Dr. Jones and the Spitting Camel - Link to Alaska Cruise TR 9/18

It wasn’t rope drop, which for those of you paying attention we actually hadn’t made yet, but it wasn’t bad either.
It was EMH at DHS and even though TSM was down, we wanted to get there early and beat the heat. Who were we? Well…we were four. Jeff, myself, and the E’s. Teens and grandparents wanted to sleep, or at least that was the story at bedtime the night before. We said fine, we’ll meet up for lunch, back at Hurricane Hannahs and have some nice pool time.

Win-win, right?

With that plan in mind we headed out and decided a boat ride would be the way to go. We were at the dock at about 8:15 so for us, doing quite well!
It was HOT already as we walked up and waited for the boat. Killing time, I took a few pictures.

I wasn’t really all that trigger happy mind you, I hadn’t had much coffee. Rather I had a long wait, we were there for 30 minutes waiting for that boat which honestly, surprised us at that hour. I think Evan was hiding in the shade, inside the lighthouse. FINALLY we got on the boat. Not that 30 minutes is really all that awful but 2 hyper kids, 2 caffeine deprived adults, early morning heat and brightness, and it wass omehow far more painful than really it should have been.

Finally we were on our way.

Kouzzina! See you soon! We had dinner reservations there for the next night and we were all looking forward to it.

Ah, some inside AC and nice window glare!

My lens is steamy!

IMG_5861.jpg

What did we do? Well, after the long boat ride (not really), it was VERY clear the adults needed coffee, the kids needed sweets. We had a destination in mind. It took us by an earlier stop.

No real reason to take this picture other than I think I realized I hadn’t, when we’d actually eaten here earlier in the trip, so took one now

IMG_5862.jpg

It was not where we were headed…instead, our new home away from home…

IMG_5863.jpg

Yep. The front nook at the Writers Stop.

Caffeinated and with a few yummy pastries in our belly, we decided to check out some Jedi’s. Though it was the first session of the day, the E’s were too far back and didn’t make the cut. We did stay to watch the show.

However, I was so far back I didn’t even bother attempting shots, instead just enjoyed watching the kids who had made it in, and the expressions on mine as they watched. I also enjoyed the rest of my coffee in peace…always a good thing!

Now where is where the morning gets funny. There is a solid 2 hours where I didn’t take a single picture. I know we went on Star Tours, in fact we deliberately slid in there before the Jedi training ended, to beat the rush. I know we did Muppets and the Great Movie Tour. A very funny thing about the GMT. Jeff, for some reason, really thought he’d never been on it. I of course knew differently but figured we might get a different side. No such luck, and mid way through he’s like “I’ve been on this before”….but we still enjoyed it. Somehow all of that ate up 2 hours. Maybe we did TOT? I’m not sure, though it is probable.

At some point we got word that the rest of the clan was up and getting ready.

We did ride on a limo, that much I know for sure.

No clue what Eric is doing in that last shot with his hands. :rotfl:

By the time we finished RRC is was getting close to noon and we were ready for lunch.

Continued in next post

Somewhere in here we got a text.

“Going out for breakfast”

Whaaaaaaaaaaaa????

Going OUT?

Ummm….we are heading back for lunch! We are supposed to be meeting for lunch!

“We are hungry now, and Paul wants breakfast”
Hang on, we are on our way.

Except they didn’t.

Hang on.

In fact, they were already AT breakfast when they sent us the message.

Technically though, they ended up AT lunch. Breakfast was over by the time they got down there. So Paul’s breakfast dreams were dashed again and they ended up having lunch at the Captain’s Grille. And using their DDP credits for. You know the ones, the TS credit’s that were “spoken for” with all the ADR’s? Used them up on themselves AND K&T, on lunches of all things, wasting 4 great dinner credits on a lunch that it sounds like was mostly burgers. That they could have gotten at HH had they waited another 20 minutes, and used CS credits for. Not that we were bitter. Or annoyed and upset. Not to mention the fact that I’d really wanted to have breakfast there myself and had canceled a ressie as people wanted to sleep in. The ressie hadn’t been for that morning and it had been planned to be an OOP meal but still, it rankled.

We texted back

DON’T USE YOUR DINING CREDITS!

But of course, either they didn’t get the text, or they ignored it, as they definitely did use the credits. Thankfully K&T did not have their cards that had their credits on them so those were protected. Jeff was NOT happy as at the moment, we weren't sure if they had them or not. I am pretty sure as a result, we did a couple more things at DHS but what, I can’t recall.

