Maybe it's just me, but I sense a LOT of anticipation for the Drawf Mine Train. I think it's been a long while since Disney dropped an awesome ride on us (this while US has done HP) and it feels like there is a pent up hunger for something really cool.
And it seems like everyone is waiting for DMT, and even though we know it's a kids coaster (given placement in Fantasyland) I still feel like people are unconsciously anticipating something awesome.
I know that I can't quite help myself and sort of unconsciously am expecting something really cool.
Could it be crazy amazing? Yes.
But that seems unlikely.
I wonder if we're just setting ourselves up for disappointment by expecting too much.
The entire Fantasyland feels like a bad copy of WWOHP. Disney is at it's best when it works with an original idea. DHS was in response to Universal. AK created to steal some of Busch Garden's ideas. What does Fantasyland have? A forced perspective castle (Hogwarts), Enchanted Tales (Ollivaners), and Gaston's Tavern, complete with Disney's version of butter beer (Three Broomsticks). Yes, there is also Ariel, but she is a duplicate ride from DCA.
Now we have SDMC. Disney's answer to Gringotts. And no, I never expected it to be a thrill ride. I expected it to have the length and detail of a headliner like Radiator Springs Racers.
I'm having trouble deciding on if we should keep the Mine Train fastpass for opening day or not. My problem is the time is for 10:00pm-11:00pm. We wont be able to get any extra fastpasses except what is available at the end of the day. I wonder how crowded the line will be say around 11:00 pm for SDMT ? So should we keep the fastpass for the Mine Train or cancel it in hopes of riding SB late that night ? Any advice here will would be great![]()
I would definitely keep your FP+! I think it'd be nice to know you could ride it. And how cool on opening day!

I don't think you get the point of the rides in Disney. They are family friendly for all ages. I would love to take my son to Universal but because of the height restrictions and the level of some of the coasters he would not be able to ride them even though he is 7 he is small for his age. And what is the point of going if he can't ride the rides with me. Disney offers rides that most kids of all ages can and will do. If you looking for a thrill park then you go do Universal if your looking for a family experience then you go to Disney. I'm not looking at sdmt for a thrill ride, I am looking at it as a chance to experience something through the eyes of my child, with all its whimsy i am sure Disney will provide a amazing experience again.
No question. Keep the FP. You'll get to ride even fewer things if you end up in a 2 hour line for this. Opening day is going to be crazy.
Agree. Even if park is busier that day due to opening day of SDMT, you could do a few things easily while not standing in line. Actually being you will be there so late many of the rides wait times will go down. Example is ETWB. It is normally a long wait but I have read reports of close to closing they have to wait and gather the minimum people just to do ETWB.

DD, a cast member, just rode it yesterday and said it was a little disappointing. She believes it's because of all the hype.
But in all, she said it's a fun ride and will do it again.
I would keep the FP if I had one for opening day.
