Dream breakfast?

So, after researching the restaurant rotation, I've found menus and lots of info on dinner on the Dream. What I haven't seen is much info on breakfast. I know there is a buffet in Cabanas. I normally am not a buffet person, mainly because I find the food is often sub par. Is it worth it to take the extra time to go to one of the sit down restaurants? My husband and kids are all about the buffet so I am just wondering if I should try to steer them away from it or if I should just cave and do the buffet? We are doing a 3 night cruise so our time is limited.

The buffet is the main breakfast location. There are also special order/prepared omelettes available on the buffet line. We've always eaten at the buffet on all our cruises for breakfast. I'd suggest you give it a try, you might find it's not so bad.

That being said, there is usually one of the Main Dining Rooms that serves a sit down breakfast. And there are varying reports as to whether it's "better" than the buffet or not. There is also a smaller (variety) buffet in Enchanted Garden.

You'll get through the buffet faster than at a sit down meal, in most cases.

Cabanas is open for breakfast in buffet style...it is a HUGE buffet and the food is the same as what you would get in any of the MDR's.
There is always room service :)

But, no hot breakfast from Room Service. Unless you're Concierge.

Good to know.
I don't get room service but I just figured that they had good options like eggs and bacon type of items. Thanks for the heads up.

My daughter would LOVE the room service menu as she adores carbs. :)
My husband and son , however, would not be able to survive for very long without the made to order omelets and some bacon. lol

In my experiences, the sit down restaurants don't take much more time than Cabanas for breakfast. There isn't a very long wait at all. The food comes out very quickly, much quicker than dinner. Enchanted Garden has a buffet (smaller selection than what is at Cabanas) and Royal Palace has a made to order menu. My husband isn't a buffet person either for the same reason (typically lesser quality food) but he loves Cabanas.

If it were me, I would try the sit down b'fast at least once. That way you won't later regret not doing it.

I actually find the buffet food BETTER than the sit-down breakfast that I tried once. Of course that I had Ms. Grumpy for a server might have had something to do with my overall dislike of it, but I didn't find my food as warm as on the buffet.

I'm kind of sad now that I've been diagnosed with a gluten sensitivity and have to avoid that because it seems like the sit-down is the easier way to go. :(

I LOVE the buffet breakfast on the Dream…and I am definitely NOT a buffet person! There is so much variety and so many choices, like fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, omelets, oatmeal, waffles, etc…I would definitely try it.

If you're interested, I have some pics of the breakfast buffet in my trip report, linked in my signature :-)

I found on The Dream why limit myself lol. We have cereal etc in our room then later go to the buffet at Cabanas as innocent as you like , not a morsel had touched our lips. We played this game. No white of the plate showing... How high can you stack it.

This year I am thinking can I make the trio? Room, MDR and cabanas? After 4 hospital trips this year I have some serious kilos to gain. The clock is ticking..

You do not want to miss buffet I think it's the best.

We didn't do a sit-down breakfast on the Dream, but I had something at Cabanas that I've never had before and it was SO delicious! It was Meusli, but not what I see at the store. It was in a serving bowl on the buffet with quite a bit of milk in it along with very small bits and pieces of fruit like Granny Smith apples and banana. I've never seen it served that way before. It was unbelievable and I'm trying really hard to find a recipe for it. If any of you had it and know how to make it, please share! I would be eternally grateful! :)

If you do a sit down for breakfast do they seat you with other family or do they keep your party alone? That was always a huge turn off for us on other cruise lines for the non-dinner meals.

Allearsnet has the recipe: http://allears.net/din/recipes/rec-mues.htm

The DCL Muesli is indeed delicious and is more similar to the original "Bircher Muesli", invented by a Swiss doctor called Bircher. The stuff you buy in stores is more or less similar, but in its dry form. The Bircher Muesli would be soaked over night and has grated apple in it. Through the soaking it gets more a cold oat meal kind of consitence and in my experience that is how it is served on DCL. Oh, and when you look at the recipe you will find an ingredient that might be one of the secrets behind its deliciousness: heavy cream!

I've always been seated at a table alone during breakfast or lunch in the MDRs.

They can go to the buffet and you can eat at the MDR at least once.

We didn't have this experience. We were on the Wonder back in March and breakfast took forever! We even contemplated going to the buffet because our food was taking forever. And we didn't order anything out of the ordinary. Didn't help that our server was not friendly when she was around (which was very little). I'm a fan of the MDRs for meals because when I'm on a cruise, I like the idea of being waited on. I'm paying a premium, I want service. :)

Oh my goodness!!!! I couldn't be more excited that you posted this, @Flossbolna! THANK YOU!!!! And, I felt like the 'milk' was something heavier - oh boy! I'll probably still use milk instead of heavy cream; gotta watch my girlish figure around here. :lmao:
