Downton Abbey

Also forgot to add don't you think Anna is going to end up pregnant?

Yes, I think that's exactly what's going to happen. I think there is going to be a whole season of angst between Anna and Mr. Bates. I'm 50:50 on whether she will tell him. In that day most women didn't tell anyone, not even their DH for fear of retribution and divorce. It was very telling when she shyed away from Bates when he reached out to console her.

Edna was setting up tom to rape him, giving him a strong drink (which, who knows if it was JUST a drink) encouraging him to take it to bed, at the end of the episode she sneaks into his room.

It is not a violent rape like what happened to poor Anna, but when you get someone drunk and then sneak into their room...yeah, that's rape. It's like what happens on college campuses. You can't get someone drunk and sneak into their room and sleep with them, that's not consensual.

I agree, but we never actually saw Tom drunk...or know that he even drank what she gave him, although I think it is likely. I am hoping he will heed what Mrs. Hughes told him about this girl making him ashamed about who he is and will send her away...but somehow I don't think so. At this point it is a bit of a stretch to say he was raped...unless you know something (SPOILERS) we don't :)

Killing Sybil and Mathew were enough. Both characters said they wanted to go and do other things. But Branson I love him. Edna and Thomas need to fight over balcony and fling each other over. Julian Fellows has got to stir things up on the show. It's too much this time! Now Anna and Mr. Bates will be no more over this. Did yall see how Cora was sooo distraught that O'Brien left! She will have to do her own hair. LAWD! :sad2::sad2::sad2:

I think Anna will be pregnant and won't know if the father of her child is her husband or the rapist. How sad. :(

I dont think it's a stretch at all to say Tom was raped. Edna sure wasn't going into his bedroom to change the bed sheets or dust the tabletops. I thought the whole thing was blatantly obvious. :confused3

When she gave him the drink, he commented on how much there was in the glass. She told him it was whiskey, and to take it to his room and drink it in bed. Before he headed up the stairs, Tom is shown drinking from the glass. So he might not have drunk the whole thing, but he definitely had at least a swallow. If the drink was drugged, he ingested some of it.

***SPOILER***

If Lady Mary starts seeing more of Lord Gillingham, Anna will have to see his wretched valet whenever the two are courting! (This thought just occurred to me while I was working!)

The plot thickens...

I don't think they'll go for the drugged drink angle. They've already played that hand with Tom in an earlier episode. But if he was drinking, this little vixen could easily have convinced him to have a go at it. My bet is SHE'll get pregnant (if she's not already) and name him the father, which will probably terminate his relationship with the family. I can't imagine them welcoming a housemaid to the family. They had a hard enough time welcoming Tom in and he was married to a daughter!

Is he his valet or the poker guy's valet. Had a hard time keeping everyone straight last night.

I agree with you. Losing Matthew and Sybil was so sad and I really love Anna and Tom and hate to see them get hurt. Last night was awful, I hope Fellows does something to repair the story line.

I was really impressed with the acting from the lady who plays Anna. I hated having to see her act that way (hurt and scared) but I thought her acting was incredible!! :thumbsup2

Anna is the sweetest character and I wanted her and Bates to be happy...so I hope that they don't drag the out "bates not knowing" thing to the point where they start having problems with each other (fighting, distant etc) due to him not knowing what she's going through.
I hope they just get it out quickly, whether Anna tells him herself or whether another character tells Bates for her, because ultimately it will be better if they can face it together and she should have his support and not have to go thru it alone.. :worried:

As for poor Tom I don't know who he could talk to, whoever he tells may just blame him.. :( Even nowadays male rape victims don't get the support they need so I can't imagine him trying to tell someone and get honest empathy and support in 1922.

:furious: I know the characters can't be happy all the time or there wouldn't be any plot in the show..but, I hate when sad things happen to sweet characters

I was almost in tears last night over the Anna rape. It was filmed well with the soprano singing while Anna was screaming but it was soooo hard to watch. I get that women feel guilty and dirty but it is hard to reconcile Anna not running to Bates for protection. After Mary & Matthew, my next fave couple is Anna and Mr. Bates. Fellows can't mess that up after all they've been thru. I saw an interview with the cast and writer and he said he got hate notes over Matthew's death.

I was happy that O'Brien left; I hope it's not temporary.

Is anyone else hoping that Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes get romantic? During that interview I mentioned above, the Mrs. Hughes' actress was the only one that made me say "Woah, is that Mrs. Hughes?" She looks completely different IRL.

I said the same thing to my friend today.

I just googled a few of them. You think Mrs Hughes looks different (which she totally does) google Mrs Patmore (Lesley Nichol).

Laura Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith, is a knockout in real life. They really frump-ify her for the show. I totally agree about Phyllis Logan (Mrs Hughes) and Lesley Nichol (Mrs Patmore). They are both such pretty ladies!

That was so hard to watch! I did not like that episode...:worried: I did understand why Anna is not want to tell bates... First the time period and second her fear that he would be arrested again..

Check this out - It's of Fellows, director?, and the actress that plays Mrs. Hughes talking about writing, filming, editing the incident.

I didn't like what happened to Anna either. It was hard listening to her screaming. I wished she'd told Bates, but I understand her thinking in that Bates will kill him & end up in jail again. She needs to tell him now that the guy is gone. I hate that Edna is back & Tom can't tell her to back off. She does say something when she enters the room though, I think something like "Good, you're in bed". I don't know I can't remember, but was she just talking to herself w/Tom passed out? I am not too happy about the way the story is going.

Not only will Anna get pregnant, but I think we're going to have a back-street abortion story this season.
