Dream Catchers

ok, this is a weird request, but maybe someone can help me.

I really want to buy my son an authentic Native American dream catcher. I know I can order them online, but I want him to see them and choose his own. This way maybe it will work for him.

He has been having nightmares and knows about the 'power' of dream catchers. I bought him a chapo little one at a local store, but after seeing the real one his teacher had he knows his is 'fake'.

So, what I am hoping is to find a store somewhere during our vacation. We are driving to WDW via the 57/24/75 route from Chicago. Maybe there is something along the way?

Is there a good Native American store near WDW? Also we are driving to Venice one day during our stay. Maybe there is something between WDW and Venice?

Or maybe there is some sort of icon in African culture that might be available at AK or AKL?

We have been through all the standard bad dream tricks...spray bottle, night lights, glow in the dark stuff and so on. Nothing seems to work, but like I said he is fascinated with the story behind the dream catchers.

I know we could make one, but I think having him buy one from a Native American might make a bigger impact on him.

Thanks.

That's a really great idea! I don't know any place other than one in North Carolina...I don't know if you're passing through there...But there's a reservation there my family went to and got one for my brother from. Did you try a yahoo or google search for reservations?

I don't know an answer to your question, but you could try fresh rosemary under his pillow at night. It honestly worked for me. Worth a shot until you find a dreamcatcher.

Bethany, I sent you a PM, but as an after thought, there is a store in Frontier land that sells them. I can picture it in my mind, it is on the left hand side as you walk from the entrance toward Splash and BTM. After (or right next to) Country Bears.

My kids got them last year in the gift shop at Wilderness Lodge. They have them in all different colors and sizes. They really work. Neither one of my kids has had a bad dream since they've had them.

We've got them here in Oklahoma. If I have time I'll check to see if I can find a place that shows the choices online. If not, good luck finding some place along the way. :D

The only place I can think is the Indian Reservation in Cherokee, NC, but it's a little ways from I-75.

I have 2 small dream catchers I keep in my truck. One for each of my kids. I told them the story of the dream catcher and that's helped them a lot with some of their bad dreams. For some reason, they prefer the dream catchers to be in my truck though.

Do you think that your driving is what is giving them nightmares? :p

When I was a child, I loved ghost stories but they would scare me at night. "Jeffrey", Kathryn Tucker Windham's "personal" ghost friend, told her to tell the children that if they turned one shoe one direction and the other the opposite direction at the foot of their bed when they went to sleep, no ghost would bother them.

I bought into it, and it worked for me once or twice. ;)

I found the Mexican version of dream catchers at one of the kiosks in Mexico at Epcot. They are little beads that come in a small box, and one is supposed to put the bead under the pillow to ward off bad dreams. My kids loved them, but have since lost them. They were only a few bucks, though, and served their purpose - my kids were also facinated with the concept of dream catchers. This was several years ago that I bought them, I think 2000, so not sure if they are still there or not.

Thank you everyone for all the replies and suggestios. After I went to bed last night I did think maybe Frontierland would have something.
I never even thought about WL, but that might be a good excuse to go see the resort.

Definitely go check out WL. It is a beautiful resort. I wish I could spend that much money on my trips.

Hey, Bethany, if your looking to unload it after to you find it, let me know. I suspect I'll be looking for one myself in a couple of years when my DS4 is in school with the SAME teacher. Isn't it amazing what she's exposed the kids to?

Have a great trip. Maybe we'll see you there!

If you go to Wilderness Lodge, take him to eat in Whispering Canyon. It's good BBQ and the wait staff is so funny. Last time we were there my DS had to ride a stick horse around the whole restaurant for trying to tattle on his sister. And watch out if you ask for ketchup or more beans! It's lots of fun. :teeth:

It has been three years since we stayed at WL but while we were there we not only purchased 2 beautiful dream catchers (you won't believe how many sizes and colors they have) but also a wonderful "Make Your Own Dream Catcher" kit.

And it would be a great reason to see a wonderful Disney resort.

Amazing is an understatement. She is such an incredible woman that I cant stop thanking my lucky stars we ended up in this house and with this home base school.
This week is N for her beloved Newfies :) Next week is L for Lighhouses and Lewis & Clark. If things go well, we get to meet the dogs next week. She is hoping to do it on Wednesday so Sam and I dont miss them since we will be out on Thurs and Friday.
Now that I have hijacked my own thread to another topic, I will stop here, LOL.

Thanks Amanda for those links, the first on especially was amazing. I loved all the different legends.
If we cant find one at WL, I will let him choose one from one of these sites. Thanks again
