Dream CAME true! June 21-26, 2011 TR w/LOTS of pics! Update 8/1 Day 6, Part 4

OMG, such a great report so far...can't wait for more:cool1: Thanks for sharing.

I LOVE to share! :cool1:

Awesome report!!

Thanks bonnielynn! :)

enjoying your trip report, I want to sail the Dream again after reading so far:cool1:

:lmao: ME TOO!

Love your TR! We sail the Dream in 2 weeks:cool1: We have reservations for Remy for the 3rd night of our cruise and by the looks of your photos we are in for a real treat. Looking forward to reading more.

You're going to have such a great time at Remy's! And definitely indulge in that Chesse course for me please! :worship:

That looked like an awesome meal! Chateau Neuf de Pape was a great choice! Can I ask what they charged for that bottle?

Tell me, when you finish eating a meal like that, do you both just go back to the room and pass out or do you run down to the gym and jump on the elliptical?

Where did your DB and SIL dine while you were at Remy? I assume that they were on the same dining schedule as you two, had you not gone to Remy. Also that you all dined together for the rest of the trip. I hope you got to go to Artist's Palette or whatever they call that restaurant. We really enjoyed that the most, except for Palo when we sailed on the Wonder.

I bet by the end of your trip I will be begging her to book a Mexican Riviera Cruise on the Wonder because we don't have to travel to get there!

The wine was super YUMMY! I believe it was only 70ish? The waiter is the one who suggested this after DH had chosen another bottle that was a bit more expensive (in the $100 range) so it was quite a surprise to see the waiter choose something cheaper! But it was great!

LITERALLY as soon as I took those pictures of the truffles on the bed, we both passed out. He passed out on the couch and I had the whole bed to myself! :cloud9: Talk about a goodnight's sleep! :lmao:

They didn't want to do Remy or Palo (they're not really into 'this' type of food) so that night was dinner at Enchanted Garden. And it was really weird, when we talked to my brother later that night (or maybe the next day) he said that it was only going to be the four of us at a table for the rest of the trip! We didn't have any other diners with us, which I was looking forward to :sad2: But we still had fun and were able to act silly which we may have not done if there were other people at the table

Dh and i are kicking ourselves for never booking a trip while we were living in LB :sad1::sad2::guilty::mad::headache:

I love your Welcome Aboard photo! Remy's looks amazing! Looks like fine dining at its best! :goodvibes

Yes, our trip is coming up very soon...one month from today, or 30 days from today! But, I haven't made a packing list yet...yes, this is ME! And I haven't written my list yet, which I usually do months in advance! I will get to it probably early next week at the latest...just busy right now, tomorrow is my parents' anniversary, been cleaning the house a lot since summer break started yesterday and I have more time, and spending time with my boys. After our BBQ on the 4th, I will get to the rest of the cruise preparations. I did enter our passport info online though, and I booked our Atlantis shore excursion for when we dock in Nassau. :)

I knew you would be addicted to cruising after this! ;)

I believe it was about, what, 2 or 3 weeks ago you were saying you still hadn't made your packing list yet! :lmao: it's okay, mine didn't get made till about 3 days before the trip and it ended up working out!:thumbsup2

Do you know what you'll be doing at Atlantis? Are you guys touring the resort?

Great updates. Keep them coming....

Thank you!

alright!! can't wait for more....I am so doing remy...hopefully my kids can hang for 3hrs in nursery/oceaneers club...

From what i've heard from talking (and eavesdropping :lmao:) on the cruise, was that parents had a hard time getting their kids to LEAVE the clubs! :cool1: I hear it's pretty awesome in there and i'm sure EVERYONE will have a blast! :yay:

to update!

As a few people here know, DH and I received free Southwest flight tickets to anywhere in the US, but we need to use the tickets before March 15 of next year, and because DH is a teacher, we have limited time.

After MUCH deliberation and hours of research, just this morning, we FINALLY booked a small trip!

We wanted to go somewhere random, where we would probably never 'pay' for airline tickets to, and the furthest away from California is obviously the New England area!

So we'll be flying out of LAX, Sunday July 10 and arriving in Providence RI, where we will stay for one night. The next day we will drive to Boston and stay the night there, and the next night, we're debating on staying in Portland ME or driving back to Providence, when are flight leaves Wednesday July 13 at 230pm.

