Has anyone ever taken this at the beginning of the day to avoid motion sickness on rides? I get nausea on the tea cups and rides that spin really fast, but want to experience them with my husband and two peanuts for the first time.

Do you fall asleep during the day? I just bought the "less-drowsy" formula.

Thanks :flower:

I take Less Drowsy Dramamine every morning when I'm at the parks. It never makes me feel drowsy at all. Without it, I couldn't handle a lot of the rides. With it, I still can't do things like Astro Orbiter. I take half of a tablet every morning. I tried Bonine once, since so many people here seem to love it, but it made me very jittery.

I strongly suggest you try taking dramamine at home before you leave. While it does nothing to me, it knocks my daughter out. Does different things to different people. I would hate for you to spend part of the day snoring on a park bench while your family was having a blast without you ;)

I take the non drowsy formula. It doesn't bother me as far as making me sleepy, but there are still things that I have to be careful about like the teacups, just don't spin them too much, astro orbitor is ok but a little iffy, no way will I ever get on mission space again. It is different for everyone, but I do find that it has helped me. I take it each morning before we enter the park. Try not to drink too much soda either. :earsgirl:

I've tried dramamine and bonine and have found that the best thing for me is a fanny pack full of peanut butter crackers. I eat one or two after each potentially hurling ride and it works wonders. Yes, I know it's the salt but I would look pretty funny walking around the park sucking on a salt shaker :rotfl2:

Dramamine KNOCKS ME OUT! Seriously, I took a half of a tablet (the less drowsy kind) right before we entered Disneyland 4 years ago. By the time I made it to Aurora's castle, I could harly walk. I don't rememer anything from that day. I slept in the car for like 3 hours while my DH and friends had a blast. Then when I got up and started walking around, I was a zombie. I would definelty try it out at home before you try it at the park.

Dramamine always knocks me out. The only thing I have been able to use is the "patch", which you get from a dr...that is the only thing I have been able to use for motion sickness that didn't have any side effects.

I take meclizine before going to avoid getting vertigo. I have some problem in my ears that causes it. ENT says he doesn't really know but likely some crystals floating around and getting where they shouldn't be.

Meclizine is basically the same infact I think the actual active med is the same. They are for same thing and I find it is less drowsy than even the less drowsy Dramamine. ;)

You can usually ask the pharmacist for it sometimes they keep it behind the counter and in larger quanities.

I take Dramamine EVERY DAY - riding or not it helps with all the "commotion" that is at the parks. I would be sick as a dog without it!!

I plan to take the non-drowsy Dramamine. I take it whenever I go to an amusement park. Last year when at a park I had to take the regular Dramamine because I was nursing dd, and it didn't knock me out, but I did really notice myself dragging through the day. This year the non-drowsy formula didn't make me sleepy at all, but was maybe a tad less effective at controlling the motion sickness. I'll just have to watch what I ride, in addition to the medicine.

Watch out for taking Bonine (or dramamine perhaps) w/alchohol! Neither one usually makes me sleepy, but last trip i made the mistake of trying out a Norwegian beer at the restaurant in Norway, and I slept right through the American experience, and most of the Canadian thing as well. Didn't even see it coming, the light went down, and then my wife was shaking me and saying it was over. I felt groggy for a while after as well. never do that again!

My husband got motion sickness the first day and had to return to the room. As soon as he started feeling a little better he put on a patch that we had gotten for our cruise from the doctor. It worked wonderful and he was able to enjoy the remainder of the vacation. If you have time before you leave ask the doctor for the motion sickness patch. Usually they will call something like that into your pharmacy without requiring a visit. It will not leave you drowsy as many of the over the counter product do.

I agree with the poster who said to try it first before you go. Everyone has different reactions to meds. You may or may not like how u feel while on it, and if it doesn't work well for u you don't want to find out while on vacation. Good Luck.
