Our school celebrates Dr. Seuss' birthday every year with cupcakes and juice for the entire school. We are looking at the idea of making an entire week's worth of activities for the students with each day based on a different Dr. Seuss book. Here are the ideas we have so far:

Cat in the Hat--Wear a crazy hat

Fox in Sox--wear crazy socks or mismatched socks

The Sleep book/I Will Not Get Out of Bed Today--Wear pajamas

Hop on Pop--Bring Dad to school (like the first or last period of school, maybe even at lunch)

The Lorax--Bring a book from home to swap with a classmate

Can anyone else think of any more ideas based on Dr. Seuss books? The school is pretty lenient, so pretty much anything would fly with the principal. Thanks for your help!

My son's school has always done Green Eggs and Ham and they make Green Eggs for the kids. They always seem to love it.
I would probably stay clear of the Bring Dad to School as not everyone would be able to participate (work, maybe no Dad in the picture, or in my son's case health issue would prevent his dad from coming) and you wouldn't want the kids to feel bad.

The Lorax: Plant a tree seedling somewhere on the school grounds.

One Fish, Two Fish, etc.: Bring in Swedish Fish. Then make fishing poles out of dowel rods or something and attach a magnet as the "hook." Cut out fish shapes and put a paperclip on each one, lay them on the floor and let the kids fish with the magnets.

Horton Hears a who: Let the kids dress as elephants (homemade costumes, not expensive store bought).

Any book: Have the kids read one book and then do a presentation to the class where they use their own ideas to bring the book alive. Non-graded, just fun. They can do or teach a craft, wear a costume, etc.

The Foot Book. Each kid traces his foot and then your decorate the tracings and display in the room.

For the Lorax, instead of planting a tree seedling (which I do love but some schools may not have the room) plant seeds in each class in clear cups and watch them grow. :)

Star Belly Sneeches, make stars and hang them around the room.

left foot right foot... have a different sock/show on each foot.

There are others I have heard, but I can't remember them right now, will post if I can. :)
