Dream February 26, 2012 4-day cruise

There are 12 of us in total. The hotel you are recommending looks very reasonable. We are going to give the Fish extenders exchange a miss as its our first cruise and we would like to come the meet and great as it would be nice for the children to make some friends.
My brother is 16 and I know how hard it is to make friends quick at that age and as the cruise is short i thought it nice for some of the teens to maybe chat before they go. What does anyone think of opening up a thread for the teens on our ship to meet/chat first. I wouldnt know how to do this it was just a thought for them.

Becky

Sorry, you probably wrote and I missed, what are the ages of everyone? There are 17 of us in total. Unfortunately my oldest boy is only 12. But he is a mature 12. He keeps to himself most of the time as well. Now my 10 year old boy is a different story and won't stop talking. So anyone needing someone to speak for them, he's game :-)

As we get closer I will send out an invitation to everyone on this board for the meet and greet. I am planning to have basic sundries (alcohol free carbonated juice for the kids, champagne, beer, etc.) but anyone wanting something specific should plan to bring it with them. We have a kitchen in our suite and a coffee/tea maker.

I tell you, I am sorry ready for February but do not want to wish away the fall and winter.

This will be our first Disney cruise and the first vacation for our twins, who will be two and a half at the time of sailing. (We have a boy and girl) Anyone else with younger children sailing on this cruise?

We're bringing our kids as well...DS 21:cool1:, DD 24:bride:, and Son-In-Law 25:worship:. I'm glad they'll be there because it'll take all three of them to keep an eye on me!:hyper: I'm the biggest kid of all...

DW can't watch me all by herself.:love2:

Hello all! I'm wondering about port activities in Nassau that would be appropriate for 2 1/2 year olds. Not sure I want to spend the money on some of the activities, like dolphin swimming, since they probably won't even remember it. (I'd rather wait and do it when they're older) I've thought about the Ardastra Gardens, but think it would be much cheaper to do it not through Disney. My only concern is car seats. Do you know if local buses go there? Are they safe/reliable? Any other suggestions for activities/sight seeing opportunities that are within walking distance of the port would also be appreciated. Thanks! Can't wait for this cruise!

Sorry i haven't posted much lately. Things have been crazy with school starting and such. I heard there is a pirate museum within walking distance to the port. pirate: Our 8 year old DS is really into Pirates of the Carebean so we might check that out. As far as other things within walking distance, I know the straw market is close by but I don't know if I would take really young children. Let me know if you find anything else. Can't wait for this cruise!

Ok so we have 7 adults all different ages but 22-50. My eldest son 5, my youngest son 2, my brother 16 and my two nieces which one will nearly be 5 and the other will have just turned 3 on the 24th. So 3 of young children who are desperate to be part of the oceaneers club but the baby who is too young but we are thinking of booking him into the small world nursery. Does anyone have any experiences with the nursery? Is it worth it?

So excited for our cruise :yay:

We went to Andastra Gardens. Went thru disney. I think there is a bus that goes there, but we just felt it was safer to go through disney. It was a small zoo. DH and I enjoyed feeding the lory parrots but DD and DS who were 7 at the time were afraid of them :scared1:
The main attraction is the marching flamingos. Really amazing how they trained those flamingos. The 2nd part of the excursion was a tour around Nassau. Really didn't care for this part.

We will be on Feb. 26th Cruise. This will be my and DD (age 5) 2nd Dream cruise and my DH first!

Sorry to post again. I went back and read the thread. We are interested in the Meet and Greet but won't be doing the FE. We live 20 minutes from the Port. We are staying at the Country Inn & Suites the night before. (Feb. 25) because we have points. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Lynn

Dear Lynn:
WELCOME! I will put you down for three for the meet and greet! I will have my daughter and nephew who will be 5 at the time of the cruise as well. Any chance you know how to get a hold of the Mickey Cheese Snacks for the meet and greet? I am having the room stocked with drinks and water, but I understand the cheese snacks are only available at the Disney Theme Parks. I found them for an outrageous price online! Look forward to meeting you as well! It should be a nice few days of relaxation.

