I am somewhat new to posting, as this is my first dining report. I have read many dining reports and trip reports and have always wanted to post my own. As the trip got closer I told my DH that this was the year I was going to start! So here goes nothing!
The Cast:
The Swedish Chef, AKA my husband Josh. While his name on the boards is MrToad, I am referring to him as the Swedish Chef for this report not only because he loves that hilarious Muppet (and all Muppets-hence the name of this report) but also because he is our chef. He graciously cooks just about every meal for us and does a wonderful job!
Me: Christy, Monorail lover, Orange bird lover and FOOD LOVER! Basically anything with cheese and I am sold! Apparently my DH informed me that with a Muppet themed title I should refer to myself as the most important female Muppet. However I am somewhat unwilling to call myself a swine for the entire report (although our eating tendencies may suggest otherwise). I was looking forward to this trip so much, and I could not wait to get down there and eat like you can only eat in WDW!
Mother in Law, Pat and Father in Law, Bill
We were so excited to share this trip with them. However most of the pictures and reviews will come from my dear Swedish chef and I. I did not want to hold up 4 peoples delicious meals with my photography before each meal so I focused mainly on what the Chef and I were eating. I will from time to time include a few of their dishes for fun!!
It should also be known that being two former college program interns at WDW, my DH and I are not quick to judge or criticize ANY of the cast members or food down there. Especially for me since my role was in Full Service Food and Beverage, I hesitate to criticize restaurants or servers. Almost all of the time our opinions are quite bias because its Disney, we love it and it takes A LOT for us to find something to complain about down there. So just a fair warning that most of our reviews will be about how incredible it all was! Plus it was a free dining week so if its free- it has to be good!
Now, lets get to the food!!!
I decided to spare all of your with our 5am breakfast at the airport. All that you need to know is that it was airport food and NOT Disney food, so not nearly as exciting as what was to come.
We got to the Caribbean Beach Resort (it was my first time spending a whole week there and I was so excited) and of course we were famished from our morning of traveling. Our rooms were not ready yet so we decided to head right to the Magic Kingdom after a quick lunch at the Old Port Royale.
The Swedish Chef had stayed here a number of times when he was younger and then again as a teenager with his friends, and he was really excited to get the chicken nuggets from the food court. I took his advice, and got the same.
I thought the chicken was really tasty, I always feel like that on the first meal. Does anyone else feel that way? After traveling like that you could feed me just about anything and I would be thrilled. Those nuggets and fries hit the spot!!
We got different desserts though, I got one of my favorite snacks and my traditional first treat of the trip:
We have been trying to eat healthier, smaller meals and just maintain a better diet for the past few months. So I noticed right away that I was not able to nearly as much of my meal as I would have been able to in previous years. Because of all of this I actually have to commit the shameful act of wrapping up half of this and putting it in my bag for a snack later on. Even thought I had to save part, rice krispie treat was sticky and delicious!!
And DH started off a week of cupcakes and muffin with this:
Chocolate cupcake and "regular" icing, he referred to it as "just a plain cupcake" yet he said that it was very good, moist and tasty apparently.
Yummy, yummy!! All in all- good food and a great way to refresh and to get us prepared to head off to the Magic Kingdom!!
Next up: Dinner at Tony's Town Square!!
