Can this be done? Is there a train or bus to get from Downtown LA to Disney?

the metrolink (orange county line) can go from l.a. to anaheim (the grove). check metrolinktrains.com. the public buses goes too but it will be a LOOOONNNNGGGG trip. you can check them out at MTA.net good luck!

I have been researching this. The amtrak is only about 12 bucks! It goes to union station on alameda st. and takes only about 40 mins to get there! We aren't renting a car, and I want to keep expenses down. We are going from Anaheim to Hollywood for 2 days and I plan to take the train, then transfer to the metro, which has a stop next door to our hotel!

Yes, I attended a meeting in downtown LA last week, and took the Metrolink train and MTA Red line, which connects underneath LA's Union Station. The round trip fare was $12, and that covers the Red Line transfer. Getting from the Anaheim Amtrak/Metrolink station to the DL area is another question of course. There's an OCTA bus that runs east and west on Katella, but the bus stop is on the NW corner of State College and Katella, which is a bit of a hike (15-20 minutes I'll guess). You might just want to take a taxi from the train station.

If you get off in Fullerton (the stop before Anaheim coming down from LA) instead, you can take OCTA bus route 43 right to DL--it goes along Harbor Blvd. It's a fairly long bus ride, and not one I'd want to do with luggage (since that bus tends to get crowded), but it's only $1 or so.

Be mindful that Metrolink Orange County line only runs commuter hours Monday - Friday. The last morning train from Union Station to Anaheim leaves around 8:00 or 8:30 a.m. The next train after that leaves around the 3:00 p.m. hour with the last train of the day around 6:30 p.m. It does not run on weekends.

Amtrak runs throughout the day and on weekends. It cost a little more; $17.00. You can use your AAA card to get a 10% discount.

Yikes - thanks for all the info. Any idea what a cab would cost from the bus station to DL from the Ananheim train stop? A long bus ride tacked on to a long train ride doesn't sound like a great start.

I took the train a few years ago with my daughters from the San Fernando Valley to Disneyland. They had a free shuttle bus that dropped you off on Harbor across from the Disneyland entrance. I'm not sure if they still offer this but you may want to call Metrolink to find out.

You can take the MTA 460. It drops you off right in front on Disneyland on Harbor Boulevard. You can check out the timetable here. http://www.mta.net/riding_metro/timetables/images/460.pdf
The buses tend to run a bit fast, adn it's really cheap. I only pay $2.25 to get to DL, and it takes about 45 minutes for me. It's an express line, so It only has a few designated stops. I think for LA, it be about 2 hours at the longest.
