(I don't recommend bringing what you can actually get on the ship which is Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite & Dr Pepper)

OK.. I got this from the thread re: Coke vs. Pepsi... is it true? Anyone know? I had read no DP on board..

I'll be soooooo happy if there is!!

Well DP is a coke product so pretty sure it's on the ship but if you really can't go without make a grocery stop and fill up the room fridge :D

We've been on 10 Magic cruises....I've never seen Dr. Pepper (regular or diet) on the ship. I bring a 12 pack for DD. It's way cheaper than the soda package, and she has the diet DP that she likes. Dining room sodas are coke, diet coke and sprite. I'm not aware of any others.

Dr. Pepper is not available on board. It is actually an independant bottling company and is distributed by Pepsi. Coke has a similar product, Mr. Pibb, which is also not available on the ship.

The only soft drinks were Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite (I think there might have been orange soda or something like that) then you have lemonade and fruit punch.

well you learn something new every day , could have sworn it was a coke product. Thanks SueEllen

Traycie2201 and SueEllen--

I think you are both correct. Dr. Pepper is made by an independent company. It belongs to neither Coca-Cola nor Pepsi.

However, depending on the area, it may be distributed by either. In some locations, such as here in Florida, it is distributed by Pepsi. In other locations it is distributed by Coca-Cola.

One thing is for sure, however, it is not offered on Disney Cruise Line.

Guess DD and DH are wrong then, they SWEAR they drank DP on the ship last November....

Hmmm...

I wonder if perhaps DCL does have a limited supply of Dr. Pepper in cans? I know that they do carry some less-commonly-requested soda variations in cans (say diet, caffeine-free Coke) that are available for an extra cost. Perhaps Dr. Pepper is among that selection?

that's cool if that's the case --- but if that is the case, then I would recommend bringing onboard what sodas you "need" that DCL does not "normally" have in stock. :)

:(

No Dr. Pepper.. that's what I thought originally, but then I read the post elsewhere. But that's ok.. I need to cut back on the DP anyway! Too many calories!! Maybe if I can go a week without I will totally break the habbit! I've tried switching to Lemonade but no such luck.. maybe this is what it will take!

Thanks for all the posts!

I knew DP was an independent company.. being a huge DP fan you find these things out when you travel some.

Guess I'll go into withdraws.. but maybe I'll make it if I have the distraction of the Disney experience!!

:hyper: :hyper:

Dr. Pepper is distributed by Coke NOT by Pepsi!!

Actually, like I mentioned in my previous post, it is distributed by both companies. It depends on location.

Mr. Pibb is distributed by Coke and only coke. Dr. Pepper is independent.

Sorry I didn't mean to start a debate!

:wave2:

Here is some interesting info on the breakdown of distribution percentage for Dr. Pepper and some other interesting facts about the product:

"Dr Pepper is owned by Dr Pepper / Seven Up Inc a subsidiary of the Cadbury PLC trading on the NYSE [as CSG -- Chris F.]. Dr Pepper is distributed throughout the country by a variety of some very dedicated bottlers who without them, the Dr Pepper brand would not be where it is today. Coke, Pepsi, and RC bottlers sell Dr Pepper; it all depends on who owns the franchise in a specific geographic area. The breakdown is about 30% Coke, 40% Pepsi, 20% [other? He didn't say -- Chris F.] and some who just sell Dr Pepper......like our friends in Dublin."

In December, 1998, Coca-Cola caused a stir by paying Cadbury-Schweppes $1.85 billion for the right to distribute Cadbury-Schweppes sodas (including Dr Pepper) in 120 countries, but the United States was not one of them (neither were France or South Africa). So, in the U.S., Dr Pepper will still be distributed by whoever has the local franchise rights, meaning that there will still be places where Coke doesn't own the franchise and will continue to sell Mr. Pibb (and possibly another brand--see question 2.4) to compete. And--just so no one gets confused--Cadbury Schweppes still owns Dr Pepper. You'd be surprised how quickly rumors get started from news like this.

Thanks for that info--I know that Dr. Pepper here is definitely distributed by Pepsi (you can get the cubes of it on sale with the Pepsi sales)

ksumom--I'm with you. Being a DP fan knowing it's an independant company comes second nature--especially when you are traveling and looking for it.

Definitely not on the ship though, or in the Disney parks or restaurants.

And here I thought Dr Pepper was still owned by the pharmacy in Waco, TX. Learn something every day.

Where I live, Dr. Pepper is, amazingly, distributed by Dr. Pepper Of Sacramento.
They also bottle R-C, Diet Riet and Squirt. R-C is in the same boat as Dr. Pepper nationally, independent distributors.

I am pretty sure that is no Dr. Pepper on board.

Being from Texas, and being the Dr. Pepper is the "state drink" of Texas, I can tell you that it is made by Dr. Pepper.
Three Circles is right, it is distributed by other bottling companies. Here in TX, it is only distributed by DP. We have DP bottling companies all over. We even have a DP museum and everything.
Years ago, when DH and I would travel to FL, we had to bring DP with us. We couldn't find it anywhere, even in the stores. Since then, we have kicked our habit and now drink water. But DP is so yummy!

Dr. Pepper is Independent and has deals wit both Coke and Pepsi.
In NC as well as NY and most of the East Coast.
The Canned/Bottle End is handled by Coke.
However the Fountain side of it is By Pepsi.
Hence , Taco Bell , KFC and other Fast food Chains that have Pepsi have Dr Pepper.

And No pretty sure it is not on Board.