Sooooo If anyone has any tips for me on what to do/see/eat, please let me know! Alison, i know you'll probably be jumping in here! ;)

Hi! I'm really enjoying your trip report....we board the Dream in 47 days - double dip to Castaway. Your photos from parasailing is making me rethink to book that excursion....what a view!!
Anyhow, I see you are coming to the Atlantic side of the ocean in a few days!! Providence has great Italian restaurants on Atwells Avenue (Angelo's) you can't go wrong with any of them. Also, the Providence Place Mall is a great place to shop and eat. If you want to gamble Twin Rivers Casino is in Lincoln, Rhode Island or you could try Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods in Connecticut they have great night clubs, shopping and restaurants. Newport, RI has great beaches, also mansions and the Cliff Walk is pretty cool. Or you could venture over to Cape Cod Hyannis or Ptown Massachusetts great beaches and sights to see. Take the boat over to Martha's Vineyard for the day. As for Boston - Fanuel Hall, Museum of Science. Let me know if I can help you with anything!! I've never been to CA.....maybe in a few years! :) Laurie

:rotfl2: Of course I always have something to add! I don't know when you get into Providence and if there is really anything there you want to see, but you might consider driving to Boston the night you get in. Google says it's only 50 miles and you would probably beat the traffic on a Sunday night rather than face it Monday morning.

I wouldn't go much farther North on such a quick trip. There is so much to do there like the Freedom trail, Revolutionary war sites. Here are my foodie tips for you. Eat at the Union Oyster House in Downtown. It is the oldest restaurant in continuous operation in the US. We had oysters, chowda, a lobster roll I'm sure something else too. JFK ate there as well as other famous statesmen. The other place to go would be Blue Ginger, if you know who Ming Tsai is, that is his restaurant. We went there and bought his cookbook. He was in the kitchen. Fran asked for him to sign it for me, and then told him I went to bed with him every night! :scared1: Thus was pre DVR days and his show was on at midnight when I went to sleep. :lmao:

It's funny to hear these places named on the boards, as a lot of these places are not far from me! Yes Atwells Ave does have some good Italian restaurants. Have fun on your trip to New England!

I love your pics so far!!! :thumbsup2

I know, I know...I have been procrastinating a lot with my cruise packing list. I will get it done though, after the 4th!

They had a few tour options available at the Atlantis. They have the one where you get to swim with the dolphins, one where you get a tour of the resort and then go to the beach, and one where you just get a guided tour of the resort, than time on your own, called "Discover Atlantis". We're doing "Discover Atlantis". We thought about doing the one that includes the beach, but you still can't use the pool facilities at the resort, and we can go to the beach on our own if we really want to. Discover Atlantis is a 2.5 hour tour once we get to the resort. It takes about 25 minutes to get there by ferry from the ship. Our tour leaves at 11:30am, but we dock in Nassau at 8am. So, the plan is to order room service breakfast that morning (with the thing you hang on the cabin door the night before), and wait 20 minutes or so after we get clearance to get off the ship, to actually get off (less crowds). Then, we can walk around the area where the ship is and go into the shops and to the straw market for a little while (maybe an hour or so, like DH and I did last time we were there, 7 years ago, BC...Before Children! :rotfl2:). Then, we will go back to the ship and grab something to eat (thank goodness food is at your complete disposal at all times on a cruise...what would we do?! :lmao:). That should hold the kids (and us) over until we return from the tour. Then, we will go on our tour for 11:30. We should be back to the ship between 3 and 3:30. We will grab a snack (of course! ;)), then relax a bit and then get ready for early dinner.

The tour itself seems very nice. We will get a guided tour of the resort, the marine life and the digs. Then they will give us some time to explore on our own. The boys love going to the NY Aquarium here all summer, and they will love all the marine life they will see at the Atlantis. We chose this tour because we get to show the Atlantis to the boys, it is a reasonable amount of time for them (not too long and dragged out), and they love looking at different types of sea creatures!

We still don't know what we will be doing in Port Canaveral. It is our first port, and we don't arrive there until noon (we're there until 9pm). NOT doing WDW, because it will be the hottest and most crowded point of the day...maybe get to do a ride or 2, then back to the ship...too stressful. And way too expensive for just a tease, especially since we were just there last summer, and we will be back next summer. So we might just stay on the ship in port Canaveral and take the boys to the pool. It should be empty, so we can take advantage of that! But...we are planning to do that on our private island day also...so that would mean getting off the ship in only one port. We'll see, maybe we will just go to the beach on the private island for an hour or so. We anchor there at 11am, so it will be super hot on the beach and I am concerned for the boys, and also for myself since I have asthma and sometimes in the heat and humidity, I need to get into A/C right away. I know...I go to WDW in the summertime! But, there is always a gift shop I can go into in order to cool off! ;)

Can't wait to read more!!!

