We will be staying at POR next week and I haven't made dinner dining plans for our arrival day. I figured we could take the boat to Downtown Disney and eat at one of the resaurants there.

Where do you recommend we eat for a early dinner at DD? There will be three adults, DS(5) & DD(1).

I considered the Rainforest Cafe, but I don't like that they don't accept priority seating and I don't want to wait forever. The menu at the House of Blues looks good, but since I've never been there, I'm not sure how the atmosphere would be for my kids. Are there other places I should consider instead of these two?

It sounds like you want a table service restaurant and we have not tried any of those DTD restaurants but if you are interested in good counter service we LOVE the Earl of Sandwich  Great food and very reasonably priced.

In downtown disney we love House of Blues..you are right, the menu is great. It is fine for kids. The restaurant is completely seperate from the concert hall.

We also love planet hollywood. Capn' Crunch chicken fingers..yummy, the LA lasagna, and one of the best cobb salads I have ever had anywhere.

We haven't been to the rainforest cafe in a long time. The food used to be really good there. We have been to rainforests in many cities since our visit to the one in Orlando and the food in all of them has really went down hill, so I hope it isn't the same at disney.

Anyway, if you are planning on an early dinner, you won't have a long wait at any of the places I have listed above. Go and enjoy!

I say go for the rainforest, we really enjoyed it. I called ahead and made a PS when we were on our way there from the resort and we had maybe a 20 min wait, which can be spent in the gift shop..

You can make a ps for Rainforest Cafe! It is a lot of fun for the kids and a great atmosphere! But we didn't think the food was very good! :sad2:

We love the Rainforest Cafe. We find that there portions are huge and love to share. Our fav is there ribs. Our dd 3 loves the atmosphere. We are on the dining plan for our next trip but think we will go there anyway. Best themeing for children.

My kids love Rainforest Cafe, and we've always had great food there. We called the restaurant directly to make ressies (not PS's/ADR's) but I've heard that you can make PS's there now. If not, call directly and make a ressie if you decide to eat there. We were seated within 5 to 10 minutes with ressies, while the people in front of us in line without ressies were told the wait was 2 1/2 hours. :earseek:

The other place that we absolutely love to eat at DTD is Earl of Sandwich. It's counter service, but for us it is a must-do every trip!

I've eaten at both the Rainforest (call directly and make a PS) and Planet Hollywood. I thought they were both very good, but my kids loved the Rainforest Cafe. If you go there be sure to order the volcano for desert. My kids still talk about it and it has been 3 years.

Nothing wrong with House of Blues (atmosphere-wise) for kids.
Another "kid friendly" spot is Wolfgang Pucks. I found Planet Hollywood extremey loud--maybe too loud for a 1 year old??
My favorite DD restaurant is Portobello Yacht Club.
Whatever you decide, avoid Fultons at all costs!!

My DD (11) loves Fulton's Seafood. Eating on the big boat is fun, plus she is a real seafood lover! It is pricey, though!

She also likes House of Blues and Planet Hollywood.

Rainforest is OK, if you don't mind the wait. We prefer the food and service at the Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom better!~

Fulton's is awesome!! Very tastey seafood. Last time we did dinner since we had the Romance Package and it covered a fancy dinner. When we go in May we're going to eat there for lunch since it is considerably cheaper.

My vote would be for either The Portabella Yacht Club or Fulton's Crab House. Both places are excellent!!!!

Wolfgang Pucks is amazing, as is Portabello's. I may be the only person, but I am not a big fan of the Rainforest Cafe. I went there last year and had the worst Disney experience ever. We were put right by the kitchen and were not treated well. However the atmosphere is fun and unique...I guess it really depends on what you are looking for. I think there are tons of great places to eat in DTD...you can't really go wrong with most of them.

We had PS at Rainforest in June...Great place for kids and adults. The food and atmosphere are both great. We do love House of Blues and Wolfgang Puck and both are great choices. You can't go wrong with any of the three and they are all restaurants we eat at almost everytime we go to DW...

my recommendations would be for either Fultons or Rainforest. You might want Rainforest because of the kids, they'd probably enjoy it more than Fultons. Either way you'll have a good meal.

I would suggest HOB. Colorful atmosphere and good food! DH loved Portobello (I haven't been there). He also likes Puck's Cafe. Fulton's is a bit stuffy. We like the food. Not overly exciting for a child. Rainforest gets some pretty lousy reviews on this board. It is kid friendly. We have a local Rainforest so haven't bothered in years.