Just then, it started to drizzle. Time to go anyway. So we did. But this time, we walked.

And you know what? That august steamy drizzle, on a walk was JUST the ticket to calm frazzled, hurt and annoyed adults. It was a lovely lovely walk. Almost empty and barely raining at all. We decided to take our time. After all, no one was waiting for us. Raining enough that I didn’t take pictures, which now I really regret. It was SO lovely! I can’t wait to do that walk again. In fact, I may refuse to get on the boat to DHS in May. Given how long we’d waited in the morning, the walk back was actually faster!
While we’d originally planned on lunch at HH, given that no one else had it on their agenda, it really opened up our options. So we putzed, and poked and peeked, looking in at all of the boardwalk options as they presented themselves.

First, we looked at getting a beer from Big River but…they were not in a to go state of mind. Next we peeked into Seashore Sweets but, not wanting to buy and carry right before lunch, we decided that wasn’t the best option.

Next to Kouzzina, Boardwalk Pizza beckoned but, since they didn’t take CS credits there, it wasn’t really a lunch option. It was, however, a great to go beer option! So we ordered 2 “drifters” which as best I can recall was a local microbrew. It was delicious!

The drizzle drove us into Boardwalk bakery and the lunch options sang their sirens song to us. 2 Caprese’s(Mozzarella Tomato) and 2 Ham and cheese panini’s, chips, brownies, and other desserts(like cheesecake!) a few drinks for the kids, bottled water for the adults, and we were good to go.

Thanks to the light drizzle, there wasn’t a shortage of outside seating, though in reality there isn’t that much of it right there. We sat, enjoyed our lunch and the peace and quiet. And…to be honest, enjoyed being a little bit non-responsive to a few texts we were getting. Yes, it was childish but we were a bit put out. Amazing how food can help!

We continued our lazy stroll, finally communicating back that we were done with our lunch and heading up to change and hit the pool with them. As we strolled by the Beach Club, who should approach us, but a Photopass photographer!

He took this shot first.

Yes. Eric had a brownie for dessert! The frame seemed appropriate.
I wiped off his face after we stopped howling. And took a few group shots.

Photo session over, we headed up to the room to change and hopefully swim and actually see the rest of our family. Who were all back from their lunch, laying around in the room, in some kind of post lunch coma. Including a cranky teen who’d apparently been telling grandma all morning how bored he was and how he’d already seen and done everything here and the only thing he REALLY wanted to do was to ride TSM again (Which we all know how that went down…especially since he hadn’t told anyone until 8pm the night before it closed) and to eat at the Rainforest Grill. Which apparently was his FAVORITE place ever. Except he’d never told us that. Or mentioned it at all. Ever. As in we didn’t know he’d ever been there, heard of it, ever. nor, of course had he mentioned, or acted "bored" until Grandma arrived to whine to.

Would the pool cool us all off or would the drizzle dash our dreams of pool time? Would the rest of the gang even see a park? Would we throw Taylor in Crescent Lake?

Some Gin Rummy up next!

Holy cow what a morning!!!!

I did that walk from DHS all the way to Epcot and you know... It was not that bad. I was waiting at DHS for a boat and finally gave up and of course as I get to the pathentrance, I see it approach. I made it to EPCOT a few minutes before the boat did.

I can only imagine you reading that text and the frantic text back about the credits. I can only hope that their late arrival on the first day saved a couple of credits.

So glad you could make the time to cool off ( somewhat literally) and eat so you could deal with those who choose to rewrite the plans.

Ouch. Sorry to read that your well-thought-out plans for using the dining credits were being dashed. And that Taylor had some "must-do's" that had gone unvoiced up until now. I'm afraid I'd have trouble working up any sympathy for someone who was bored, but didn't get up until noon.

At least it sounds like you were able to get some things done at DHS. Where's the general vicinity of the Writer's Stop?

I love that you started your morning at the Writer's Stop. We must try that front nook this summer! Well, that you went there after waiting forever for a boat.

Sounds like you managed quite a few rides that morning at DHS, but what a bummer that the other four used dining credits for lunch. :headache:

I love, love, love the pictures of the four of you on the Boardwalk. So cute! I had to laugh over the picture of Eric with brownie all over his face. Connor sometimes looks like that, too, after eating chocolate of any sort. They do eventually outgrow that, right? :lmao:

I vote for throwing Taylor in Crescent Lake. Well, maybe not, but it is infuriating when kids decide to try and get the sympathy vote from the grandparents by playing the "Oh, woe is me!" card. :sad2:

Oh my! I would have had a meltdown over the dining credits! Oy!! Not sure if they just didn't listen and/or didn't appreciate how precisely everything is planned out and accounted for. But either way, how inconsiderate!

