Soooo....the dreaded Disney snowball has hit my family!! :scared1: We started our DLR family fun in Oct. 2006. Both DH and I had been when we were kids, but not when we were married and had kids. We took our family of 4 boys to DLR and had a blast - even though I had yet to find the DIS and didn't know that we were going at a really busy time and totally missed the Trick or Treat party. We had ride max and it was helpful and we learned how to use Fast pass the first time around and that was great.

We had such a great time that DH decided that he and I needed to go for my 40th birthday which was the next August - so we went in Sept. after Labor Day since neither of us wanted to go in Aug. We had a BLAST. It just reaffirmed to us that we SHOULD have gone to DLR for our honeymoon like we talked about.

Next trip was March of 2008 before our oldest son left the US to go to Taiwan. So we went with our very best friends and their 2 kids, our 4 kids and my parents. We had a huge group. It was so much fun. We had the 5 days for the price of three promo and did the beach since our friends last name is Huntington, we, of course, went to Huntington Beach! We love the beach, since even though we live in Utah, we are West Coast people. Born and/or raised in Nor. Cal.

The problem with going in March was that that wasn't really the plan - we were originally supposed to go later on in Dec. 2008 with the same big group, minus our oldest son. Well..... we really wanted to go in Dec. and see all of the decorations and enjoy the holiday spirit and see IASW with the Christmas decorations, etc., etc!

So, we pulled it off, we went in December, too. DH got a lump sum cost of living adjustment in July 2008 and that added to a little savings allowed us to go to DLR in Dec. But, ohhhhh, how I wished we had AP's!!! Tickets are so expensive. It was a great time, but I am not totally in love with going in Dec. I don't think it helped my Christmas spirit at all. I know it works for some people, but it didn't for me. I just felt out of rhythm for Christmas and a little grumpy about that. I felt behind the whole month! :crazy2:

Here comes the snowball part...:rolleyes1 Because of some things that happened on our Dec. trip, DH and I decided we wanted a DO-Over trip. Ohhhh how I wished I would have gone with my gut instinct and gotten those Costco AP's! We are surprising our 3 boys with a trip right after they are out of school the end of May. We will definitely be buying AP's because we plan to go again in Sept. because DH and I liked that time of year soooo much, we want to go again then.

Now, we have a friend who is going with his wife and 2 little boys to DLR the end of Feb. They stay with family and get the So. Cal tickets - his mom gets them for him. (Lucky!) He is willing to pick up our Costco AP's for us if we can find a store that has them when he is there. :upsidedow He will bring them back to us and we will activate them before May 31st since we will be at DLR May 25-30.

The snowball has hit my family and hit it hard. Who knew that a simple Fall break trip to DLR would have spawned such Disney Fanatics! My little kids talk about going to Disneyland every day and my 12 yr. old says he could never get tired of going. Ohhhh, we've got it baaaaddd at my house! :lmao:

Nice to have a new member in the club!

Welcome to the club. Our "one" trip in April 06 became another in July 07, which became Deluxe APs which became Christmas gifted Deluxe Costco APs which are trying to become Premium APs......LOL Seriously, it is a snowball but it's soooooo worth it!! I hope you can get the Costco APs! :)

Oh boy, are YOU in the right place!! I went from once-a-year to 5 times this year thanks to APs :rotfl2: It's amazing how that happens. Luckily, we have families that are into it also.

I'm so comforted by your story!

Our trip last August with 8 day park hoppers led to getting Deluxe AP's - of course thinking that we would go again in the summer of 2009. Well, we ended up going in December because airfare was so cheap, HoJo's is cheap, and the Christmas decorations were not be be missed. Which has now led us to another trip next month for DH's birthday..again cheap airfare, etc.

My friends think we are FREAKS! :scared1: :scared1:

But, all of you help me realize I'm not! Well, maybe I am (we are) but at least I have company! :rotfl2:

LOL!

We took the family in August 2007, but my 2 y/o freaked out about everything until THE VERY LAST RIDE she went on (IASW, FTR ;) ) Hubby and I decided we had to take her back so we could have a do-over! We snuck back in October of 2007 for the weekend. It was a much better experience.

I also agree that September (or October) is a great time to go! The weather is great, and the crowds are decent too.

Oh no, not the snowball! :rotfl: I won't give my whole snowball story since I posted it on the original "snowball effect" thread but basically it started with a one night trip to Sea World for DH and I and it ended up with DH, DS and myself all getting DLR APs! I always swore I would never take my child in a stroller to DL and would wait until my child was tall enough to ride everything but we threw all that out the window because the DL forces were too great to resist any longer! :rotfl2:

It is so nice to know I am not alone in my obsession - ummmm Passion for DLR. We have friends that think we are freaks also and always ask us how come we want to go to Disneyland AGAIN! Errr.. Duh! because we love, love, love it.

I knew if I posted my story you would understand. I read the original snowball thread and loved the stories I read there. I just had been able to resist the snowball, until now! :scared:

Yes, we know people like that too. They just don't get it. They think it's just about the rides and think it would get boring going very often but there is so much to see and do there. And so many hidden things to discover.

Ask them why they go to the beach..or whatever..every year. We have inlaws who do AI Mexico EVERY year..and yes, it is nice, but I think they do it because alcohol is free!

Oh yes, you will fit right in here, with the rest of the Obsessed..ummm Addicted.....ummmm passionate about Disneylanders. LOL

Oh Lordy boys and girls...I could have written all of these posts myself! :thumbsup2

I was actually thinking this morning that I need to set up a thread called: "Disneyland Addict Support Group" or something like that. :grouphug:

I MUST MUST MUST talk about DL every single-ingle day or I go NUTS!!