And because it was a Castaway Cay day, they also supplied a map along with a list of activities on the back, of what was going on that day on the Island:

After our parasailing adventure, we wanted to go check out Serenity Bay, an adult only part of the island.

It was so peaceful and beautiful!

You can see DH waving

IMG_2490.jpg

While we were laying out relaxing, DB and Dsil were doing the Jet Ski's (which they said were AWESOME and wished they had signed up for an extra day for this, for anyone curious about the Jet Ski's. They also said they saw 2 nursing sharks while they were out there!) Anyways, They are the second to last ones in the picture and you can barely make it out.

One thing about the beach/water here. Right as your walking into the water, there is a lot of shells, pebbles, rocks, etc. I saw a lot of people wearing water shoes and it's a good idea actually. Otherwise, be careful about where you step. The water is so clear, you'll be able to see where you're walking anyway :thumbsup2

We were STARVING, since we missed breakfast that morning, so we went over to Cookies Too BBQ (opens at 11:30), which is located to the right as you're leaving Serenity Bay (a very short walk away) Great food for such a little place! They had hamburgers, bbq salmon, bbq chicken, salad, TONS of fruit, sides, and desserts. Great choices!

DB and Dsil met up with us there after they were done with their excursion and we all decided to lay out at Serenity Bay and have some drinks.

*Lesha tip - there were about 2 or 3 CM's walking around taking drink orders. DEFINITELY order from them, rather than going and getting it for yourself at the bar. You're on vacation! Relax. And definitely try the Drink of the Day. It changes daily and they ran about $5.75*

Our friends that we had met in the adult pool yesterday, Andrea and Ryan, were out at Serenity Bay relaxing as well. They grabbed their stuff and parked it right next to ours on the loungers, and we all sat in the water for a good hour just chatting, laughing, and drinking....until it started to rain. HARD. I know that sudden downpours can happen while you're down here in the Bahamas, but geez. So we grabbed all our stuff and waited in the rain for the shuttle to come pick us up. If finally stopped raining by the time we reached Pelican Point, so we got off and browsed through the shops, and walk back to the ship. And of course took some pics along the way!

IMG_2504.jpg

Right before you get back on the ship, there's a place where you can throw your dirty beach towels into and they also had hand sanitizer stations. The six of us decided to go back to our rooms, take showers and get ready to watch the show that was going on that evening, 'Villians Tonight!' at 6:15pm (since we were all the second seating for dinner)

Dh and I left our stateroom close to 6 and went down to the Walt Disney Theater (Deck 3 & 4, Forward) to find Andrea and Ryan who were saving us seats near the front of the theater. DH got up and grabbed some beers for the five of us (Dsil doesn't drink beer) and we watched the show!

IMG_2507.jpg

IMG_2508.jpg

These are the only two pictures I got right before the show. They are STRICT about taking pictures/video of the performers. We saw a lot of CM's tapping people on the shoulders, politely asking them to stop recording/taking pictures in every show we went to, so don't attempt to take pictures. Just enjoy it! :)

P.S. The show had be one of my FAVORITES out of all of them! It was so funny and cute! The songs were fantastic!

How was the temp of the water at Castaway? Last time we went was in February, so it was still pretty chilly.

so no pics? or no flash photography? not that my pictures come out good anyways without the flash..

Great update! I think it's great that you met another couple to be with! Your TR is getting me so excited for our upcoming cruise!

Hi Laurie! Thanks for all the great suggestions! We'll be staying at the Westin in downtown Providence. Is Angelo's near the hotel? Any other restaurant suggestions near the hotel we could possibly walk to (or on the way from the airport to the hotel?)

You definitely need to make it out here one day! Gotta make it to Disneyland! :wizard:

:rotfl2: Of course I always have something to add! I don't know when you get into Providence and if there is really anything there you want to see, but you might consider driving to Boston the night you get in. I can always count on you to chime in Alison! :thumbsup2:cool1:

:rotfl::rotfl2: This LITERALLY made me LOL! And YES! I do know him! Obviously not personally, but have seen his stuff!

