Say I have a 2 bedroom villa reserved on points, with the non-dedicated requested. Later I find out I only need a one bedroom. Can I just change my DVC reservation to a one bedroom? Or do I need to cancel my 2 bedroom ressie and book a one bedroom based on availabiility at that time?

People were booking 2-bedrooms and then just cancelling the unit they didn't need. MS has stopped this practice. You can change from a 2-bedroom to either a studio or one-bedroom but it would be cancelling the one reservation and looking for availablity on the other. If there is no wait list, you wouldn't have a problem.

Oh No!!

I hope that is not the case, Pam. I had spoken with MS in july to book next June and explained If some of our family decided to back out, could I drop the Studio portion of the lock off. He stated as long as I gave them more than 31 days notice it would be no problem. I hope they haven't changed their "minds".

We went through this once before on the boards and I thought what I stated was how it came out. Anything else really isn't fair to all members. However, DVC has the final say and I haven't directly posed this question.

mdpoppins, I believe PamOKW is correct, as per previous discussions. I bet the person in MS told you what is correct, that it can be done, but did not mention the "subject to availability" for the new reservation you need. He was talking more of the points issue.

Thanks Tigger for posting this question. It helped me out with the responses given. I understand now! Thanks to Pam and Kirt. I read these boards regularly for good info. Mary

I would also be concerned about the possibility of not being able to bank the excess points from the "downsizing". Other than Premier Season, there is about a 60-80 point difference betwwen the 2 bdrm and the 1 bdrm for one weeks stay.

If those points were borrowed from your next use year, or if you are past your banking deadline when you downsize, it may be use it or lose it time.

My two cents, Steve

Last year I needed to do this, and MS told me that I would have to cancel one ressie and request another. It was a popular season, and there were no 1BR available for that time, so I would have to be placed on a waiting list. I just kept the 2BR, because she said the waiting list was lengthy.

So if you had any questions whether you would need to change your 2Br request would it be better to reserve a 1br and a studio? I know there is a slight point difference but at least you wouldn't have to be waitlisted during a busy time if you had to cancel the studio.

Nanajo1...if you book a 1BR and a studio, there is no guarantee they will be two parts of a 2BR (joined rooms). That's a good strategy if staying next to each other is not critical. Of course, the studio people would miss out on the other amenities of the 1BR such as the full kitchen and jacuzzi bath.
