Dream 8a

Why had a Roy when the Walt is the same price?
But me personally, an upgrade to a 1BDR would be just fine.

I still prefer the Roy since it's on the right side of the ship, but I wouldn't turn either one down!

So I spoke with my TA today. The 8a rooms on the 5th floor only sleep 3. So I have gone from being happy about my rooms to being in tears.

We have 4 children and as you know the queen doesn't split, so I had planned on letting the 3 girls (who will not share a bed without fights) sleep in one room, while hubby, baby and I slept in the other room, leaving a sitting area for us. Which is why I was excited about the layout with they baby.

Well now I have to have 2 girls in one room, the other on the couch in our room, the baby in the pack and play and us. Not the end of the world for some people, but it is our 10 year anniversary this cruise, so I would have loved a little more space to myself. Now I will have two children sleeping in my room, which means no tv after bedtime :(

Then there is the bathroom. My TA called DCL and they say it is a split bathroom with round tub, but clearly it isn't. No one else in my family finds an issue with it, but I do. I am all about the bathroom and shower. They even say in all their literature that all 8a's have a split bath and round tub including the rooms on deck 5.

I am so sad and dissapointed. If I would have known about this last year when I booked instead of a few weeks before my trip on the now sold out cruise, I would have gone up one more category. SIGH

From what it seems so far, the 8A rooms on deck 5 (5020/5022/5520/5522) have the dividing wall between the bed and sofa, but doesn't have a split bath.
The 8A rooms on deck 6 (6016/6514) are one large open room with a support beam in the middle, but the bathrooms is supposed to be split.

Hopefully more pictures will be posted!

I think a lot of people who have booked those rooms are going to be surprised when they see them. A lot of people figure out where everyone is going to sleep based on what DCL presents to them how the rooms will be (the stateroom layout) and book categories based on what they want/need (such as split bathroom, or not) It's really unfair to book something that says split bath and then it's not. For many years it's been the main deciding factor between booking cat 11/12 or 10 and up... do they need the split bath or not. If someone back then booked a 10 for the split bath and got a room that didn't have it- they'd be upset same as this situation. I feel for you. :(

If it wasn't for this board I wouldn't have known to switch our 5E room awhile back.... I had booked the small one that was also obstructed! If I'd just got on the ship and noticed the ones next to me not only larger and non-obstructed but also having full view of my verandah (ie: not nearly as private as what I'm used to on verandahs) I'd have been upset too. Some rooms without dividers, some rooms without split bath that should have it, verandah issues such as obstructions/the tiny one on deck 5 aft that I've seen a picture of, etc.-- they are going to have complaints. If I were you, and was forced to keep that room, I'd definitely let them know how unhappy it makes you to book one thing and get another. That's my opinion.

That is the advice from my TA. I have already printed out the documentation saying what the room should be and my TA is actually going to be there when I am there. I am just sad that I will have to take time on the cruise to deal with this. SIGH

Feeling a little better today about it, just glad to found out about it while I am at home and not be surprised about it when I got onboard.

I wonder if it would be worthwhile to call during business hours, explain this to the CM that answers and assists to speak to inventory control. I can't recall the phone number of inventory control (we had it awhile ago as we have been on wait lists before). I think there is also a fax number on the boards somewhere - maybe send a fax as well. Personally, I would do everything in my control to try to fix it now so you can avoid having to deal with it once you are on board. Even though it is sold out, there might still be rooms that haven't been assigned yet or things they can move around. Good luck. :goodvibes

DCL isn't forcing anyone to do anything, including keeping a room. Why is it DCLs problem that 2 girls won't sleep in the same bed? It isn't. And the floor plans and room layouts all say sonething to the effect of artisit rendering, layouts may differ from pictures. Some cabins have split baths, some don't. I think the description on the website indicates that.

We have all spent a lot of money booking and going on cruises. All I expect when I have booked is a room that will accomodate the amount of people in the room. If it means sharing a queen bed with someone, so be it. When I was a child and was living with 3 of my sisters, when we went anywhere, we slept where we were told, sometimes 3 in a double. If we so much as peeped about it, there would be discipline. What my parents said, we did. If we didn't want to do something that was part of the plan, too bad, so sad, We didn't pay for the vacation and my parents were not going to put up with us being brats. We did not spoil our parents vacations, either.

I just looked on Disneycruise to book a cat. 8A and it now reads:
"Room Configuration:Queen-size bed, single convertible sofa, wall pull-down bed (in most) or upper berth pull-down bed (in some), split bath with round tub and shower (in most)."

