Wasn't sure exactly which board to put this on.....1st time to Disney with my two kids, 4&6, second week in May, staying at WL and will have a car which my husband prefers over using the buses. How long will it take to drive to DTD? Will we save time by driving or is it better to take the bus to DTD from WL? Re the restaurants and DTD - Can you make ADR for the restaurants there or is it possible to walk around and then settle on a place - will there be huge waits the second week in May without a ressie? I would like to play some nights by ear and not have a set plan every night. Can anyone recommend any restaurants in DTD - casual and good for kids? Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

I can't say how long it takes to drive to DTD from WL as we always just took the bus.
DTD has several restaurants...to check all the info out on the menus and the like go to www.allearsnet.com. As for casual eating, I would recommend Wolfgang Puck's Express. They have great food for kids and adults, and at a great price. FYI there is a McDonald's down there if you're kids are super picky.
We've eaten at Wolfgang Puck's Cafe, which is the next step up from the Express, and House of Blues w/out ressies. We did have to wait, but no longer than 30 mins or so during our visits in April.

It's about 10-15 minutes ride by car. Car is definitely faster than the bus unless the bus is there ready to go as you approach the bus stop. My kids love the Rainforest Cafe due to the animal theme. To my knowledge they don't take ADR's (Rainforest) but I don' know about the other restaurants at DTD.

Rainforest does take "priority seating", I called on Saturday morning. I am not sure how far out.

It is not the 407-WDW-DINE number, but can be found on the website.

If you go to this link, http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/dining/diningListing?id=DTDDiningListingPage

you will see a list of DTD restaurants. Those that have ADRs will have the 407-WDW - DINE number, those that don't take ADRs will have no number. As with RFC, there is a different number.
