Downtown Disney Advice

We will be including Downtown Disney in our plans for the first time. Never been. Can't wait to shop! Are there items found there that are not found at any of the theme parks? Mother is notorious for saying "I'll pick it up at the next park" and then never finds what she wanted. We're figuring on spending 1/2 day there, including dinner at Planet Hollywood. Is that enough time. Won't be doing Quest. Just shopping, eating and walking.

1/2 day may be a little to short depending on how fast (or slow) you shop. Yes there are PLENTY of things that are in DTD that are not in the parks...but you will see park stuff as well.

Honestly Planet hollywood isn't that great (if you have been to any other PH before you have been to this 1) we like earl of sandwich fast and good.

Shopping at DTD is completely different than at the theme parks.

The disney store is so big for example, you could easily spend a couple of hours alone in there, the majority of the rest of the stores whilst not being as big are totally different than those found at the parks.

The World of Disney store in DTD has almost everything except theme park specific items....this would be anything with animal prints or Animal Kingdom Logos, MGM logo wear ( or anything Tot/RnR/Etc) or anything Epcot specific (items with Spaceship Earth on them or any of their rides or logos).

We've acquired a Disney Shopping Motto over all of our trips: If you see, like it, then make sure you buy it!! Chances are you may not find it anywhere else. Just something to keep in mind while you shop. We have been burned too many times passing things up only hoping to find them later in our trip.

we love shopping at DTD and always include it in our plans. The World of Disney store is huge! and you can spend most of your time in there. the Lego's sculptures alone are worth going to DTD to see, and Ghiardelli's Chocolates?

If you see something you want, buy it.
If you change your mind you can return it to any cashier on the property...you don't have to take it back to the location from which you purchased it.

You may not be able to find every thing but you will find most things at World of Disney; it's a great store! There are also other wonderful stores around including one that is all Disney-Christmas stuff and another that solely sales books, photo albums and frames. We usually planned a whole day there but we tend to catch a movie and do other stuff.

Also, just my two cents, but I would consider doing another restaurant besides Planet Hollywood. It's really not a very good restaurant (to put it nicely) and Downtown Disney has some great ones like the Rain Forest Cafe, Bongos, Earl of Sandwich, etc.