I am driving DH crazy...but he loves it too, but he grew up in S.Cal and went a lot as a kid.
As you can see from my siggy, I've only been twice--once in 1985, and once last Fall Break (Oct. 2008--first time as a mommy seeing my kids' excitement!) and that little "maybe once or twice, but we'll wait till they get older" trip has TOTALLY BECOME MY SNOWBALL!! :sad2: :p :hyper: ::yes::

I want to have a new trip to count down to every single time we finally go on the trip that I've been looking forward to for so long...! :hyper:

I couldn't believe how totally DEPRESSED  I was when I got back from DL in October, cause at that time we had planned only to go once a year, in Oct.
Well, as you can see by my ticker...I managed to finangle another trip this March :cheer2: --there was NO WAY IN HADES that I could wait a WHOLE FREAKIN' year to go back!!

Now, I'm trying to figure out how to win the lottery or some sweepstakes so that we can go back again in May...
and October...
and December...
and again and again and again! :rotfl2:

That's why I LOOOOOOVE these boards!! My daily Disney fix!! :goodvibes

Oh yes, we have the Disney addiction big time. We get AP's every other year (WDW on the off years) and our trips are getting bigger and bigger. We started pricelining rooms, then went to HoJo's (when the Entertainment rate was $45), tried GCH and that was a big Oh NO! After staying at GCH its so hard to go back to HoJo's.

We've bought DVC and are going to be buying at VGC in a month or so. Disney addiction is oh so fun but oh so expensive!!

We will definitely be buying AP's

Finally!

I just had been able to resist the snowball, until now! :scared:

NO, the snowball was in effect the whole time. But now it will be CHEAPER, b/c you're getting APs and won't be paying scads for each set of tickets (plus the discount on food!).

I certainly hope you have APs!

I'm with Molly, I hope you got APs!!!

Molly is RIGHT - as usual. We are FINALLY getting AP's! It would have been cheaper to feed our addiction all along if we had them sooner. But, DH and I always said to each other - we have so much else we could use the money for - ya know? For instance, DH is from San Francisco so we talk about going there a lot and food is a big part of the reason (can't get good chinese in Utah unless we make it ourselves), but we always seem to end up at DLR making those magical memories with our kids! The only bummer for us at DL is the lack of really good food. One of these days when our littles are bigger we will venture to WDW to experience dining AND disney together. So we venture to non-tourist places when we are in OC and try different things to feed our foodie mind-set! :upsidedow

Welcome to the club! :cool1: Our snowball got bigger when our two day DLR trip just staying at my sisters house turned into three days, a hotel, and APs. Our several day visit for our 20th anniversy in June has turned into an entire week and I can't wait!

I warn you, if you thought the pull of DLR was strong before, that is nothing compared to the pull of APs! May the force be with you! :rotfl:

We pretty much had a snowball hit us back in 2000. None of my family had ever been to Disneyland but ever since that first trip we have made it back annually for the last 8 years and I am hopeful that we will be back again this fall. We haven't been able to manage as many trips as you have but even once a year is good enough for me.

I think you may be the first person who ever mentioned the same feeling that I had the first time we went in December. When we got back, Christmas had come and gone and I felt like I had missed the whole spirit of Christmas, at least at home! However, I do truly love the Christmas season at DL so I have got to find some way to over come feeling so rushed when we get back! Maybe decorate our home in September or something. My DH had the idea to do Christmas at DL so I wouldn't have to go through decorating, wrapping and all the stuff that made me feel so out of sorts. I haven't decided exactly what I think of that yet. I really love a traditional Christmas at home but then again not having to do all that work sounds pretty good. Even if we don't go in December we would go in November which still doesn't leave much time when we get back. That suggestion to do Christmas in the park is sounding better all the time!

My kids don't talk about DL EVERDAY but someone usually mentions it at least once a week. I was so happy when my teenage son recently said that he wouldn't want to change our plans and miss going to Disneyland! Me, well, I am a different story. I am on the boards everyday with DL on the brain!

Another freak here! But who cares! I can't think of anywhere else we would rather go. APs are the only way to go even if you only go once a year. We just make sure that we get back before they expire the next year. Since we stay 2 weeks, even if we only take 2 trips a year on our AP that's a month worth of DL at a bargain price! Plus we get our claim to fame of being an AP.

This is an amazing site! When my son was 18 months we went before my DH deployed and had such a ball just WATCHING him and doing ONLY little people stuff we had to go back when he got home 8 months later, then again the following year. We left the country for three years but since coming back in 2007 we have been twice, introducing our daughter to Disney and having such a great time (taking all advice into consideration from everyone has made it SO EASY and WAY MORE FUN!) Now my 7 year old aspergers ride fanatic and 3 year old princess chick have THE BUG. I am planning our next trip right now, especially with this military special going on. I am only sorry to be moving this summer again but not to worry we are moving to Melbourne, FL! (An hour and a half away from WDW :p) Thanks for your help guys!:thumbsup2

Marie, I thought I was the only one who wasn't that delighted with coming home from DLR and being so rushed for Christmas. My DH and I were talking about it and maybe we need to go in Nov. before Thanksgiving and after the decorations are put up. Then I can still be ready for Christmas in Dec. and miss the Thanksgiving crowds. I loved the decorations and the fireworks and parade.

Good idea about the AP's and going once a year, but twice before your AP expires! :thumbsup2
