the big change will come in the cruise terminal in screening passengers before they board.

Carnival Corporation’s CEO, Arnold Donald, told Cruise Critic, “I don’t know when we’ll sail again.”

I hate to tell that guy but if they don't start their line back up, they aren't going to sail again anyways because they will go bankrupt. They'll prolly have to declare bankruptcy even if they do start back up so that they can get some wiggle room on their debt payments from the billions in new debt they took on in April.

Does anyone honestly believe DCL will be sailing again only 3 weeks after Disney reopens the parks?