If you have a description of your room confirguation that doesn't give the parennthetical disclaimers, I would expect they would do something to make it right. They obviously see the need to give more data points, probably after the first cruise (if these disclaimers weren't there before).

The disclaimers were there last week. I am not sure about before then.

Not sure if all 8As on deck 5 only sleep 3. At least 2 sleep 4 people. Room 5018 is an 8A and comes up as an option on several cruises when I look for 4 people. 5520 came up for us when I was looking at booking a cruise also but I decided against it.

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what type of room is this? Is it a suite? And if so, why would it only have one bathroom? It's really laid out nicely!

We have an 8A GTY booked for October. I wonder with all the excitement over these rooms and since there are only two of us, if we'll be upgraded since everyone seems to want these rooms now?

I searched looking at a 3 day Feb 2012 (keep in mind some rooms maybe booked already and life boat restrictions,) and came up, with being offered.

4 adults - 6514, 6016, 5018
3 adults - 6514, 6016, 5018, 5022, 5020, 5522, 5520.

HCP
4 adults -6014
3 adult -6014

Can't get rooms 5518, 6512, 6510 or 6012 to pop up with 3/4 adults.

We, at our house, keep thinking that 6014 HCP is the mirror of 6514, but is might not be as it is across the ship from 6512, the numbering is off by one stateroom. This happens due to the mid ship 4D HCP rooms.

So the mirror rooms on the 6th deck could be;
6514/6016
6512/6014
6510/6012.

I just found this on a website cruises dot com.
Disney Dream
Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom

Category: 8A
Size: 241 sq ft.
Occupancy: 2 guests standard - some sleep 3 to 5
Amenities: A queen-sized bed or two twin beds and a single convertible sofa - some staterooms have a wall pull-down bed or upper berth pull-down bed, large porthole window with built-in seating, privacy divider, private split bathroom with round tub and shower, half bath has vanity, sink and toilet, 22" flat-screen TV, iPod docking station, refrigerator, ample closet space, safe, hairdryer, phone with voicemail, and individual climate control.

Wheelchair Accessible Staterooms: 5018, 5518, 6012, 6014, 6510, 6512

When we booked in December for October 2011, there was only one Cat 8A hcp offered. 6014. And having checked many dates on the Dream and Fantasy, 6014 is the only stateroom offered online for a Cat 8A handicap, perhaps they hold the other 5 that show HCP symbols, on the oldest deck plan, for call in reservations.

RM. 5018, that will show when looking for a normal Cat 8a, but not for a HCP search. There are several other noted HCP rooms on the older deck plans that could not be designed to meet ADA requirements and are no longer designated HCP.

There are NO twin beds on the Dream. Shame that whomever wrote this is going to be used as a source when people whine to DCL that the beds don't split.

well you clearly have lower expectations than most.
I mean gosh- if I book a higher category expecting to have split bath like they say- even when she CALLED THEM to clarify... then you should get a split bath.
Honestly I'd prefer to pay for an inside room (and save money) rather than end up with an oceanview with no curtain divider and no split bath. The porthole is not that big of a draw for me, sorry.

If you booked a verandah room are you still only going to care about if you all have enough space to lay down?
People look into this stuff and book accordingly- and many that's always assuming there will be a curtain divider, some base it on whether they want split bath or not, many base it on whether or not they want a porthole (or not) or verandah (or not)-- not a whole lot of people want to pay DCL prices and just get what they get as long as they have enough space SOMEWHERE to lay down. LOL (even when booking a gty they book it the category they desire for various reasons.. otherwise they'd just book cat 12 gty)

And for me it wouldn't have a THING to do with how my kids behaved. They'd sleep where I told them and not complain. It would be for US wanting the curtain and wanting the split bath- period.

If that's all you expect... then you're exactly the kind of guest they are hoping for but I doubt very many cruise like you- just wanting enough bedding space for the guests and nothing more. :lmao:

(and as far as those sleeping arrangements you mentioned- sometimes it's not that cut and dry. I mean what if you have a young child and an older one and one or the other sleeps rough and would hurt the other? what if you have opposite gender teenagers and that's UNCOOL having them sleep together in the same bed. And this is not just my opinion- like HUD homes, govt apts and such you have to have enough bedrooms when you have opposite gender children past a certain age/etc. Likewise I wouldn't want to sleep in bed with a teenage son, just another example)
