Downtown Disney Check In

the check in lady at VA in Orlando Airport told us that you can go 2kg per bag over on the way home and that was fine. Anything over then they start to raise they eyebrows!:) So we have nearly always been over on at least one bag by this amt and have yet to pay anything.

We were 4kg over on one bag and 3kg over on the other...

:goodvibes

Another thing to consider- you cases are left in a hot truck for hours before they get to MCO- anything that may spoil in your case probably will- I have melted choccy once :-(

We have been over before travelling PE by 4kgs before but like you we never have all our cases.

I have seen Economy passengers being asked to be re-pack or being charged though...

That worried me last week, but all my chocolate got home in one (non melted) piece - unfortunately my suitcase didn't quite make it home intact, but I'm assured I'll have a new one by Tuesday.

Last year we were able to check in at DTD having booked a flight inclusive package with WDTC at no charge (as if it was a Virgin Holiday's package who I believe provide the WDTC packages?). All other years we've paid. I've only queued once. Last week we were in and out in about 5 minutes ... very smooth. Means we can enjoy our day without worrying that the car is full of suitcases.

Thought it might be the case.

Also we only got charged for the two of us with seats and not for Joseph despite him 'checking in' and having luggage :)

That happened to Nat a couple of years back. I think the check-in agent was a bit peeved with her because she moaned that we hadn't got our seats together despite having done OLCI so he made her repack her cases, even though one of them was only just over 1kg over.

If thats something that worries you then its worth doing. I really don't mind leaving it all in the car, I carry around Matts Ipad, documents & a memory stick with all pics on, everything else can easily be replaced.
We couldn't have just done the road trip if we worried about leaving luggage in the car, for 6 days it was left everywhere from Maimi to Orlando.

Most hotels will put your luggage in a storage room won't they? If you don't want to leave it in the car all day

I believe most do but I can only think about the years we used to goto Spain and the crime down there, it was a big problem with luggage being stolen from hotel storage. Probably not a problem in Florida, I just feel safer with it in the car.

Bell services at Disney will and we do that.

As we stay at either BLT or OKW I am happy leaving there as I know it is safe :thumbsup2

People have said about charges to those who don't book through virgin but use the DTD check in, how much do they charge?

Only when we went in 2010 we travelled with kenwood travel but our flights were with virgin and we didn't get charge anything to check in at DTD, is this something new?

Rather than make a new thread I'm just wondering about a point made here about OLCI. If I do OLCI on my laptop at home before we go to the airport do I need to print anything? We fly from Dublin to LGW first so not sure if thats a factor. It would be really handy to know we have the seats we want though we will be checking in at Dublin around 5.30am for 8.30am flight to LGW and we'll be checked the whole way to MCO even thougj our MCO flight doesn't leave LGW until 1pm (does the wording even make sense lol) Just wondering if I should bother doing OLCI...

If you do OLCI you do not have to print anything. OLCI will open at 1pm the day before your flight to MCO.

We always do OLCI if we can even when we are using Twilight check in at LGW. Last time I couldn't check in online and I was so stressed!

Hi,

Ok so just to double check as I never knew this before!

We always do OLCI at home the day before our flight and print off our boarding passes, go to bag drop the next morning and off we go.

On the return we do DTD check in with our bags get our boarding cards and head to the airport later and straight to security, as I thought you had to print boarding passes for the return.

Is this not the case then, so I can do OLCI on the iPad in resort and not have to print anything out, then when DME collects us we go to bag drop at MCO.

We are flying PE so I need to make sure we get 4 seats together, by doing OLCI the day before should give us a better chance I think.

Sorry to have to repeat this but this sounds great, frees up our last day a bit !!

Thanks

That's exactly it. If you do OLCI, when you get to bag drop at MCO, they will ask you if you have printed your boarding cards. If you haven't, they will print boarding cards for you.

We always do OLCI now. DTD check-in is great if it's free but I wouldn't pay for it.

When we went to Las Vegas in March, I realised on the way to the airport the night before that I hadn't done OLCI. Did it on my phone on the way to Gatwick and went to Twilight check in when we got there to drop our bags. They printed our boarding passes for us and we were set :thumbsup2

ive booked with vh
do they send you out an info pack which explains were the dtd check in is and other useful info

Yes, they will send you a folder a couple of weeks before with your flight vouchers, suggested packing list and other useful info.

Thanks very much for clarifying this, as we've only booked flights with VA this year we would have paid to do DTD check in. $40 dollars saved (or not!!)

Sorry, missed this earlier.

It is $10 per person. VH, UC, Flying club Gold & Infants (without a seat) are free.

I have only paid cash so not sure of other method of payment.

Thanks for that! Great to know. And am I right in thinking you have to be a WDW guest to do DTD check in? We're staying offsite but have a long day with bags in the car.