I LOVE the walk b/w DHS and Boardwalk/Beach Club. So much so, in fact, that I'm not sure I've ever been on the bus. Sometimes I do that loop "speedwalking" in the morning for exercise. Sure wish I could roll out of bed and do that this morning!!

Sure looks hot. Can see the steam in some of your shots!

I'd never really considered BB for a lunch option... those sandwiches all sound good. May have to try it out sometime!

Yikes! I can't believe they used their TS credits for lunch!! :scared1::scared1:

Short sighted decisions that throw off all of the well thought out plans are what really drives me crazy about being at Disney with a big group! I totally feel your pain!

I'm really annoyed for you! More so at the grandparents then the kids. Why did it never occur to Paul to mention his breakfast thing if it's such a must do for him everyday. :confused3

Ughhhhhhh! I could feel your frustration over the whole breakfast/lunch/TS thing! You just spent HOW LONG planning and making ADRs to have them waste the credits. :headache: Really, okay, they want food - I get it - if they had just asked what to do instead!!! Arg.

Aside from that, sounds like a very nice morning! I love all your "waiting for the boat" pictures and cannot wait to be there in 6 days. :hyper: And your PP pictures at the Beach Club are beautiful! I am going to keep an eye out for one in that area and request that same shot with the BW in the background. :cloud9:

Sorry to hear about Taylor and his whining - I laughed out loud about throwing him in Cresent Lake though. :rolleyes1 ;)

Wow Wow Wow! :sad2:

Well...the positive turn of this post is the fabulous PP pictures, the lovely walk from DHS, the drifters and the proposition of throwing Taylor in Crescent Lake!

Sorry that all of your planning seems to be going awry this am. I might have thrown myself in Crescent Lake :rotfl:

Tracy

I'm glad we have never had to deal with Dining credits - I can just imagine how they would be wasted by my crew. And as a mother of 3 teen-age boys (well the 2 oldest are 20 & 21 but still verry teenager-ish!) I can totally sympathize with throwing Taylor in the lake! And a well-intentioned grandmother can cause sooooo much trouble. My mother and my oldest son have a good bond - which was nice when he was little But the older he got the more often he would go to grandma when he didn't get the responses he wanted at home. I tried to explain to my mother that she had her opportunity to raise her kids and she should let me raise mine. But she doesn't think she is doing anything wrong. maybe not - but it has definitely strained the relationships between us and our oldest boy and us and her. :headache:

Wow. Just wow. I think between the teeange angst and the grandparents, I'd be ready to tell them all to have fun on their own.

That's why no more whole family trips for us. I just can't do them anymore.

With that plan in mind we headed out and decided a boat ride would be the way to go. We were at the dock at about 8:15 so for us, doing quite well!
It was HOT already as we walked up and waited for the boat. Killing time, I took a few pictures.
I swear I see the early morning haze of a hot day in your first photo there.

but love that you can spend some time with just the E's in the morning and split up into smaller groups. :thumbsup2

I LOVE LOVE LOVE:cool1::cool1:the brownie face! toofunny!

and yeah, I can get ignoring a few texts.:rolleyes1 I remember having to just manage one extra person with the dining plan issue....can't even imagine having to manage a whole gang of extras.
Bet that beer tasted especially good!!:dance3:

quite the eventful morning.

i can see my in laws doing something like that.

too bad he didnt tell you ahead of time what his wishes were for the trip.

was TSM scheduled to be done for maintanence?

:thumbsup2 LOVE the family pic. You look terrific and great shirt. :goodvibes

Using accounted for credits? :faint: Who are these people? :rotfl2:

It looks warm and muggy in the photos.

I vote for throwing Taylor in the lake! Paaaaleeezzzzzeeeeee! Bored! I know for sure that he and Brian would be fast friends because they are cut from the same mold. Teens! OMG!!!!!

I love your PP pictures of the 4 of you. They turned out great. :thumbsup2

I don't blame you for being upset about the TS credits. Total waste. But you can't be there every second, can you?

Fun morning at HS. I love that pathway between HS and the boardwalk. I am totally up for walking (unless its a bagillion degrees at 1pm). I plan to run there in the mornings.
