Hi everyone! Not trying to be thick here, but just want to make sure I understand this all correctly. We already have 2 direct purchase contracts from Disney, which total 320 points. Thinking about adding on a 50 pt resale contract in the same use year. At the 7 month window, then we are able to use all 370 points to book a resort, correct? Is there any downside to purchasing resale since we already have our blue card? TIA for your insight and expertise!

You will not be able to use the 50 points resale at Riviera, and any future resort (such as Disneyland Tower). You can combine all 370 points at 7 months to book at any of the original 14 resorts.

To expand on this, the flip side of this is if the resale you purchase is Riviera, you would ONLY be able to use those points at Riviera and NOT the original 14 resorts (or future resorts).

If you get a resale contract at one of your existing home resorts in the same use year, you could combine those points at the 11-month mark.

One (temporary) downside is the length of the purchase process. It can be long.

Thanks SO much, everyone!!! We were looking at a resale at one of the original resorts, so wouldn't be affected by restrictions. Also made sure to look for the same use year. Fingers crossed!!

As mentioned earlier, you can only book at the original 14 if you buy resale. For 50 points, I personally wouldn’t do it. Having 50 points that are restricted and the rest that aren’t is going to make planning and booking harder. If it was 150 points, I’d say it is worth it, but not for 50. Additionally 50 point contracts are much closer to direct prices than larger contracts.

The difference in price on a 50 point contract isn't that great, so I would go direct for it, and at the same resort you already have points at.

Huh? I guess it really depends on the property, but for me 50 pts @ BLT for $150 resale vs $245 direct is a savings of $4750. That's seems like a considerable difference to me.
Over 40 years thats $120/year savings, but those points would be restricted to the original 14. Is it really worth $120/year? For some poeple it would be worth it, but for most I don't think so.
Once you get up to the 100 point contracts, is where I would be looking at resale.

I see your point, but at 59 yo, 40 years is unrealistic for me. Also, what can I do today with the extra $$$.

Simple downside -- You won't be able to use those re-sale points at Riviera or other future resorts.
Probably not a big downside for most people.

i can tell you having restricted and non restricted points is not great. I regret it. I do love RIV so will be booking nights there as part of trips, but it makes it harder having to plan for those points not being part of the total.

If the 320 you own are plenty to never need them to book RIV or future resorts, then may not be a big deal.

I agree , I would try to buy 100 points minimum .

It's worth mentioning your Blue Card dies with the contract. So, if you have a 2042 and hope to pass down a Blue Card, might be better to get some direct points, which is 125 direct.

I agree 50 point resale contracts are overpriced, and the closing changes the math on a contract that small. If you're going this resale route, I'd at least get 100. (Pre-Covid) it wasn't hard to rent out a few here and there if you have too many.

quick question I have 2 contract both bought in 2017 .one contract is resale and the other is direct. The direct is only 25 points before they up the amount for blue cards(I do have a blue card).if I sell the resale contract and keep the 25 direct (if and a big if , Disney keeps grandfathering in old contracts) .and also add all my kid to the 25 contract will we all have the benefits of the blue card till the end of contract?