Hi All:
Anyone still wanting to participate in either please let me know. I know I have already begun my FEs. I think we should cut off the FE by beginning of January 2012 if possible so that we all have time to prepare. There are no rules with this FE as we have such a small group. You can spend what you want, deliver when you want, etc.

Anyone who would like to volunteer anything for the Meet and Greet please let me know so we may coordinate. Again it will be in 12502 right after the Muster Drill. It's on concierge so I will have a teenager standing guard at the gate in case it is closed. Paper plates, cups and napkins would be much appreciated!

I need to get my hubby to put the list up on our website so you all can access it. We are currently at 6 families for the FE and around 40ish for the meet and greet.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! Not sure about the Mickey Cheese. I know they sell Mickey Cheese at Walmart but don't think we can bring it on board. I can help with paper goods. Just let me know what you need. We are actually in Concierge Family Stateroom so just down the hall from your beautiful suite! :)

Hi Again:
We'll work on who brings what as we get closer :-) Thanks so much for offering to help.

Regarding the Mickey Cheese Snacks. I saw online that they sell Mickey Cheese Snacks that are like goldfish crackers but in the shape of a Mickey Head. I certainly don't care if the snacks are shaped like a fish or a Mickey, but I thought it'd be fun to have the Mickey shaped for the kids. I'm not going to pay $12.50 a bag online though:-). For that I can get the overpriced cheese, cracker and fruit trays on the ship

A couple of questions.
1. This might sound silly, but can someone give me more details about the meet and greet? Does it occur before the cruise begins? Are there any participants with younger children? (Our twins will be 2 1/2 at the time of the cruise)
2. Hotel recommendations. We want affordable, but nice. Preferably with a shuttle to the cruise. (And a shuttle from the airport would be a lovely bonus!)

Thanks!

Hi There, no silly questions on this board. You ask away and we'll do our best to assist.

1. The meet and greet will occur on the ship just after the muster drill and before the sail away party. So around 4ish? It will be in room 12502. And yes, we have younger children attending, a few 5 years, a few 4 years, and at least 1 other two year old. There may be more attending by the time we get closer. It won't be anything formal. Just a time for all of us to get together and say hello, have a few snacks... I'll have drinks for the adults and children. I will be asking for help with snacks and paper goods though. We'll sort that as we get closer. If the little ones get tired they are welcome to crawl up on the couch and watch a Disney Movie or get in one of the beds. I know it's a LONG day the first day, especially not being able to get into your room until later, then the muster drill, meet and greet, sail away party, dinner, etc.
2. Hotels.... Hmm, that's a tough one because everyone has a different idea of nice hotels. For our family the Residence Inn in Cape Canaveral is the best because there are six of us, plus the rest of my family that brings us to 20 total. It has a kitchen, full breakfast served in the morning, close to beach, very nice pool, call ahead service for grocery shopping (they will stock your room with whatever you request, including items you may need for taking on the cruise for the little ones) and shuttle to the Port. I have also heard many people really like Comfort Inn and Suites. (Sorry I've not been there so I do not know, but very favorable reviews on the Disney Cruise Line Discussion Board). Residence Inn does not have a shuttle from the airport. I am actually not aware of any that do. But then again I haven't cruised in 8 years so one of the new hotels might. Most people either rent a car, take the Super Shuttle, or get a private Sedan. With our numbers we are renting a van that we will drop off at Avis the morning of the cruise. But if there are four of you a Sedan would work nicely and would be about $90 one way.

Let me know if you decide to attend and I'll put you on the list. There is also the Fish Exchange. I can't remember if you asked about previously and decided to pass or not.

Hi everyone!:wave2:

And a big HELLO & WELCOME to everyone who has joined our little meet since I last posted! :welcome:

Sorry I haven't been on in a while! I've been really busy at work and my daughter is in her high school marching band. This is her first year......so my first season as a band mom. My goodness...they keep those kids BUSY! By Sunday we are wiped out!:faint:

We are sooooooo ready for this cruise! We need a little R&R!!!!!

pdwimmer....let me know what you would like me to bring for the meet. We live about 2 hrs from the port so I may be able to bring some things that would be more difficult for those flying in. Refrigerated snacks???