And we DEFINITELY wanted to go to the Union Oyster house for dinner. We head awesome things about the italian food in the north end. Any suggestions for lunch?

Also, this is what we decided to do. We're staying the first night in Providence. The next night, we'll drive up to Portland (2 1/2 hour drive from Providence) and hang out, relax there have dinner, etc. The next day we'll drive down into the Boston area (looking for a city outside Boston, closer to RI, where we can get a cheaper hotel AND take the subway in)...I believe someone had mentioned the city of Quincy so i'll check that out. Any other outside cities you suggest?

We're not counting on this trip to be relaxing by any means..therefore the slogan of the trip will be, "We'll sleep when we're dead." :lmao:

It's funny to hear these places named on the boards, as a lot of these places are not far from me! Yes Atwells Ave does have some good Italian restaurants. Have fun on your trip to New England!

Thanks Cheryl! I'm SO looking forward to it!

We (actually I had signed up for Discover Atlantis, when making reservations for excursions, since DH didn't care what we did in Nassau) however, the day before Nassau, DH asks, "What are we doing in Nassau?" "Discover Atlantis." "I don't want to do that. I'm going to pick something else." :confused3:lmao: So we didn't end up doing Discover Atlantis like I had originally planned to do, so i'm looking forward to how it goes for you!

Yeah, what is one supposed to do at PC? Isn't WDW like an hour away? Oh, I guess the Kennedy Space Center isn't too far from PC right? I think your idea is great! Staying on the ship will be the best plan, and i'm sure your boys are looking forward to swimming!

Hi silverangel! LOVE your pics in your sig! :)

How was the temp of the water at Castaway? Last time we went was in February, so it was still pretty chilly.

It was WARM! Ahhh, we grabbed those chairs you can take in the water, and just sat in them for hours! I can see how it would be chilly in February. But it was humid and hot during our trip, so that helped the temp of the water :thumbsup2

so no pics? or no flash photography? not that my pictures come out good anyways without the flash..

It was my understanding no pics at all. Because I was going to take a pic (with no flash) but I saw a CM look at me, so I put it away. I think they just don't want people to chance taking a picture and them realizing they forgot to take the flash off before they took it?

Really loving your report!:thumbsup2

The photos are fantastic - you really look like you had a great time!:)

Great update! I think it's great that you met another couple to be with! Your TR is getting me so excited for our upcoming cruise!

I know! I was so glad to have met another couple. I ALWAYS enjoy meeting new people and finding out more about them...especially people that are IN LOVE with Disney like I am!

Really loving your report!:thumbsup2

Mamaboogie! You were over on my Deluxe Dining thread weren't you?! :) How are you doing?!

Mamaboogie! You were over on my Deluxe Dining thread weren't you?! :) How are you doing?!

I'm always to be found on the dining review thread!:lmao: It's my home! I'm flattered to be remembered :)

We are considering a cruise in the near future so I'm temporarily moving in on the cruise forum!

It was great to find your report - like meeting an old friend!:lovestruc

You definitely need to make it out here one day! Gotta make it to Disneyland! :wizard:

Google maps says it's a 5 minute walk, but..... you might want to take a cab if you don't have a car. Providence Place mall is right next door if not attached to the hotel. I haven't been yet, but Fire and Ice is supposed to be good. Dave and Busters is cool games and dinner fun place. I hope you have a great vaca!! Enjoy, Laurie

Lesha, I just found your TR and I am just loving it! Great photos and such a fine review of Remy's. Love all the detail you are sharing with us. Thanks. Looking forward to the next update.

After the FANTASTIC show, all six of us decided to go grab a cocktail over at the Pink Lounge

IMG_2509.jpg

Drink menu

IMG_2512.jpg

IMG_2510.jpg

IMG_2511.jpg

The cocktail are a bit expensive, but they’re awesome! All the cocktails here are mixed with Champagne, just to let you folks know in case you don’t like champagne. But how can someone not LIKE champagne?! The bartender, Paulo, was so nice and made all his drinks great!

If you’re not going to have a drink here, at least come check this place out. It’s super gorgeous and you feel like you’re in a fancy, swanky, NY lounge (although I’ve never been in one. Just assuming!)

After spending about an hour just chatting and checking out the rest of “The District” (where all the adult lounges, clubs bars are located, 4th deck aft), it was getting close to 8:10pm, so we split our ways.

