..,dreading answering the door for Halloween? UPDATE IN OP

I won't be home, going to party. :)

Last time I gave out candy, I got older "kids". I gave out spider rings because nobody trusts candy anymore. One kid had the nerve to say "Is that ALL YOU HAVE?" What a brat! Ever since then, its door closed, shades down, lights off on Oct 31.

We had kids ring the bell last year after we ran out of candy and I didn't answer and I could hear one saying "We know you're there your car is here!!" This kid should go work for a collection agency!

I used to get so much flack from people when I trick or treated the last few years. I was over 5 ft tall by the time I was 9, so even though I was well in the age limit for trick or treating, people would see how tall I was compared to my friends and lecture me about trick or treating being for younger kids and I shouldn't be going out anymore. :(

My son is 15 and still loves to go out. Last year my 12 year old wasn't as gung-ho but this year he was.
Here's a pic of them dressed up for tonight.

Me!! Not looking forward to it at all. DD (6) has asked can we leave the house, so off we are tonight to go see Wallace and Gromit. DS (9) hates halloween also. We don't celbrate it, so no reason to stay around!

Me. That's why DH is out ToT'ing with the kids, and I'm hiding in my office with all the living room lights off. :rotfl: He doesn't mind it as much as I do.

I welcome anyone of any age who politely trick-or-treats at my home, except mosquitos! They are all over the outside of the house. Every time I open the door I have to fight them off.

DD, 17, is out trick-or-treating with a friend. They are in costume and I know that she will be very polite. That is just the way she is. This is her last chance to do this. I hope she has a blast. I'd much rather have her doing this than at some party where I have no idea what other kids will be doing.

I'm fine with anyone coming to my house on Halloween. I judt don't see why there have to be "rules" about it. Come on, it's two hours one night a year. Would it kill you to throw a Reese's in the bag, even if the kid is shaving and doesn't say a word?

Same here. I've been 5'7" since the 6th grade.

We don't even get trick or treaters b/c of where we're situated in the neighborhood, I think they forget there is a house here. I'd give to teens if they were dressed up though.

I just had a woman ring my bell. I never get any trick or treaters so I was leary about who was ringing the bell so I just stuck my head out the window. She said she was from a local cemetery asking if we had thought about a living will. I'm thinking this is just too weird that she's out tonite of all nights. Now I can hear her next door with the neighbors. :confused3

That's too weird.

I used to be annoyed by older kids without a costume but now have DS,13.
He still wants some fun and candy but feels he is too old Trick or Treat.
Last year he collected used eyeglasses for charity and also got some candy. I think he should do that next year. It gives him a good reason to go Trick or Treating plus a candy bonus.

I will give candy to anyone in a costume. My sister and I went ToTing when I was 16 and she was 14 and it was fun - we were Bonnie and Clyde and we put effort into it! However, if you show up with no costume, too bad, no candy.

I also could care less how old the kids are. In my neighborhood, the kids get candy and the parents that are taking them around, get beers and wine coolers. ;)

I wish I lived in your neighborhood :teeth:

we give all those 'kids' the stinky candy. (dots and stuff like that)

We live up a very steep hill, and anyone that comes up that hill will get candy and a lot of it. Tonight we actually had about 50 children ranging in age 1 up to I would say 16. I personally back in the 70's went trick or treating for my last time as a senior in high school. We dressed up and had a great time. I would rather the teenagers come up for trick or treating and get candy than be out doing whatever to cause problems. We make our kids grow up too fast now anyway. So more power to the kids that still trick or treat. Now if they tried to boot the little ones out of the way for the candy then yes I would have a problem. But we have been fortunate that the older ones seem to step back and wait even if some little ones come up while they were at the door. My DH said tonight he didn't know who had more fun the kids or me.. I think I did..... :rotfl2:

Every year my DS and i go to my sisters house where all the family gets together with the kids, we have pizza and they all go out Trick-Or-Treating and I usually stay at the house and give out the candy and when they get back with the little ones I go out with my DS. Don't parents teach their kids to say Thank You anymore? 80% of the kids that came to the door said trick-or-treat, got their stash and walked away without a word and their parents were 30 feet away on the sidewalk. What I was most impressed by were the other 20% that happened to be mostly teenagers over 13 who were very polite and Thankful.

One funny thing. Two teenage young men came to the door about 8:00pm. I answered the door along with all "4" nieces and nephews plus 2 friends that had returned from trick-or-treating. These two guys were very polite while the kids were giving them their candy and then the oldest one looked at me and said "Have a good evening and watch out for those teenage years"! I'm a little slow on the uptake and my sister was around the corner and heard this and was laughing and I said what is so funny and she said he was telling you to watch out for the teenage years with all your kids! DUH! Little did he know I am in them with DS who was home sick tonight and missed out on all the fun.

Happy Halloween All!

My ds think I am nuts but I dont answer the door. What I do is sit on the porch with a little table and I lay out the candy. I let the kids pick out whatever they want. I do that for 2 reasons. I dont want people peeking into my house seeing what I have. Sorry I dont know these people and I keep an eye on the teens who like to carry around eggs, shaving cream, paintball stuff etc. Everyone usually parks their cars in the driveways here and I dont feel like finding any surprises on our vans etc.

My dh said last night as we watched obvious highschoolers (how do I know?? Well I don't know of any 10 year olds who are OVER 6 FOOT TALL!! ;) ) pushing and being usual rude teenagers trick or treating at the downtown TOT "If you have a C-cup... You are too old to trick or treat." :teeth:

I've decided when we move into our new house, that I will have two bowls of treats. One will be filled with candy and whatnot, and the other one will be for the teens filled with travel sized deodorent and pimple cream. ;)
