Hi everyone, I know I asked about downtown Disney in an earlier thread however now I'm wondering what the boardwalk is?
Is it similar? is downtown Disney better? I know you said to go to downtown Disney in the evening, is this the same for boardwalk?

I love all the tips and advice!

Thanks

The boardwalk is the area outside of the Boardwalk resort/Epcot resort area. There are shops, restaurants, and in the evening there are street performers.

It's fun, but not worth going out of your way for, in my opinion.

Not NEARLY as much to do as downtown disney

Downtown Disney by far offers much more than Boardwalk. You could easily spend the day at DTD.

I agree with the other posters..BW is nice, but definitely not a destination to go out of your way for by any means. If you are 21 or older and looking for adult fun, Jellyrolls Dueling piano bar on the BW is nice.

Agree with PPs. If you want to check out the BW, I would go at night. I've heard there's more going on like performers and stuff. We went in the afternoon once and were very bored - no one around and it only took us about 20 mins to see everything.

The preferred time to see the Boardwalk is in the evenings. However, if you are looking for some down time while at Epcot, you can always sneak out the IG back exit, take a stroll around the Boardwalk area and the BC/YC area, and head back in.

It's also a great way to transition from Epcot to DHS.

There may be less to do than DTD, but it is uncrowded in comparison and the pace is less hurried.

Meals at Flying Fish, Yachtsman Steakhouse, and Cape May Cafe (not to mention a few restaurants at the Swan & Dolphin) are also among the best that WDW has to offer.

Only one of those you mentioned (Flying Fish) is actually at Boardwalk.
(Not that it matters much, except for the sake of this discussion.)

The street performers at the Boardwalk are out from 6:30 PM - 10:00 PM at random locations in front of their stores and etc that are on the Boardwalk. However if it happens to be raining or is cold outside, then they will perform inside their lobby.

I think Downtown Disney has a lot more to offer and would not go out of my way to visit The Boardwalk.
HOWEVER, I do appreciate The Boardwalk for what it has to offer, and if we're ever over in Epcot and have time to spare we will head over to The Boardwalk to walk around and watch the entertainers. It's a very short, nice walk from the International Gateway in Epcot's World Showcase over to The Boardwalk.
The shops at The Boardwalk aren't anything outside of the shops you'll find in the parks or at DTD but they do have a unique restaurant or two and the entertainers are fun. DTD offers entertainment too, more restaurants and more unique shops.

Boardwalk stays open pretty late. Downtown Disney has more stuff to do for kids if you have any. Downtown Disney is more fun in my opinion but thats just me. It seems like like Downtown Disney has more shops and more Disney stuff there to buy. Boardwalk is about a 20-25 minute walk from Hollywood Studios.

Good point. We went in September and took mid-day breaks every day. On our Epcot day, instead of going back to our resort, we walked over to ESPN Club on the Boardwalk and got lunch (no ADRs needed - they don't accept them) and watched football for a few hours. Nice way to re-energize for the rest of Epcot, without having to go all the way back to the resort.

IMHO...It all depends on what YOU want. Personally, I just love the Boardwalk in the evening. Nice restaurants, a short walk to Epcot, entertainers on the Boardwalk...nice bars at the resorts...ESPN....Jelly Rolls...etc......

However...if you want shopping chaos, DTD with no Adventurer's Inn or Comedy Club...then try DTD. I think DTD is just shop shop shop shop....and bad expensive food....that just doesn't do it for me personally.

But....we all have different opinions....don't we? Otherwise, everyone would want to marry my husband. LOL.

So can somebody give more info on some of these places on the Boardwalk? I mean I saw the map but just the names don't tell me much about what the store/shop/business has.

Like Thimbles/Threads, Wyland Galleries, Character Carnival, etc. Just curious if these are places we'd be interested in going in.

If you go to the boardwalk and are taking Disney buses; you will need to go to DTD to get back to your resort.

Not necessarily true.

Depends on if DHS or MK are still open.

Also, at some point in the evening, there will be "direct buses" provided from the Boardwalk bus stop back to all WDW Resorts.

(Similar to the "direct resort bus" situation following the later shows of Hoop De Doo Revue at FtW.)

Thimbles and threads is a general store (food, clothes, gifts) for the resort, wyland galleries is an expensive art store that features a lot of aquatic scenes, character carnival is general Disney merchandise i think. Jelly rolls is a bar, Atlantic dance hall is not open a lot of times and when it is I believe it's just a club. Espn has the bar, restaurant and an arcade. Flying fish, kouzinna, and big river are all restaurants. There are also carnival games, surry bike rentals, a baker, a candy store and an ice cream shop (might be combo candy and ice cream). Oh, and there are some fair food type booths. I can't think of anything else on the boardwalk.