It was our first rotational dinner, and I was excited to meet our servers and have our first dinner with DB and Dsil.

Tonight we were at The Royal Palace (Deck 3 mid) and tonight the menu consisted of French dishes. So you get assigned a table number (that you’ll find in your stateroom, I believe, along with a schedule of your dining plan for the next 5 nights) We were number 43 and our drink server was Walter (? I’ll need to ask my bro. I completely forgot his name) and he was from Mexico and our server was Barbora from Czech Republic (so stinking cute and pretty!)

IMG_2517.jpg

IMG_2518.jpg

You guys have no idea how many pictures I have collected over the years of my Dsil doing this. She hates taking pictures.

IMG_2519.jpg

The menu

IMG_2514.jpg

IMG_2515.jpg

Sorry for the horrible look of the pictures. There was an awful shadow, so I did my best to photoshop the shadow out.

Walter (?) took our drink orders and Barbora took our appetizer and entrée orders.

My appetizer: ESCARGOT!!

IMG_2520.jpg

The first time I tried this dish was at Les Chefs de France in Epcot and we both FELL IN LOVE! I was so happy to see it on the menu! Tasted just how I remember it! Delicious and PACKED with flavor! It kind of has a pepperoni taste to it and is a little chewy.

DH’s appetizer: Pomegranate glazed Duck Breast

IMG_2521.jpg

Very tender and yummy and cooked perfectly!

My Entrée: Oven Baked Salmon Royale

IMG_2522.jpg

Served with Swiss chard and a truffle cauliflower puree. OH SO GOOD! The salmon was not dry at all and the accompaniments were perfect!

DH ordered the Roasted Wild Boar Tenderloin

IMG_2523.jpg

This is served with sweet carrots and an onion potato cake. All delicious!

Next up: DESSERTS!!!

IMG_2524.jpg

For those of you that don’t know me, I’m kinda OBSSESSED with desserts! I will skip an appetizer or not eat all my entrée, just to make sure I have enough room for dessert. Priorities, you know!?

Welp, I couldn’t decided between two of the desserts, and Barbora brought to my attention that I can order as much dessert as I wanted! ….bad thing to say to me.

So I did!

I ordered the Sweet Temptations

IMG_2525.jpg

This is a trio of Peanut Butter Mousse, Mango Cheesecake, and Tahitian Vanilla Crème Brulee. UGGGGGGH so good! Do not skip this! However, this next dessert is absolutely ridiculous.

The Grand Marnier Souffle

IMG_2527.jpg

I could have died and been happy after that first bite. This was actually Barbora’s favorite dessert and was so happy that I loved it! Its warm and gooey and lovely.

DH ordered the Strawberry Shortcake Sundae

IMG_2526.jpg

Of course delicious (and definitely not nutritious)!

It was such a great meal! I was very impressed (considering our first dinner was Remy) and happy!

Well, we didn’t want to go to bed, so we called up Andrea and Ryan on the Wave phones (brilliant idea! Use them!) and met up with them at the Skyline Lounge, located in the District.

This lounge is sophisticated and classy. And every 20-30 minutes, the ‘skyline’ changes, so the first pictures were of Brazil and the next were Paris. Very nice! Their drink menu consisted mostly of martinis (between $8.50-12.50) and they serve a Chocolate (dark or white) that is magnificent!

We stayed there until the bar closed (midnight) and went to our staterooms and found this

Today was such a great day and I was totally looking forward to what was in store for us tomorrow!

I'm always to be found on the dining review thread!:lmao: It's my home! I'm flattered to be remembered :)

We are considering a cruise in the near future so I'm temporarily moving in on the cruise forum!

It was great to find your report - like meeting an old friend!:lovestruc

Lol a woman who loves food is GREAT in my book! :cool1:

I think you should consider dropping the 'consider' and say you WILL take a cruise very soon! ;)

Thanks Laurie for your help! :goodvibes

Lesha, I just found your TR and I am just loving it! Great photos and such a fine review of Remy's. Love all the detail you are sharing with us. Thanks. Looking forward to the next update.

Hi there! Absolutely love your profile picture! We have a little pug named Percy and he's a doll!

That looks like so much fun! The Skyline Lounge looks way cool!

I love a Grand Mariner souffle! Now I need to figure out where in LB they serve them.
