I had mother/son time last night while Dr Phil was on tv.
What happened? Details please? What exactly was talked about? Do we need seperate threads?
Thank you

HI,
I watched last night and he told about his 7 steps for being healthy. Basically he says (and anyone correct me if I'm wrong) but if you make the choice to be healthy, get rid of any temptation in your house, make a conscious act to exercise and don't be around people that will be a bad influence, but to be around supportive people, then slowly but surely you'll become fitter and healthier. He also talked about replacing one habit with another, like if you come home through the kitchen door and start eating, try going in the front door and taking a shower instead. It also had tidbits like, one glazed donut every day=30 pounds and one can of regular soda is 15pounds per year. The soda one is my downfall for sure.
Hope it helps!

didnt that Soda stat just put you over the edge??? WOW 15 pounds just because of a soda!

dont drink much cola but I love Sierra Mist and drink one every couple of days but I think I will be switching to diet from now on

He has some great points!

I bought his book and am 50 pages into it. Its one of those things where you smack yourself on the forehead and think " DUH!!! Why didnt I think of that?" Its common sense that actually makes sense! lol

There are a few threads here that talk about it. Ill write more if you want it, Im a convert ;)

I watched it and found a lot of what he said to be good advice and "duh!" common sense, too! However, I felt like he gave superficial solutions to his guests. He didn't talk at all about how difficult it is for some people to live in a constant state of hunger because their biological makeup isn't sending the proper signals between the stomach, fat cells and brain. He did say people with genetic predisposition towards weight gain have to work harder and may never be thin the way they wish.

The other thing that bothered me was how he said to do something else in your impulse window and then the impulse will pass. My impulse window is bedtime. It is so hard for me to go to bed without a snack (and the snack can often get out of hand). I've tried bubble baths, reading instead of TV, etc. but my impuse doesn't seem to pass!

Overall I thought it was really good and very informative. I think I will buy the book.

I agree with the short answers I really hope he went into more detail off camera.

The book is great!

I rejoined WISH last week and LOVE Dr Phil. I have watched every one of his shows. Most of these ideas he has said already and make perfect sense, but I wasn't ready to make the changes.

I know that the following is a cop-out statement and obviously I can CHOOSE to make changes, BUT.....

It irks me a bit to hear him say that he changed his behavior by bypassing the kitchen on his way from tennis and beat his "grazing". Well, when you're the mom, you can't bypass the kitchen when you need to feed everyone else!
