Downsizing...Upsurging....DOUBLE UPDATE

Oh Well, the agency just rang. It was felt that I had far too much experience for the role they were offering. Looks like I'll have to work on the "dumbing down" a little.

Bf had/has a similar problem. He basically got told by RBS (not these exact words but it was the gist) that if he hadn't mentioned his degree on his CV then he probably would have got the job. His degree is in Computer Aided Design and pretty much irrelevant to the jobs he's going for now (same old story of starting a uni course cos he felt he had to and realising he hated it..) but I think they just didn't want people who are 'overqualified'

Best of luck to you, onwards and upwards as they say :thumbsup2

Well, this company has just rang me and invited me for an interview for a more senior role on January 19th.:thumbsup2 Maybe, I'd better not dumb down just yet.

I also had a preliminary "telephone" interview with another company today. This role is a pretty senior one which would be one hell of a challenge. We'll see if they call me in for a second interview.

Another also, I have an interview tomorrow as well. This is a more junior role, so I'll have to ensure I give the appropriate responses.

So, new year, new interviews and they're all local (within a 15 mile radius).:goodvibes

Fingers and toes crossed for you Richard:grouphug:

Result...... I had a phone call today from the agency that arranged my interview last Thursday. They've made me an offer. I have to admit, it was more a case of "who you know" as opposed to "what you know". I used to work at the company many years ago and one of the directors, who I'd worked closely with, interviewed me this time. It was a case of "I know what you can do and what you're capable of, tell me what you've been doing for the last 10 years". The role is more junior to what I've been doing and £10K a year less, but it's local (9 minutes on a good day, 11 minutes on a bad) and I can do it with my eyes closed (so very little stress as well).

I still have an interview tomorrow (the company that called me in for a more senior role) and also one on Monday - this was the one for the very senior role (Global Programme Office Manager) that I had the preliminary telephone interview for...so I must have said something right in that one. This one carries a salary of £25K MORE than what I was previously on, but I think they will want their pound of flesh from me.

Anyway, however it goes, I'll soon be back in the world of employee,:thumbsup2 and start planning what to do with the severance pay I got from my previous employer - may they rot in hell. (I'm sure Tron will back me up on that one ;) )

Many thanks to all those that have wished me luck over the past few months.

Brilliant News Richard, I am so pleased for you, it is much deserved - well done to you

Richard you have my congratulations and understanding. In1998 I was made redundant following a takeover where they retained their own less experienced staff and made us more experienced higher paid staff redundant. I was eventually out of work for 16 months which used up my severance pay. and despite a number of interviews for both senior related jobs and more junior fresh start jobs nothing came. (Interestingly I too has a response on the lines of too good for this job). I ended up rejoining my first company in a different role from one I was in before at a much lower salary and package. It took me from 2000 to last year to make it back up the the level I was on (no perks though)

Well Done!

Fantastic news Richard - like you say - what ever happens you'll have some employment.

Even if it doesn't work out - it's a known fact it's easier to find work when you're in work so you can always keep your eyes out.

Good Luck with everything!
