..,dreading answering the door for Halloween? UPDATE IN OP

i wouldn't care how old anyone is as long as they have a costume. i would be annoyed if someone of ANY age showed up in their everyday clothes without even bothering to throw on a mask or some face paint. but if someone's grandma rings my bell wearing a costume, she's getting candy :teeth:

Exactly!! I really hate it too when they ride UP to your doorstep on their bikes, in groups, then cut back across your lawn on their bikes, or when they expect you to put the candy in their baseball hat, or when they ring your doorbell for the third time. Those kids aren't getting any candy from me, period.

I guess I should clarify by saying I don't mind if teens trick or treat, but come on... put a little effort into it! Most of the teens that came by my house didn't have any costumes on. Not even a Halloween t-shirt.

And then not even bothering to say "trick or treat" is what got me mad.

I tried to have a little fun with them, no "trick or treat" - no candy. It was like pulling teeth. I only got "thank you"s from the little ones.

I'm still not looking forward to opening the door to find 10 high schools students pushing to be first and trampling all over my landscaping. If youre over the age of 10 you should at least have some manners and respect. Heck, I'm giving you free candy for doing absolutely nothing other than ringing the doorbell.

When I was in college, we put on costumes and went trick or treating. The development loved it because there weren't a lot of kids who lived there.

I like Halloween and I like to give out candy and see all the kids. This will be the first year I won't be t or t with our kids.

I told my teenagers they have to have on a mother approved costume before I let them out the door. I'll remind them to say thanks.

Good point about the time. In my community official trick or treat time is 6pm to 8pm.

It has really gotton over the top when there is an "official trick or treat time". What happened to; "you go out when it gets dark and come home when they turn out their porch lights".?

No costume, no candy. Sorry, but I get 300 to 600 trick or treaters where I live because we're basically across the street from an elementary school.

I trick-or-treated all through high school. Always in a costume, and always collecting money for UNICEF. Of course, getting candy never hurt...

We just moved to a new area, and I don't know how many kids we will get. I'll give candy to everyone who comes until it runs out.

I don't have a problem with the older kids trick or treating. But I think they should at least dress up in a costume. And I think it is really bad when I get a truck load of them. I really mean it, their parent drive them up and they jump out of the back of a pick up truck. Not even sure where they came from. We have lived in our house for 9 years and I have never seen these kids or thier parents before.

I can relate to this. This happens every year in my development.

We have such an awesome trick or treat neighborhood. I have never had a kid without a costume try to get candy--and I wouldn't have a problem not giving them any if they tried.
We also have some kids brought in--but I know that people out in the boonies can't really trick or treat when the houses are miles apart, so I expec they have to come somewhere.
I just wish for once DH would let me go with the kids--DD#1 (13) goes with her friend, DD#2 (10) goes with a couple of friends and one girls' mother--DH always goes with DS--I have to pass out candy. I haven't walked with the kids for years and DS is 7 now and soon will be off with his own friends.

I won't be home, going to party. :)

Last time I gave out candy, I got older "kids". I gave out spider rings because nobody trusts candy anymore. One kid had the nerve to say "Is that ALL YOU HAVE?" What a brat! Ever since then, its door closed, shades down, lights off on Oct 31.

In the almost 2 years I have been married (hubby has been here 3 Halloweens), we have YET to have a trick-or-treater. This year I said forget it and we are leaving our outside lights off.

Most of the kids in my area go to the local block party anyway.

I thought about putting a bowl of candy out, but you always get the wise guy who takes more than they should. I hate that.

Too bad you can't rig up a ****y trap for those who take more than the number allowed to have a fake hand jump out, grab their hand firmly while a voice says, "THE SIGN SAID TAKE TWO ONLY!!" and the hand won't let go until they drop all but 2 pieces. I'd love to see their reaction!

Last year we dressed up too to take my 5yr old nephew trick or treating. I didn't mean to but everyone gave us candy too. Bonus!

What about really little kids - like ones too little to eat candy? We want to take my DS (11 mths old) to 4 of the neighbors tonight - mainly to show off his monkey costume. Should we accept candy?

i love giving out candy and I don't care how old the kid is. You have to be polite and wear some sort of costume even if it's a bum or a mask.

I always give candy in this situation. But if I know them really well, like they are good friends of mine, then I get something special for the child.

Things sure have changed. When I trick or treated, it was only kids up to age 12 or so that went out. When I was a teen we didn't trick or treat (and we didn't go out destroying things either). Now it does seem to be kids of all ages, adults in college and maybe even Grandma! ;)

I have mixed feelings about this. I love seeing the little kids in their cute costumes but I'm not as thrilled about the older teens that don't have costumes and say absolutely nothing. The early group will be mostly small kids and then we'll probably run out before too late. Last year we got a ton of trick or treaters!

i only wish i could split myself in half for the night. i love passing out candy to the kids, but i also love taking my daughter out trick or treating. my older son and his friends will also be trick or treating, my only concern is he remembers his thank yous.
