Just received the January 2004 edition of the Frequent Virgin's magazine this morning. On page 4 it mentions the following:

'Check your bags in with us, collect your boarding passes and you're free to go off and squeeze in a few more hours in the parks, or nip off to the mall to buy some last minute gifts. This stress-busting service is exclusively FREE from 2004 for guests of Virgin Holidays'. Checked out the Virgin Holidays website and it also confirms this.

Some good news to start the year with!

Thanks Peebee:)

I had a look at the link. One detail from the site - "Relax - exclusive to Virgin Holidays' guests, this service is completely FREE!"

We are flying with Virgin in July and I was looking forward to using DTD check in. We are going on a DIY holiday, not through Virgin Holidays. Does the " Relax - exclusive to Virgin Holidays' guests" mean that those not using Virgin Hols cannot use DTD check in?

I would like to know about this as well, amf.

And a couple of questions for DTD check in veterans.

How long before your flight do you now arrange to be at the airport for?

And what do you do with your hand luggage for the rest of the day?

Hi,

In answer to your questions, I think DTD check in is open to all but only free if you are on a Virgin Holiday everyone else will still have to pay.

We were told (in November) to be at the airport an hour before the flight was due to leave because of security measures. We had to keep our hand luggage all day but as it fitted easily into the trunk of the car out of sight that wasn't a problem and we didn;t need to carry it around which was useful especially as we had thick jumpers and winter coats with us for when we landed next morning.

Certainly from the way the note is phrased it would seem that the offer is specific to customers of Holidays, rather than all Virgin ticketholders. We've got a Virgin fly-drive booked for our May trip so I would think we're covered, but it might be worth contacting Virgin Atlantic to see what they have to say about the matter.

When we used the service in October they suggested arriving at the airport about 60-90 ahead of the flight departure, and I would say that is pretty realistic, based on the time it take to go airside these days. If you want to shop, eat, etc then i'd give it a bit more time.

We also kept our hand luggage in the car, and had plenty of space in the trunk.

I emailed Virgin earlier today and this their reply -

"If you have a flydrive holiday booked with Virgin Holidays then this service is available to you for free. If you have a flight only booked with Virgin Atlantic then this service is still available to you but at a charge of approximately $5 per person."

Thanks Becky:jumping1:

At $5 per skull I reckon its well worthwhile:D

Well done Becky!

It really is a great facility - it's a wonderful feeling to have dropped off the bags and still have virtually the whole day left to have fun.

Paul

wow that sounds really good, shame only Virgin do it and not Travel City :D

No problem. :D It looks like Virgin offer the best flights for us, and I always like to know exactly where I stand with all these things!!

We are planning to use this service on our way back in Feb and I am assuming that the DTD Check-in is in the Virgin Store - is this correct?

Hi Sue. The check-in is actually located at one side of the Cirque de Soleil theatre. Take the West Side entrance and drive towards the Cirque building and you can't miss it.

Paul

Thanks Paul - you just saved me from looking like a right moron in the Virgin store!
